- Well. I heard enough about this concert that I just had to see it for myself... and here we are. What a gorgeous, heartfelt, and pure performance. Seeing them embrace each other like old friends/bookends just makes my soul flutter. This is what it's all about. Right here. Thank you for introducing me to these fantastic men.

What Simon & Garfunkel track are we doing next? Let me know! I’m down.
I'd like Simon's 'Hearts and Bones.' but I think you might like 'The Boy in the Bubble.'
Seeing them together later in life warms the heart 💜 rock-n-roll royalty!
More greatness - El condor pasa
You can't beat The Sound of Silence or Bridge Over Troubled Water, but The Boxer kind of pairs with Scarborough Fair for me. America and I Am A Rock are also favorites.
"The Dangling Conversation" is a song by American music duo Simon & Garfunkel, released in September 1966 as the second single from the duo's third studio. It's a still life watercolor
Of a now-late afternoon
As the sun shines through the curtain lace
And shadows wash the room
Please Play “ Homeward Bound”👍🏻❤️
Wow, really emotional for those of us That have grown old with them. God, how I miss those years.
i can only imagine how it feels to hear them in 69 then in 2009. how EVERYTHINNG changed in those 50 years. crazy.
I remember when the Bridge Over Troubled Waters album was released - one hit after another. Everybody I knew just loved it.
1980 concert in Central Park. They had broken up, the got together for a publice concert in the park. Hundreds of thousands attended. Garfunel does a solo rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water, that is one of the best signing performance
i was going back and forth with doing that or this and i went with this one. i guess i know what i'm doing next :)
I saw them on that tour in Minneapolis. Amazing.
@@L33Reactsplease do the Concert in Central Park. Art’s soaring voice is like nothing you’ve ever heard. Pretty please. :)
It was actually 1981. September 19 1981 exactly. I was there with one of my brothers and a friend. I had just gotten out of the Navy on July 31 1981 and went to this concert a little over a month later.
Yes as I wrote in a comment earlier, I absolutely agree.
Legends. If you haven't listened to Cecilia yet give it a try.
Paul stepping back and letting art finish the song and clapping at the end shows true love between them
68 years old and still sounding great
Bridge is a great song. When Paul sings it it's the best thing on earth. When Art sings it it's the best thing in heaven.
Their Central Park Concert 1981 is great. I think that is Garfunkel's best version of Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
How lucky we were to grow up in the decade with the best music!
“The Boxer” is my favorite Simon & Garfunkel song.
This goes to show that great music never ages
They were 68 then, & still have it. They will be 83 at the end of this year.
I like “The Only Living Boy in New York.” It gets so overlooked, that a few years ago, when someone requested it at a concert, Paul Simon thanked them because he said that he had literally forgotten all about that song. I would also recommend Simon’s solo song “The Obvious Child.” I think it’s from 1990, and I would say that the lyrics are as strong and poetic as anything he’s ever written. And the song is pretty catchy, too. And, of course, the entire Graceland album.
I would have gone back to the Central Park concert 30 years earlier. When they were younger. Art’s solo hit on Bridge Over Troubled Waters was an absolute killer.
Love when I hear ‘daddy’ and she gets a kiss. Thats what it all about and then still pull off the review. And in the background. ‘In search of the lost chord’. Wow Lee!
I saw these guys in 1984 my very first concert
Oh I remember this event. Oh lordy I think tears are dropping. I was in high school when they were in their heyday together. We had a very cool chorus teacher (❤musicians) and we sang some of Simon & Garfunkel songs in concert. Of course in harmony. I was soprano, my sister was alto. We always sing when were together still.
Only Living Boy in New York is a must. Paul's lead vocal is one of his best.
I've heard these Simon & Garfunkel songs many hundreds of times, yet the lyrics continue to blow me away, every time. And the same with the beautiful harmonies. Like with the harmonies of CSN, the voices of Paul and Art just fit perfectly together. During the 1960s, the three most important songwriters were The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and Bob Dylan, (along with so many other great singer/writers). The Beatles and S&G absolutely dominated pop-radio, hit after hit, with increasingly mature songwriting. While Dylan didn't have comparable top-40 success, his influence on songwriting's evolution was #1.
I would also include Joni Mitchell.
@@deechatterton5828Couldn’t agree with you more about Joni, but while she released an album or two in the 60’s, she didn’t hit her prime until the 70’s. She may be the greatest lyricist ever though, and her melodies & arrangements were both unique and top notch.
Beautiful performance, I had not seen this video. The 1982 Central Park Reunion was also an amazing moment in music. Central Park had perfect weather, a great mood in the crowd, and I was lucky to be there with a few close friends, and all those thousands of awe-struck strangers. At the time, I knew the S&G reunion was a big deal, but in retrospect it seems even more significant. It's funny how a casual decision can lead to one experiencing, or missing, such an important event!
i will be doing something from that one next week! I can't wait! i bet it was awe inspiring! :D
@@L33Reacts That will be great L33. So many years ago,,,,, the song I remember most from Central Park is (of course) "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". That song is such a classic. But there were many other great moments too. As I recall, they each did some music from their individual solo work as well. Anyone who has seen the live footage recently, they might be able to give you more specific recommendations from that night.
These guys are legends
absolutely are... i love it!
These old guys still got it. Damn.
Agree Lee. It's happiness to see them together after so much history.
P.S. "Daddy" is the sweetest sound you will ever hear.
As long as it’s not followed I spilled chocolate milk on the sheets again 😳😅😂😂
And yes it is. I loved seeing them together again… it’s beautiful.
Paul Simon once ranked the best songwriters of all time. At the top he put Cole Porter, George Gershwin, McCartney. And in the level right after that he placed Lennon and Dylan and himself.
i mean, at least he knows what he's got! he really is one of the best in my eyes. but my eyes are fresh, so i might have missed stuff lol
Wow, Artie sounding like *that* at nearly 80 is incredible!
Ohhhh, you haven't seen the one live from Central Park from the late 60s (I think it was). You need to see that one for Bridge. His vocals are otherworldy.
i was flip flopping on that one or this one and i went with this one lol. so maybe i will do that central park one next.
@@L33Reacts That one makes people cry, not lying. His vocals are so just like his lungs are made of clouds or something.
He was actually about a week before his 68th birthday at the time of this 2009 concert.
They were 68 here. The concert in Central Park was 1981 & they were 1 & 2 months from turning 40.
@@marianfoley5821 my years were off. still a huge gap.
Nothing wrong with growing up in Maryland Lee. I had a memorable childhood in Pikesville 🤗
Art Garfunkel does a wonderful cover of Miss You Nights. Heartbreaking and gorgeous vocal. Off of his Fate for Breakfast album.👍🎶
Paul's 1989 album "Rhythm of the Saints" was inspired by Brazilian music traditions. "The Obvious Child" was the lead single and has some of the most amazing percussion I've ever heard. Nice video too.
I grew up in the 60's and listened intently to S&G on radio or LP. I regard Paul Simon as one of the two best songwriters of the 60's along with Jimmy Webb. Their music and recordings are immortal.
I agree James. ESPECIALLY on the jimmy Webb part. That man was prolific.
I believe that's Larry Knechtel on piano. He played on the original recording. Knechtel was one of the busiest session musicians of all time. Played with everyone.
those wrecking crew dudes were EVERYWHERE lol
Another folk pop duet that kept us sane in the late sixties and early seventies turbulent times over Viet Nam and women’s rights. We had such magical moments in music.
Art Garfunkel talks about Paul Simon, reads the poem "The Funeral," May 12, 2019
Love Simon & Garfunkel. Their music was perfect for my college years. In the late 60s, early 70s, especially being from the Northeast. I relate so much to the movie. The graduate and that outrageously awesome soundtrack done by Simon and Gotham. But when I have to consider separating these 2 guys, it is Paul that is unbelievably great in all facets and especially his writing. Art has the voice and Paul has the talent. And this song the boxer pretty much establishes everything I just said.
L33 , you have to think about the many , many times these tunes came out of that magic radio , all those people going through all those experiences listening for healing effect
I❤NYC!
Capital of the World!
Thanks L33, for being one of the few CZcamsrs to use this live version of "Bridge." Although Art sounds good in Central Park's version, Paul doesn't sing one note of it. The true magic of "Bridge" is their vocals melding on the "sail on silver girl" verse.... any rendition that omits Paul is missing the boat.
Seemed like some beautiful lily girl was missing her Daddy lol. So adorable. The Boxer is my favourite song
You MUST listen to Simon and Garfunkels "Keep the Customer Satisfied" in the Bridge Over Troubled Water album. Rocking with HORNS
Simon and Garfunkel went to my High School, Forest Hills High School. They performed back then as Tom and Jerry
Your next Simon & Garfunkel reaction should be “Bookends intro/Save the Life of my Child”, from the Bookends album!!!!!
you're right, I haven't done that part of bookends yet. thank you for the suggestion!
"How terribly strange to be 70" rang so true back then. For the fortunate, it's no longer hypothetical. ; )
Paul is a genius for sure, a poet of the highest ranking. But the two of them combined are transcendental. They don't make m like that anymore. Kids these days don't know what they're missing. Before firing the grumpy old man thing, I was born after they split up.
studio version of the boxer is amazing
yeah it is. i love that song so much.
These performances live are great but the studio versions are truly epic.. the boxer has incredible orchestration at the end , very different from this live version ..
Keep The Customer Satisfied, Only Living Boy in New York are just a few that are on my top list...It's so hard to just choose 1. S & G BOTW was the very first album I ever owned ..I was about 9 or 10...that's 46 years a fan! Love them so much❤
I love your reactions & song choices… your daughter coming in was adorable.
Very nice never saw this before
i'm glad you enjoyed, my friend.
I saw them on the Friends tour and it was so good. When Art sang Bridge the place was quiet and his voice just soared over the audience. They had the Everly Brothers as their mid-break act ( they were big fans of the Everly Brothers when they were just starting out). The Brothers sang a couple of hit then Art and Paul joined them for a song which was a great treat. Concert was worth every penny.
I beg of you. JOAN BAEZ DOES A BEAUTIFUL RENDATIONOF THIS
It's really sad these two couldn't get along better.
You should listen to Paul's solo song 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. He even mentions your first name in it
Pure class
It was great hearing you say stuff about missing New York City. I lived in Greenwich village a few blocks away from the Fillmore. East for 3 years, from 1969 to 1972. And oh man, can I relate to what you're saying about missing that part of your life.
This particular Hall of Fame concert was a who jams with who show. Ray Davies of the Kinks jammed with Metallica, Mick Jagger sang with The Black Eyed Peas and so on. Too many great combinations to list. Look up the show! You will want to do plenty of reactions from this show!!!👍☮️😎
Not since CSN and the Mammas and Papas have voices complimented each others
omg-your daughter is adorable!
pretty good for two kids from Forest Hills, Queens, New York
not too shabby...
Two of my favourite songs from “Bookends” that I would love to see your reaction to are Save the Life of my Child and Fakin’ it-these are two very underrated songs from that amazing album from Simon and Garfunkel !
Amazing music. Amazing voices!
Beautiful ❤
Love Garfinkles voice but Paul Simon is a true musical genius.
heaven
absolutely is. i love it :)
If you haven't already listened to the studio version of 'The Boxer' by them, (the former Tom&Jerry! 😳 yep, it's true, happily it didn't stick) you definitely should. Enjoy!
How about 'Hazy Shade of Winter', maybe the Bangles' version too, though not on the same video, p'raps a Bangles sampler?
They sound incredible still. Thanks for this. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Btw, didja know Tony Levin played with Paul for years? Shouldn't be such a surprise, I guess, I myself grew in my appreciation of and respect for Tony over decades since finding out who he is/was.
😊🤙🏼🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
need to do 59th street bridge song (feeling groovy) and Cecilia
i'm for sure doing cecilia next. i didn't know about the first one. ill add it to the list.
Art Garfunkel and his son cover The Everly Brothers live in Napa, May 12, 2019 (4K) youtube
From Art's solo career, check out "All I Know".
I think you should do ‘I am a rock’. I think you’d really like it.
Paul did some acting. He’s in ‘Annie Hall’ by Woodie Allen. It won best picture that year.
Maybe do The Only Living Boy In New York next?
i've got a couple other suggestions for that one too. i'll check it out!
Thanks for this , I’ve never seen this before . It was beautiful ❤
“Old Friends”
Thanks Lee, you make me happy!! ❤😊
I’m glad I could help :)
Awesome video but that Only Living Boy in New York is going to go hard
Wow .. that was beautiful
absolutely gorgeous. and it means so much more in 09 then 69 when you've grown 50 years... crazy to me
Never been to NYC, though I did get to visit friends in Buffalo on my one transatlantic trip (the chances of that ever happening again are pretty much zero unfortunately). Like the Beatles, S&G were simply in the air when I was growing up, in a way that nothing is today, not even Taylor Swift. I aappreciate how lucky I am to have lived through this specific span of time.
Looking forward to this, but not wild about using live stuff, like a central spark show. Billboards #1 album for 1970 would be a better choice, using the studio cuts. Especially to capture the amazing drum sound in the Boxer, created in front of an open elevator shaft.
i've already done the studio cut of both. they are in the S&G playlist.
S&G. Always
Always!!
I dig a theremin.
Try The Only Living Boy In New York next.
i've heard good things about that one. i will keep that in mind for the next one, thank you!
Paul and Artie's original group name was "Tom and Jerry"
lol that's great. i'm glad they went with their names. it fit perfectly.
Water
Definitely the version from Cental Park 1981 much superior.
Pianist Michael Omartion (?). Great produce. No videos but check Mike Finnigan's BLACK AND WHITE. Not a bad track
I see that you had a little fairy princess visitor.
Whoa Lee I've been awaitin for The Boxer from you. I think its their best song even beating The Sounds Of Silence or Homeward Bound. Whatta you think? 😹
i've already done it! a couple months ago lol its in my s&g playlist
No I meant what did ya think of the Boxer's placement? Though I'm watching you now ! 😹
Yes they were great live particularly that second song and I liked the unusual backing on the first but still the studio version of The Boxer is tops ! Ta ! 😹
If you like poetry, check out "Kathy's Song".
Ok, I admit this was really good....ignore me!
*Water, not Waters
I kind of wish you'd try and avoid 'live' tracks.....in my experience they're poorer compared to the studio versions.
Sadly, this is definitely auto tuned in post. I hate the trend of doing this, I’d much rather hear their aged voices - bum notes and all.
