He was allowed to rehydrate in those fights. In this fight he couldn't put the weight back on. Fighters don't normally fight at the weight they weigh in on at the weigh ins the day before. That's why it's called "rehydrate". They dehydrate themselves to make weight and put rehydrate the following day to compete. In this fight he wasn't allowed to do that. It's not excuses. It was a business tactic from Gervonta's side.

There was this contract that represents the challenge that both men agreed to. They signed it. They showed up in great shape, and rehydrated up to the limit for every weight advantage they could take, but were both held to the same rehydration level. There was more time to hydrate some more after the rehydration weigh in morning of the fight. How much more weight over 10 lbs did Ryan need to gain in 24 hours, anyway?!? Rehydration limits of this kind are standard conditions for the IBF. Both fighters exhibited normal strength and stamina in the ring. The energy being demonstrated was not weight drain BS. Its extremely butt hurt to keep with the weight drain story after Tank demonstrated more advanced skills….plain and simple. Extra pounds are not going to change the outcome, after watching that fight.
Garcia has a long way to go to match up at Davis’s level. I commend Garcia for making weight like a professional, and giving a good fight…but he reached too high, no surprise, but got a great payday and did something good for the sport. Just take your loss like a man, and make a fight with Haney/Lomo winner. That will do more for protecting your brand in the wake of your loss than this weight drain narrative (this excuse playing out in the media was very predictable).

No excuses. Ryan gave a good showing of himself last night, he did his best, but Tank is exceptional in talent and punching power.. Ryan was not weak last night, he was obviously very strong for his weight and very fast with his hands, but he underestimated Tank's overall skills and his ability to hit him and hurt him. The fight didn't go into the late rounds so fatigue was obviously not a problem. Ryan did not give up after the liver punch, his body shut down and he was unable to function, people need to learn more about what a liver punch does to fighters.

The rehydration clause affected Ryan Garcia. The 'a camp' is who does this clause part of their process. Let the boxers be healthy. I fast all the time and it does affect you. Everyone needs food how much more a top elite athlete. Boxing needs to look at this because a boxer can be seriously hurt injured with these rehydration clauses. We did see this Saturday. Ryan Garcia was weak. He did not realize this but as the fight ended. We did see the affect of their process in the sport of boxing. They need to have some integrity and let the athletes box and have health. Ryan Garcia demonstrated power in the ring. His body shut down because no one goes all these days not eating how much more a boxer in a boxing match especially at this level. Boxing needs to look at this. Boxers are not in the sport to be devasted by sacrificing their bodies. Their in the sport of boxing because they love the mental physical ability of the sport of boxing. Well, BOO HOO! I don't feel sorry for Ryan at all. If he wants to weigh at a bigger weight, if he wants to eat more, he needs to stay away from Gervonta's weight class and fight the bigger boys. I LOVE this rehydration clause. It needs to be mandatory for ALL the boxers. Seriously, do you seriously want to see a boxer come in weighing over 30 to 40 pounds more than his opponent? To me, that seems kind of cowardly. The pros need to do it like the amateurs when we were weighing in ONE HOUR before the fight, sometimes less than one hour before the fight. However, I still don't like the fact that Ryan (and Gervonta, if that's what he did) was allowed to go into the ring weighing 146 pounds when they're supposed to weigh 135 pounds. It's supposed to be a lightweight fight, not a welterweight fight. They should have made it mandatory that both boxers weighed in one hour before the fight.
