I absolutely agree with the comments about not diagnosing yourself. HOWEVER, if you do suspect that you've been struggling with ADHD symptoms, it would be a very good idea to make an appointment with a doctor or psychiatrist WITH EXPERIENCE in ADHD diagnosis. Deciding you have ADHD without pursuing a professional diagnosis and treatment/management options that can help you manage your symptoms amounts to... cool! Now I have something I can use as an excuse for everything 😃! Not trying to sound like a jerk, but those of us who have been diagnosed, are working on managing out symptoms and who've struggled with this for most of our lives, see ADHD used almost as a joking excuse all the time and it's infuriating. People who do that make it much harder for us to be taken seriously... even by some of our doctors.
Same. I read alot and im pretty fast, i found the bold letters too distracting and broke up the words so instead of taking the whole word in as one and reading it faster my pattern revognition focused too much on the bolded letters and made it harder for me to take in the whole word.

I dont care, for accecability maybe this should become more of a standard in webdesign, i will definitly be asking my clients if they are willing to use one of thse fonts and maybe try to make a few of them myself when im up to it. But the ability to read it was soooo much easier on the second and the graphics of looking perfect be screwed!
Huh. I just complained to developers of an app that started doing something that looks like this. Many years ago was a graphic designer so it’s “offensive” to my eye … at first now I barely notice. And 🤔 am I reading the articles through now? To the lab! [Batman TV theme plays]

Thank you for explaining in concise, clear terms how this works. I’ve always had trouble staying focused when reading because my eyes jump around the page. I always thought that this was because I have a lazy eye (which means one eye does it’s own thing sometimes), but in recent years, as I’ve been navigating and facing up to my ADHD-like symptoms, I’ve started to connect this reading issue with my distractibility. I’ve heard about bionic reading, but I didn’t really understand why it worked. And I guess it was just really important for me to understand that, so thank you.

That was actually much better! I had to keep going back over the first paragraph cause I kept reading the words wrong but with the bold bits I was able to fully comprehend the words I was reading. This is great!

Because for those without ADHD, words may be perceived in a different way. For instance, I don't 'read' each individual word like I did when I first learned to read. Instead, I recognise the overall 'shape' of a word, so I can take in multiple at a time. Pattern recognition is what allows me to read faster. That only comes from familiarity with how words are typically written. I read her second piece more slowly because i actually had to read each word. I think the better thing to do is present options. There's no reason why someone with ADHD should have to read the way I read and vice versa- it should be a setting to toggle on and off like font size.

I am shooketh 🤣 But, for real, I've always struggled with reading and reading comprehension. The first was my normal in that it felt jilted and choppy to read, which I'm used to. What I'm not used to is how my eyes glided over the second passage like butter. It makes me sad because I enjoy reading but I'm always discouraging myself from doing it because of how "uncomfortable" it feels, and this makes me wonder what it would have been like growing up with something like this.
I read the first one faster, but I don't have any diagnoses and I'm a fast reader anyway. I do wonder if this helps with dyslexia (my youngest has ADHD and dyslexia).

I made it further into the first one, but when I think about it I read almost as much of the second paragraph even after taking a moment to be startled by the way the text was adjusted. Second way actually helped a lot

I still had my little pauses I often do but the second one made reading much easier. Pauses were less frequent.

freaking hell that second one didn't mess with my dyslexia or adhd as much. a little easier to get to the next word.
I was reading so fast on the second one the voice in my head couldn't keep up yet somehow still knew all the words, it was like audio lagging on a video
The second one was so much more pleasing for my brain.
I swear I was readying slower than my grandma in the first one and in the second one I www zooming through it

The first felt like more tension in my mind. The second flowed like water!
Ngl I rushed through the 1st one and had to re-read it like 3 times and still can't get it, that 2nd one is amazing
As a teen girl with adhd and slight autism and severe anxiety that did not make it faster the bolder font just made me look at the bigger font and not the rest of the words and in turn made me read the first one faster than the second one love you though olivia ❤❤
