Cosworth is the legendary name that powered some of history's greatest cars like the Lotus 49, the Ford Sierra Cosworth and the Mercedes 190E. They're a small company with a very strange philosophy when it comes to building engines. It saves them time, money and makes MO POWA BABEH! So how does it work? I'll show ya.

Cosworth's development process reminds me of what GM did in developing the first successful mainline locomotive diesels: one cylinder test mules with switchable power assemblies. That was mainly to get the injection system and thermal design dialed in so it didn't have to thump along at essentially one low RPM like all other diesels of the day. GM ended up leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else building locomotive diesels.

Cosworth is something else. I think they're a fine example of how out-of-the-box thinking and some brilliant minds can accomplish more than just throwing money at a problem. And that's not to say that their competition was incompetent or anything. Nissan knows how to build awesome engines, and yet they still sought the wisdom of Cosworth. That (and all that other historical stuff) says a lot.
I could only dream to be a minor insignificant worker at a company like Cosworth.
