@@nguyeninfloridalinhchualua3429 I am very very early in the planning phase of a future tank build. I am to find the best external overflow for my situation. I want the tank close to the wall, so I would like to cut a hole in the drywall behind the tank and have the external box fit between the studs. 12"-14" wide external is what I am looking for.
I've watched a ton of these videos, and noticed every single one it chips. I finally went ahead and did it myself and sure enough it chipped a little. I'm thinking if you're uncomfortable with chips being on the inside drill from the inside out. Where you start drilling will always be smoother.
That's one good thing about YT. If you searching for something long enough it will suggest other videos. I hope it will help. I met Salome and another guy with Eshopps at the convention. They were really nice.
Hey, I think you put the second set of rubber nitrile washers in the wrong place, they need to be between the tank and the external box. Seems like a fun project. If you ever have a lot of leaks this is why. I have the eshops small and had this issue the way you put them on.
Can you measure the distance between the bulkheads on the template. I recently got a used tank and have a eshopps L overflow and the holes are to far apart. Thank you for your time.
So how do you like this overflow? I have bought one and Plan on installing it on my 90 gallon in a few months. Do you have pictures of how it looks with the tank set up? Great video thank you
IMHO you need to position the holes based on the desired height of the internal wier box. You set the hole position based on the top of the external box butted up to the bottom of the frame (with the box lid on), that it why the inside box was higher then you wanted. You Got Lucky! Depending on the tank Mfg your inside box may not have fit at all. Check all parts position BEFORE you drill.
this is really close to what i'm doing. I have an aqueon 75g tank i'm going to drill, but i'm going to be using the prodigy M overflow instead of the prodigy L.
@@nguyeninfloridalinhchualua3429 - i'd have filtered fresh water slowly trickling in at a rate of between 2 and three gallons per day. Why wouldn't it work? I don't have sump. The overflow would be piped to drain. So constant fresh water very slowly displacing dirty water. I also have triple the filtration i need already in an Oase biomaster filter
@@etyrnal I think that might be a waste of water. If you do a 25% water change that would be about 15gal at one time the water quality would be better.
They give you two gaskets. One gasket goes against the glass and the other against the plastic. Make sure the smooth side or the gasket is towards the flat surface of the glass and the return. Hope that helps.
Yeah. I didn't know the wire was so thin on that model!! I got a figi cube overflow but I am worried because it didn't quite install right and the other box hits the black trim and the wire ended up being g too low so I'm thinking I may just buy a different overflow and hope it fits better.
I got mine from Marineland. You have to check the label. It will say "do not drill" on the bottom if you can't. You can also do tests that is on YT. Hope that helps.
Quick fix. Flip the template upside down. Drill the holes Cut the plastic rim (using the template as a line guide. Install the over flow and paint the back black.
@@veteranshomerepairsandmain4101 I understand your idea would work but altering the bracing on a run of the mill aquarium is a bad idea. The bracing is there to keep the glass from bowing any alterations to it may cause the aquarium to fail. Although I have never drilled an aquarium I have had to drill off center holes in plenty of large sheets of various materials such as steel wood acrylic and tiles. You need to take your time and measure from various points to find the center of your hole mark it up and drill. Measure once and toss it or measure twice and cut once. I should also add to this when beginning to drill using a diamond core bit you want to start out at a slight angle do that all around wobble it in a circular motion no pressure but firm grip. This will give you a nice smooth cut on both sides.
Make sure the rubber ring is on the right way. It does not leak at all. I tighten with my hands then used a wrench to give it a slight turn. It works perfectly. Very happy with the set up.

First time I’ve actually seen a video of someone doing this install from start to finish. Helps a lot!
Thanks!
I am so glad you showed me that an install on a standard rimmed tank is possible. Great video. Just what I was looking for
How did your tank turned out?

Thanks for sharing! This is EXACTLY what I will be doing for my next build this summer. Same tank, same overflow!

Watched this a while back, had to come back , subscribe & say I think you've convinced me to give it a try!
Yes a clamp or painters tape works great also for holding it in place!
Parabéns pelo vídeo, ótima montagem. Você consegue mandar um overflow desse para o Brasil?
Excellent job and video.
Thanks, it was fun walking around and talking with vendors.
thanks, I'm try this soon
God bless you.may friend thanks you... beautiful.arragement
This box was available in Vietnam. U can take it less than 40$. Same Quality Product. A wonderful price!
Personally I drill from the inside out, better seal if it chips and no worry of the cut out chipping tank
I would be hesitant because you want to make sure the cut is straight down on the glass. The 75g is not that wide.
Should have taped the inside to prevent chipping
This is a aqueon 75 gallon?

No I don't see the water line. You can adjust the level a little bit.

They give you two gaskets. One gasket goes against the glass and the other against the plastic. Make sure the smooth side or the gasket is towards the flat surface of the glass and the return. Hope that helps.
The ridges on the rubber gaskets always go on the glass, just incase there are any little chips, the ridges will cover them.

It's never advisable to alter aquarium bracing in anyway.
