Most people don’t realize ‘120 Minutes’ is still on the air in 2022. It’s on another network (VH1 Classic), there are no VJs or guest hosts (or guests for that matter), and it’s been reformatted as a greatest alternative/college radio hits of 1980s-2000s.
This show was the incidental soundtrack for millions of teenagers who knew they were different. Now we’re adults, and if you’re here, reading this, hello. we’re comrades-in-nostalgia.

Yeah I catch that occasionally. But I really wish they would just show old episodes. But I realize copyright law prevents this. So I have to source my nostalgia elsewhere

Just as the generation before us got to see Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Queen grow into world changing superstars, we got to go see bad brains, Soundgarden, the Melvins, Fugazi, Jane’s Addiction, and even White Zombie the same way, on their way up, the heydays, and while I’ll never get to see Sabbath in America in 1970 ever again, you younger gen missed Chris Cornell achieving Godlike statues, but here we are getting older, and the joys we had embracing Zeppelin and Sabbath a decade or more after their apex, can be embraced by you with Nothing’s Shocking, Siamese Dream, and Psalm 69, just like we worshipped Houses of the Holy and Vol. 4.
Lint is that as time elapses, none of us really has a gain or loss or truly missed something not offset with another thing our elders missed out on more recently. Gearhead who died by 2000 and lived and breathed Hemi Chargers and Cobra Jet Mustangs, with roughly 400hp, would have sent us straight to the looney bin if we told them in their last days that we would be able to buy a factory warranties, brand new, 800hp American full sized, 120” wheelbase sedan that could eclipse 200mph, and it would cost less than $100,000, PLUS, we’d have portable phones the size of our hands that could help us find out the answers to almost any question you could dream of, besides of course, who killed JR Ewing, why do rockstars commit suicide, and why did Republic as become the opposite of what they seemed to have stood for, while Democrats aimlessly played damage control full time, while simultaneously committing similar offenses as the party which they so often condemned. But we now know that the horse
Es carriage did indeed replace the horse when the naysayers against the automobile at the time dwarfed the naysayers against EV cars today. The more things change, the more things stay somewhat similar but slightly different. Those that don’t learn from history, are darned if they do, darned if they don’t.

1 - It doesn't have Matt Pinfield? Not 120 Minutes
2 - "It's been reformatted"... Most people don't realize it's still on the air because it clearly isn't. I could name my bear "120 Minutes" and that doesn't mean "120 Minutes" shits in the woods. I was driving through Texas, so I thought I'd stop off at Paris but I couldn't find no Louvre Museum. What a rip off.

It's same through my earphones when I was walking or riding a bicycle on the street. But none of them will have ever visited Korea for a performance. so It's amazing to hear the same song here in Korea far from the U.S. and feel similar to you. I would say it's the other way around.
Gladly my experience with MTV can accumulate to few years with plenty of years pause in between. Plenty of idiotic shows before and after my childhood so collectively each generation had some garbage to look at enough to bad influence or simply toxic content something you turn away from anyway if have common sense.
I mean watching or better say listening to this video alone is proof that even this contains some things that are garbage. Some of it is good. Yelling into a microphone or mumbling words is not singing ... playing three notes in a loop is not music ... these people should be DJs or something instead of having those instruments only to play 3 chords and 3 notes in repeat ... with that said I can say that you are blinded by nostalgia or whatever you suffer from.
But the worst was when they aired "reality shows" and completely cut music content. Which I have no clue what year that would be but gotta be mid 00's least.
I know by that time my cable provider didn't had ANY MTV at all and I am glad for it. And never had it ever since, which is probably more then 20 years by now.

This show was like this feast with all the bands I liked from what was then called College Rock and later became known as Alternative. The day this show aired my family was in the process of moving to a new house. I’m glad there are still young bands who are finding inspiration from this era, which would be late 80s to the mid 90s underground music, which to me I liken to the seminal bands of the 60s.
