    "From your blog Sir"
    There was in Jajja, Omar said, a mansion built by Nawab Sir Sadiq Mohammed Khan Abbasi V. As well as that, Jajja was also the birthplace of Birbal, one of the Nine Jewels that adorned the court of Akbar the Great. He wasn’t certain however whether or not there was a 16th century monument to commemorate the coming into this world of that remarkable Birbal. This he left to me to ascertain. And so it was that my friend Raheal Siddiqui packed me off from Bahawalpur. I picked up a guide in Khanpur and we drove out along the old railway line to Chachran.

    First impressions, immediately takes you back to the 1908 period or what my idea is of the fashions at that time - the stained glass doors the floor tiles (could also be from a 1970’s style psychedelic kitchen floor tile motif) all that heritage well on the way to disrepair and dust

    Where was the Motor Khana? I recall the cars were sold in 2003,I worked on one of them a 1924 Rolls Royce which was then bought by Hashwani of PC and was seen in the lobby of Lahore Pearl Continental.

    Another enjoyable episode with excellent narration as always. And your slanting references regarding Lahori Foundries is always sooo funny😂😂😂 you are right whenever you mention this or as in the previous episodes with the Steel-section truss bridges, which although hilarious is quite unfortunate.
    What is more unfortunate that these buildings could be still converted to Luxury Guest-Houses and earn revenue are being wasted and will eventually turn into rubble.
    Your efforts to highlight these and other areas of Pakistan with tourist potential is laudable. Keep up the good work, gentleman.

      Thank you, Shah sahib. As Donovan sang many years ago, "I stand here singing to the flowers, so very few people really know."

    Lovely episode. Sir one unrelated question. Are people from the erstwhile Bahawalpur region considered culturally punjabi , Rajasthani or they form a continuum between the two regions ?

    • @salmanrashid8880
      @salmanrashid8880 Před rokem +1

      Not even a continuum. They proudly call themselves "Reyasti" from reyasat or State. The State being Bahawalpur. They speak Seraiki from Multan on down south to Rahim Yar Khan where it begins to peter out giving way to Sindhi.

    Bahawalpur State helped Pakistan with trillions, such a shame that their heritage and mansions are in such deplorable condition. The minister of heritage must be held responsible.
