    Great content man, thank you! I'm a 4.0+ player who has been playing for 3 years and I get frustrated that the bulk of instructional content is aimed at beginners and lower level players. I'm trying to get to 5.0 right now, and your vids are much more nuanced and contain advanced material and I appreciate it.

    • @thatpickleballguy
      @thatpickleballguy  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Thank you!
      The truth is, the most viewed content tends to be the stuff for beginners. That's why so much content is aimed that way.
      doing my best to aim content at both. Bc truthfully, I get more pumped to teach the higher level stuff. What would be some content you haven't seen you'd be interested to learn more about to help you keep moving up?

      Thanks- fresh in my mind from my advanced round robin last night is drive and crash.
      One of the guys in my 4.0+ group is a former all state tennis doubles guy. He crashes often on the heels of his own or his partner’s drive.
      Hitting behind him isn’t always easy because of the path he takes to the net, and also these drives are often dipping below net level. Hitting to the far sideline works sometimes, but he’s quick and covers almost the whole net.
      I want to learn to diffuse this strategy and I also want to learn to execute the drive and crash for myself.
      I have no tennis background, I’m just an athletic guy. I can cover the court and get a lot of balls, I’ve just never learned to poach. Just figuring it out.

    Mighty fine job. Not just how, but when and particularly why. It's great to know the how but doing it right at the wrong time leads to trouble. Plus, it's easier to "practice" in my head away from the court. Now if I can quit dreaming about PB tactics and get some sleep I may have the energy to play. Thanks again.

    This is a really good vid, please more like this. I'm fairly new, but feel I've got a good handle on hitting shots. Knowing where to hit and when is going to be one of the important things to step up from there, and this sort of content is a lot less well covered on youtube. I feel above 4.0 you can't rely on just hitting decent shots and waiting for your opponent to make an error any more, so really good to learn tactics for actually generating winning positions in rallies.

    Thank you for the quality. - depending on the opening of the exchange in dinking - unattackable, look to use topspin dinks and keep the speed up as close to dink movement as possible...leaning toward JDub, tip down because that is part of the flick. On Right straight from right knee to their left knee most direct route and same as flick to corner. - moving to the left court if I am on right looking to hit angle into cross court defenders left hip or in that alley where they have to reach behind them. - ON the left backhand directly into body for straightest path OR angle behind person on right. The best thing I have done is go towards Eastern with grip from extreme Continental to facilitate the windshield wiper. - that's me I know I don't know, but you most certainly do. Thank you

      And a dead ball is just a soft, high ish dink. How do you get one, either they just hit one to you or you create it by hitting a more aggressive dink to them.

    I'd love a series of videos targeted at moving from 4-4.5+. I'm prob. like a lot. of players that got to 4.0 pretty fast but are finding getting to high level of play a much slower process that needs specific drills and skills. e.g, this video is one of these points. better court movement, better strategy, attacking dinks, handing pace/speed, putting constant pressure on opponents, etc etc. lots of good stuff.

    Love your content! I’d love to see an in depth tutorial on lobbing at 4.0ish level. I know it’s got some good potential and is often written off as “lame” or “bad” but I believe there’s situations which warrant it’s use and put your opponents in a disadvantage state, which is largely what pickleball is all about.
    Some things that come to mind would be where to lob from and to on the court, such as over a certain opponents non dominant side, defensive lobs, putting it on their backhand, forcing opponents to switch, how to respond to lobbing as the defensive player(s), and what to do if you expect a lob. Also just theory on the 1 up 1 back and advantage/disadvantage states could be cool.
    I know lobbing isn’t cool, but it definitely seems underrated at mid and even high level play.

    Agreed it depends on who you're playing. Surprise is great for lower (and some upper), but surprise down the line will most times get it shoved down my throat. Still working on knowing when, normally just a higher bounce, delay and topspin to space gets it done.

    • @thatpickleballguy

      Oo good question. The principle definitely applies.
      paddle tip (near) down. Short swing. Think spin over power.

    Kyle - Where are the speed-up targets on the left side? I'm 5.0 player - and looking to create some more offensive on the left side. I was thinking of running around my backhand Thomas Wilson style - or learning to roll a two-handed ball. Any recommendations on top pros to watch who speed up off the left?

    • @thatpickleballguy
      @thatpickleballguy  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Yeah good question. I'm currently working on a two handed backhand. I find going up the line is a good target there, but of course targets change depending on what you did previously, how you set up the point, who you're playing, etc.
      Also, I like to flick out of the air with my one handed backhand. Agaiin, multiple targets. I like down the line bc you can catch people in the chicken wing.
      I also like to run around my backhand dink and get to a forehand to hit a more aggressive top spin dink to potentially earn a dead dink in the middle, then targets could be to attack cross at the left side player, middle because im in front of the ball. Maybe a lob over either player.
      Some thoughts, hope this helps :)

    • @thatpickleballguy
      @thatpickleballguy  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Here’s the paddle I use. It’s the “power air” www.selkirk.com/products/vanguard-air-s2?variant=40179483344998
      Note, I specifically use the “prestige color.” I haven’t run a test on this, but I think it has a little more spin than the other power airs. :)
      If you’re looking for a less expensive option, I’d go with this one - www.selkirk.com/products/slk-halo?variant=39964829188198
      And, I prefer the “power” version. It still has very good touch, in my opinion, but has a little extra pop :)
      If you go with either of these use my code, “ADV-thatpickleballguy” and you’ll get a digital gift card toward a future purchase.

    It's so true what he said about the red zone balls that people say you shouldn't speed up on. It depends on the quality of your speed up and the ability of your opponent's hands. If they have less than optimal hands / reflexes. I'm going to speed up much more and in more various levels of the dink rally, especially if I have a good speed up. You need to access your opponent and your ability.

As a presenter not so much... If you want to become better at delivery of the material try to make less points, but make them clearer.
