Sister and Evol are also my favorite albums by them. I think influence like that is not always noticed.
For example The Velvet Underground & Nico also proved to be incredibly influentual in the long run into the cult status album it currently is. When the album came out however, reception was incredibly poor for years on end.
I think the album sold 40.000 copies when it finally came out, with current artists saying that everyone who bought that album started a band later.
I think it was the same for Sister and Evol. I guess you could say the influence was very much delayed, or slow to pick up and in a very specific small group. I can understand that a band might conclude that no one wants to sound like them if that is the case.

When I was 12 I really started to fall in love with music and discovering new stuff. I lived in a really small, rural town in southern Ontario and didn't have any sort of access to a real record store or any places to get albums. On a family trip to Toronto, I have saved up some money and my Dad took me into Sam the Record Man. I bought the Head on the Door by the Cure, Lumpy Gravy by Frank Zappa, The Velvet Underground and Nico, and Goo by Sonic Youth. I didn't really know what I was buying at the time but I feel so lucky that I was able to. Those albums really changed the way I looked at what rock music was could be.

You actually had to do some research to find cool, indie buzz bands. Now you can just click on spotify. It's not the same. I really miss those days..even going to the record store and buying a new album was an adventure. I don't miss having to spend all of that money on cd's though...that would usually end of skipping at some point. its crazy how thurston thinks hes such a feminist, but in every interview he seems to talk over kim as if what she has to say isn't important, even though she was the real talent of the band. Case and point her solo album is way better than most (all) thurston albums

Sister was stuck in between 2 betes noires of an album - Evol and DdN - and was somewhat overlooked and underrated. I'm basically a metalhead but with a very special spot on my lp racks for SY albums, and Sister has always been one of my favourites - in pure instrumental terms I'd even say it's better than Evol, the latter probably just a little better on the theme and lyrics altogether. Anyway, i guess some amidst the ex- SY ranks also have a heart for Metal, so, we're even. My enthusiastic respects to Kim Gordon, who has long joined my RockWomen trinity, next to Siouxsie Sue and Patti Smith. Cheers from Portugal, the westernmost daydream nation in ''United'' ''Sister'' Europe.
