Comparing Poshmark Packaging From 5 Sellers | How to Package Poshmark Sales | Poshmark Shipping Tips

  • See how five random sellers packaged the Poshmark item that I ordered from them! When I first began selling on Poshmark, I got the email telling me to "package the sale nicely and include a thank you note." I decided to order a few items to see how others' package. Then that turned into this series on my channel!

    I know it's all about just getting the item you want safely, but I can't lie, I love the experience of receiving a well presented package and personalized thank you card. For me, thats one of the things that sets Poshmark apart from other platforms. And since that's what I like as a buyer, that's what I do as a seller.

    My grandmother tells me that I’m just extra lol because when I wrap the items. I will use wrapping paper then put them in a clear poly bag with a thank you card and sometimes a small free gift. I also put a thank you sticker on the bag as well. I will use the USPS products or I’ll use my poly mailers. I have different ones based on the seasons. For me this is what I like to do because it’s about quality.

    I re-use all my packaging and clearly state that on my profile. I mostly use Amazon boxes and mailers and collect them from my neighbors to give them another life before recycling or the landfill. I hope people are reasonable enough to understand they're paying for the item and not fancy packing materials.

    • @liana2136

      I agree that recycling is best, but I find other ways to do that. For garments I prefer super clean materials. I don't know how my neighbors store their boxes (next to a litter box?) so will pass on containers that might be dirty or have bad odors.

I have also purchased many items and I'm always excited when I receive my package in the mail and when the seller takes the time to wrap the item carefully and include a handwritten note, it makes it that much more special.

    I've pre-made a bunch of origami, and I drop one into packages I send out. I started actively reselling this year. This strategy helped me get more love notes because I think the special touch with the origami prompts them to give some kind of written response, whereas before people would rate and not leave a love note. I know love notes don't matter that much after you get to a certain point, but in the beginning it helps. For the holidays this year, I gifted a postcard with a stamp and left a note explaining, suggesting they use it to reach out to a loved one during this bizarre year. For the rest of packing, I reuse tissue paper and packing materials from my own online orders.

  • @juliewilliams4439

    I have been writing personalized thank you notes, wrapping in tissue paper, adding bubble wrap or air pillows for added protection and putting a thank you sticker on the tissue wrapping. I've gotten good ratings on most things and some of them mention the TY note and packaging, but most don't. I am starting to feel like all of this extra effort really doesn't make much difference with a lot of people. So, once I'm out of notes, I may discontinue that. I think I've received maybe one thank you note on about a dozen purchases I've made.

    Hi Amber, this was a really good and fair way to compare how Poshmark sellers package their sales! I usually send mine in a Priority mail box and in a decorative polymailer with thank you card, however Poshmark isn’t the main way I sell, eBay is, and for eBay I generally include a packing slip with a handwritten note expressing Thanks and pack it carefully. On occasion I have included the item in a decorative polymailer inside the box depending on the communication I have had with the buyer (eg if they mention it is a gift etc...). I just try to be as nice as I can! 😁 I’m glad that you look at these situations with your “Amber Analytic Eyes” , I really enjoy and appreciate that! Cheers, Pat

  • @justanotherjessica
    @justanotherjessica Před 3 lety +2

    I used to do the works: tissue paper tied up with a bow and a thank you card. I completely stopped that. It was so wasteful of my money and time and resulted in so much trash. What I do now is put the item in a large zip lock bag (these are great because they can be reused, I find myself grabbing extras from my stash for all sorts of reasons lol) and then into a box or priority Tyvek envelope. I only use tissue paper now for stuffing shoes and for wrapping shoes or purses that could get damaged if they are allowed to rub against the box or other items in the box.
    I do include a "business card" that says "You are enough, you are so enough, it is unbelievable how enough you are." The card does not have my info on it because I want the buyer to be able to pass it along if they so choose. It's a sentiment meant to make the recipient smile. Most people seem to enjoy how I ship my items, I've had no complaints over the lack of thank you card or tissue paper. I've had plenty of compliments about my card and the zip lock baggies though. ;)

    I honestly hate "thank you" notes. As a seller my hands are nearly arthritic so I don't like to write them, though I will if I had a conversation with the buyer just to maintain the sense of contact. As a buyer I always feel obligated to keep the note which also feels kinda weird because I don't actually know the seller. I just use USPS Priority mailers, a plastic shirt bag or duck brand packaging paper and a thank you sticker. To me nothing says Poshmark more than a Priority box on my porch.

    Thank you notes go straight into recycling and are a total waste IMO. A thank-you sticker conveys the same message and is fine by me though unnecessary. Same with fancy packaging... I seriously don't care. Just send me what I paid for in the condition described in a timely manner. If I can go a step further in my crankiness, I hate free 'gifts'. I am different from all them.
    On clothes, after processing I fold neatly snd put in sealed plastic clear bags. With item number. Then after purchase, I wrap in pretty tissue generally. I tie with a ribbon generally. Then I put pretty thank you stickers on if necessary to hold package together. I add a card with envelope that I don’t write in as a gift. Usually add stickers or another type of gift. I have a card I’ve made up with motivation wording. I write a personal note on back of it. I may add other gifts if I have them and/or if item made me a profit.
    I then wrap them as needed and put in Polly then maybe a box. Most customers have said they prefer poly over box, if it fits in a mailbox. I often buy pretty poly bags. If it’s breakable, I wrap in tons of bubble and Cushing wrap.

    Thanks for doing this video! If the items I sell are machine washable I just wrap in the packing paper and use a thank you sticker. I just find plastic so wasteful because it cannot be recycled. Only if an item could truly get damaged if wet do I put it in a plastic bag. Use the Tyvek USPS mail envelope or one of the Priority boxes. Shoes I wrap individually in packing paper and do make sure I put bubble wrap/air pockets in to protect them. If item is delicate (suede heels for example) I'd put each one separate in a bag in the box w/packing materials. No thank you note. One of my goals in doing reselling is to reduce waste and the packing paper is easy to recycle. I buy on Posh too - I enjoy the card or wrapping paper - for about a second. I just want my item in good condition - beyond that how it is packaged doesn't really influence me to shop again. No preach, just my own personal opinion.

    The chinos look like they were shipped using the original materials from the company they bought them from. I've definitely done that for items that are brand new (retail arbitrage OR items I bought for myself that didn't end up fitting and I was too lazy to return).

    I don’t include thank you notes. All my inventory items are in individual plastic bags for protection. And I ship with pretty poly mailers or a tyvec if it doesn’t fit. I put a pretty “happy mail delivery” sticker on the outside of the package. I will write thank you on the outside of package if they bought several items or bought a high dollar item.

      With a Poshmark label, you can use any priority boxes, including flat rate. I'll be putting out a video within the next week or two about the basics of Poshmark shipping! So definitely check back and then comment on that video if you have questions left.

      True, but I purchased a Columbia jacket recently and it was stuffed so tightly into a reused poly mailer that it was difficult opening without damaging the item. For what the item cost I did expect a bit more care in packaging -

      @@margaretkiser1815 You're completely right, for what anyone pays for a coat a little bit of care should be used, but I wasn't talking about cramming a winter coat into a 6x9 poly mailer
      , but instead, a short sleeve shirt that took up less than half a medium flat rate box.
      Base commercial rate on that box is about $13. whereas tyvek would have been 8$ or less. If you want to use a box plain priority or a regional A box would be about the same. depending on how far it was going.
      Lets go crazy, we're shipping that shirt from Caribou Maine ------ to ------> Lahaina Maui HI (pretty far eh?)
      1 Pound & retail rates for ease (commercial rate would be lower)....
      Priority Medium - $15.05
      Priority tyvek or reg Priority box - $9.60
      Priority Regional A (either size) - $12
      if closer, say, Denver CO ---> San Francisco CA
      $15.05 MFR
      $8.25 Standard PR
      $8.92 Reg A

    • @AmberResells
      @AmberResells  Před 3 lety +1

      Poshmark has a special agreement with the USPS. All buyers pay $7.11 and that covers any package up to 5 pounds. Sellers can use any priority box (flat rate or not). I know it seems impossible from the perspective of someone who has sold on Ebay, but it is true!

  • @readysetsleep
    @readysetsleep Před 3 lety

    This is a bit insane to ship one piece of clothing in a medium flat rate box. Those flat rate boxes only save money, if you are shipping heavy items. I shipped a 2 piece winter jacket compressed in a box out via FedEx ground. Dimensional weight shipping would have scared off any buyers, if I didn't compress the jacket.
    If I order from a large clothing retailer, the item comes in a poly bag and a shipping bag. They keep the shipping cost to a minimum, to make a profit. My Prana pants was shipped in a paper shipping envelope.
    I don't bother with a thank you note or invoice, it's just redundant.
