  • In the hunt to find the best chassis / rollbar / suspension coating we tested a few on some sample pieces. Also review the (new to me) product called Steel-it by coating a piece, cutting it in pieces and welding it back together.

Thanks for this video. I have been researching steel it on and off for a while and just found out it comes in black. I’m sold!

Thanks for the video. I like the brake fluid test, that's something I hadn't thought of when testing coatings.

Awesome review. I have been wondering how this stuff welds. Everyone else just sprayed it on something and said, wow. Look how nice it is. I was very skeptical about the weldability. Thank you

dude.. you deserve waaay more subs.. this video was A+.. awesome review. i was trying to figure out what/how i plan to coat my cage when that time comes. i just watched a video the other day from JoDaddy'sGarage talking about that Steel-it stuff. he highly recommended it. i considered using the hammered stuff originally too. covers up imperfections and i like the look. im leaning towards steel-it now for sure..

I personally think if you do rust-oleum, enamel harder is a must. It can be thinned with acetone for faster drying and flatter finish or for spraying too. Not my first choice for paint but you gotta do what you got to do at times. With hvlp guns being so cheap both electric and air kinda hard to imagine picking up a brush. Steel-it does sound like a pretty cool product I can see as a replacement for weld primer and a finish coats.

I am trying to decide if I should use hammered or steel it to undercoat my truck. Truck is 24 years old and a lot of prep needing done. Great video!

Nice video! I mix the hammered R.O. quart with steel it paint, I just ran into steel it paint by accident, mixed it just out of curiosity, but I was so impressed by the hardness of the steel it paint, I’m wondering if the two part paint is any better?

Hey man thanks for the vid. The hammered paint is what I'm looking for to paint some old rusty dumbbells I bought. The can says black but looks grey in vid??? Also do you think I'll be able to use my airless paint sprayer? Thanks for the info.

thanks for this video man! For applications where you don't see the need to weld on later, would you still stick with Rustoleum? Seems a lot cheaper I have some travel trailer jacks that have rust appearing where paint wore away looking for the best way to touch it up

Thanks! Its hard to beat rust-o-leum for the money. Steel it is much harder and more durable if the item sits outside a lot or sees abuse. The steel-it touches up great as well. If you can get to it easily. IE not a rollcage.

Do you use a brush with the hammered finish?
