This is one of the rare occasions the US are the underdog and its a feel good story they led, even though I'm Australian.. it's absolutely hilarious that they didn't even bother changing the college gridiron set up or even their badging, this is a fascinating tiny passage in the history of rugby league

Too many sports in the USA already like Gridiron, Basketball, Baseball, Ice Hockey & Lacrosse which are all more popular than let’s say Soccer. Rugby League has to compete with Rugby Union as well all while Rugby in general has to compete with Gridiron. Union seems to have the upper hand in the US while League seems more popular in Canada and were attracting up to 18k while in the League 1 & Championship until Covid ruined everything for Toronto the year they qualified. Who knows where North American RL would be today but Rugby in general will always behind Soccer in North America and doesn’t stand a chance against Gridiron. It’s pretty much the equivalent of trying to make a popular Gridiron League on Australia. It doesn’t stand a chance against Rugby & Australian Football.
