    Pretty cool that Kicker has their manuals all the way to back then still on the site. In the mean time some companies can't even get specs published for their current products. Guess they have to wait for the cookie cutter to report back... 🍪👨‍🍳

      I figured out why these chinese cookie cutter amps are all rated sopoorly, and why companies don't change them. You see, it cost nothing to add your brand or logo, website etc. They have white labels for that data input. However, to change the box, packaging, manual, etc... you must pay extra fees. Now company A has to charge more than company B with the same amp but lower numbers in the data. All is good so long as you are truthful correct? But wait... once consumers realize you have same amp, charging more. They will just go buy the liars amp anyways cause it is cheaper.

      @@MurderousMindstate right.. If i "made" a amp from China.. They told me 50 watts rms.. I'd send it to someone.. If it put 30watts rms.. I'd call it 20 watts rma.. Even if it's rolling of a assembly line they all are not all the same.

I remember having a JBL that I was running below its rated impedance in bridged mode. Made a shitload of power but man was it inefficient. The headlights would almost go out on bass hits. Made the car look like a disco going down the road. After I got done using it I opened it up and it looked like Chernobyl inside. Just hot melty plastic in the bottom from the transformer bobbin and lots of black resistors and board traces. Amazingly it still worked despite being grilled into oblivion.

    138db SPL at the dash is my guess. You should do at least one test old-school IASCA style with Flashdance! I did a 140 or 142 at the dash (using Flashdance) with my 225 HCCA mono parallel to 6 JL 12w1 in the trunk of my Chevy Corsica "Sports Sedan"🤣. 142 might have been with the 2100 HCCA, or was that a 145 🤔...1995 was a long time ago 😅! Anyhow, just hooked the 225 up to a dual 2ohm Skar 12 wired to one-ohm mono, it's still killing it! Did you ever re-test the 225 with the EQ button pressed like you did with the 2100?

    What do you measure your SPL with?
    Term lab, b&k, audio control???
    In the kick panel(outlaw) or 12" over and 4" up(UASC, DbDrag), Or at the headrest(IASCA SQ)??
    Termlab will do around 135 on the windshield, 137 in the kick.
    140ish on the Audiocontrol at the windshield 144 in the kick.
    B&K will be around 132 on the windshield? 134 in the kick.

    • @ASSOpid
      @ASSOpid Před 3 lety

      @DJ WRAITH If this box hits 140 that's hella cabin gain. I used to run 2 kicker comp 12"s off a Soundstream Ref 300 in HC mode and could hit just about 128dB .

    • @AlexGtheDon
      @AlexGtheDon Před 3 lety

      @DJ WRAITH Bro, I did 133 dB with two MTX Blue Thunder's and a P.P.I. A200 @ 200W Mono in a 5th order bandpass I got the specs from MTX themselves for back in 1995. Half the power, half the drivers, and the ony advantage was my MX-3 Hatch. I say 140-142 SPL with that Behemoth of an enclosure. The only thing that may limit that is the efficiency of the drivers. That could be a factor.

    • @AlexGtheDon
      @AlexGtheDon Před 3 lety

      @DJ WRAITH if I recall, it was 1CF for each of the outer sub boxes (sealed) and 1.75 C.F. For the inner with a 6” by 6.75” port that was converted from round to square. Originally that box was built for my 1989 Nissan Sentra and the port was pushed into the passenger cabin and we cut a square through the rear deck (with a sawzall) and put a speaker grill cover over it so looked almost stock. But when I got the Mazda I removed it from there I added three-quarter inch plexiglass and I used flex-stone paint so that you could see inside. It was sweet.

    Everyone loves to reminisce about back in the day. "JL Audio was better back then" "Kicker was the bomb in the 90s." But the truth is their current amplifiers are more efficient, put out cleaner power when voltage fluctuates, have way more protection circuitry, smaller footprint, and cost WAY less $/watt. It's a cool amp, but a $135 CXA400.1 from today would walk all over it.

    Why were they called “cheater”? Was it just marketing?
    I’ve done research. Essentially cheater amps said they’re rated for X amount of watts but really put out a lot more power than that. Technically you could join a competition and sign up for 0-50 watt section and use your cheater amp to push 1000watts and win.
