- Other than the Market area and High St, Chesterfield would be dead. Even Marks and Spencer has moved out of the town centre. Looks like Chesterfield is being reset like everywhere else. It has some beautiful old Tudor buildings.
From Notts i have been visiting Chesterfield since the 80s ,it is a very nice place . Love the peak district .was in chesterfield last year ,spoke to a few folk and they say that a lot of southerners are coming up to buy properties . So you have London wages to northern property prices .This is happening all over the northern part of the country .Newark has this problem on a big scale .
Some one from Northants told me that, they can't afford to live in the South and are coming North.
Nice to know what surrounding towns look like , not been to chesterfield for over 20 years , interesting xxx
Like shells of their past Linda 🥰
I worked in Chesterfield in the 1980's, lived in Matlock.
I've not been to Chesterfield for some years Tim but from your video it still looks fairly busy. There used to be a Littlewoods near the market, like the one on Attercliffe but that was many years ago😂
Busy on a Thursday Myra, but I am told empty the rest of the week by an enforcement officer. Saturday Market is now poor.
I walked along the canal from Eckington earlier this year, I saw those new houses going up, when you come off the canal, onto the road, just past the probation office on your left, is the original court building all derelict and vandalised, just abandoned. Their is a mock Tudor building in the centre called the Victoria center, I used to go to a good cafe upstairs called Roy's cafe, you had to walk through a bed shop to get to it, you couldn't get a seat on market days, absolutely heaving. Then downstairs was a fabric shop and food scoop shop.
Its getting the WEF treatment Richard, once they start on the canal basin they will ruin it.
@@timawells that's the river Rother Tim. The canal project hasn't moved since 2010, there is a brand new basin at Staverley, built over ten years ago, no boats at all in it, the problem is it doesn't join the main canal network. It's been built over Killarmarsh end. They did rebuild a section at Renishaw, it's at the back of the new houses, but then abandoned it. At least with South Yorkshire Navigation, it links to the rest of the network.
@@richardburns5925 I noticed less than 5 canal boats on the Chesterfield section of the canal basin Richard. Supposed to be £40 million to close the gap, but they have no real plan for it.
@@timawells they've craned the boats into it for show Tim. The Killarmarsh section is the problem, they built all over it in the 70s, I've been there and seen the way it went, it's the cuckoo way walking trail. I think it's navigable from the Trent to about Kiveton, I'm not sure, I'm going to go and have a look Tim, you would think with modern machinery diggers etc, they would have restored it all by now, they would have down south Tim 👍
@@richardburns5925 West Stockwith to Kiveton Park is done. I parked at Killamarsh, as its a nightmare from Kiveton to there. The Worksop to Kiveton got done very quickly in 2000.
the best beef pie dinner is served in a pub just down from the market.
Chesterfield isn't part of Sheffield City Region/SYMCA and the mayor has no authority there. DCC scuppered that. We'll fall under the East Midland Combined Authority and its mayor.
Regardless, Chesterfield has been grim for a long long time. Hopefully I can afford to move once I've graduated.
Chesterfield has SY mayoral signs and has received a lot of money from SY mayoral.
We're non-constituent members, and a part of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership. So we work in partnership with Sheffield (which would explain the signs) but not as part of Sheffield. We don't get a vote in the Mayoral elections for Sheffield but will do for the East Midlands in May. DCC kicked up a stink when CBC talked about going in with Sheffield and there's no way they'd let us leave
I don't agree with city regions and I am a Sheffielder. @@stephenmarriott369
Not and never will be any part of Sheffield... city region or other. By the way, the river you couldn't name is the Rother.
So why did the Sheffield city region pay for the Northern Gateway? Like I am saying I am warning people about the tentacles of the city region, we don't even want the Sheffield city region in Sheffield. Chesterfield is the worse place I have ever visited for surveillance cameras.
WEF ,you will own nothing and be happy , pure madness .crazy times are slowly slipping in.
Did I meet you on Saturday Thomas?
@@timawells no but i will be going back there in a couple of weeks when the gets a bit fairer .thanks for videos .Very interesting
What a dreary looking place.
You mean the lack of people?
