Super Saiyan God is the transformation that paved the way for the new era of Dragon Ball. For better or for worse, Super Saiyan God gave us Dragon Ball Super and new heights for the characters to climb towards. The form seems to have a general misunderstanding surrounding it, and the praise that it’s given seems to be something that those who dislike the form can’t sympathize with. today I’m going to breakdown the BRILLIANCE of Super Saiyan God - my personal favorite transformation.

Yes, but it was created AND ruined by Akira Toriyama.
Remember when during the Namek, Earth, and Android saga, how the entire transformation of simply Super Saiyan was an impressive feat? Yeah, that's how the lore should have progressed instead of it being diluted with Bulky Saiyan, SS3, Cyan SSJ, Rose SSJ, Tingling Back etc etc.
Here's the solution:
Reduce the SSJ Bulky transformation to only one instance. Trunks is never killed, it's Vegeta instead. Give SS2 a bigger impact. Rewrite Buu Saga to make SS1 normal whereas SS2 more impressive. Introduce SS3 late into Buu saga with eyebrows. Make Beerus saga as "Saiyan God" transformation, requires Tarble in the ritual, it results in regrowing a tail, unlimited stamina, and becomes something possible to master. Gohan revealed to have partial "God Ki" due to Elder Kai's Mystic transformation. Frieza manages to transform by using the dragon balls, but is easily defeated by Saiyan God Vegeta. Goku manages to use his Kaioken training and calm nature to break through SG transformation and into "Super Saiyan God" transformation briefly. SSG form revealed to be a faster and stronger form of SG form but has lowish stamina. A new alien called Samu attacks earth, one that can permanently steal your energy. He steals some of Piccolo's and all of Gohan's. Samu is revealed to be a protagonist that wanted to borrow the energy level to defeat a new intergalactic villain. Samu eventually defeats the villain, locked with Patrol, and returns to give back powers. He misjudges Dende for Picollo making Dende very powerful but finds it impossible to return Gohan's powers. Zamasu is revelled to be a Saiyan God form with invincibility, easily toying with SS3 Trunks. Beerus grants them the Time Ring to fix up the Timeline. Vegeta and Goku manage to escape, thanks to Trunks' sacrifice. Bulma arrives with Trunks' Time Machine, delivers senzu beans and brings back Trunks. SSG Vegeta and SSG Goku manage to defeat Fused Zamasu, and Spirit Bomb-Sword Trunks. The universe is eventually doomed, so it's deleted by Zeno, and Future Trunks now lives in Goku's Universe.
Tournament is announced and fighters begin training. Future Trunks is directed to Elder Kai to practice Other World training. Gohan learns to fly and use chi, and build his power up slowly, training the basics with Picollo. In tournament of power, the ten warriors chosen are: Goku, Vegeta, Trunks, 17, 18, Dende, Picollo, Gohan, Tien, Krillin. During which, Vegeta surpasses Goku, Future Trunks unlocks SSG, 17 and 18 tagteam and defeat most opponents, Dende and Picollo team-up and eventually heal teammates, whilst Krillin, Tien, and Gohan form a tri-group and are caught on the defensive. Gohan eventually unlocks SS1 again after failing to rescue Krillin, Tien, and Picollo. He eventually saves Trunks and Dende but is knocked out. Ultra Instinct makes a brief appearance but Goku fails to sustain it. He eventually gains his stamina back when all the failed warriors from all the other universes donate their energy to him. Ultra Instinct Goku is eventually complete and defeats Jiren, and Universe 7 wins thanks to having Android 17 in-hiding.
Then the Brolly or Moro arc begins.
Brolly seems to posses SS1 form, and is trained to SS2. His LSS2 form almost rivals SS3. He apparently eats Samu and steals his power, and attains some God Ki. Both Goku and Vegeta's SG forms seem equal to Brolly's until he begins to get more and more angry, and eventually his father is killed. This causes him to break into SSG form that rivals Goku's and Vegeta's thanks to having a higher base power, LSSJ genes, original tail, ingested God-ki, and getting angrier and angrier. He's eventually defeated before the Earth is destroyed by his anger.
I think they can eventually bring back another SSG form, by having the SSG form see a full moon, thanks to the tail. New form either leads to the saiyan exploding, or losing senses to attain a new degree of defence and strength. It's used as a last defence, and found to not be affected by Destruction Spells and eclipses the Gods.

I love how the super sayian god form is so *calm and peaceful* and it's one of my favourite transformations being only second to UI omen.

Yeah same actually. I prefer the minimalist graceful forms to the over the top powerhouse stuff.
I also like (although admittedly, ssjb also has this) that the forms have a unique powerup aura.
The flames for ssjg, the almost watery stuff from ssjb and the st.elmo's fire looking stuff from ui omen.
While I understand your disliking of Takahashi’s god goku, I do think he translated Super Saiyan god’s aesthetic way better on Vegeta. He looked so much more calm than ever and just felt relaxed

I completely agree with you Carthu, Super Saiyan God is also one of my favorite forms because of its concept and simple but unique design.

@@ashleighhamer7922 Yeah, Super Saiyan Blue could have been designed in many different ways. Like for me, I probably would have designed SSB with a different hairstyle, visible pupils, the skinny muscles of SSG, and the color Blue had in the Broly movie.

@Cedric-Joe Cadet you have a point, they even share a very similar transformation. I'm referring to Full Power Super Saiyan 4 Goku ( I refuse to call him Super Full Power Saiyan 4) when energy was being given to him. The differences being one, there were 4 Saiyans channeling their energy into Goku. Two, Pan was a kid in GT and didn't even posses the power of a Super Saiyan. But In Super, she was still in Videl and I guess you could say the ritual summoned the inner potential in Pan or something idk.

It give you a strong and fierce impression of the form and despite what many people could said said it is accurate as a super sayian GOD, I mean super sayian were always been about changing hair color and some physical mutation, the ssg did that except it's reversed in comparison of the golden forms since instead of getting more muscular and more aggressive you got slimmer, younger, have a calm look in the eyes and instead of yellow you have red hair which work to me for showing a different level of power since red is a stronger color than yellow to the eyes

Super Saiyan God, along with its change in fighting style for Goku, also feels like a much greater lead into Ultra Instinct than Blue does. I'm fine with Blue, but SSG really does emphasize the more subtle, nuanced parts of Dragon Ball as a martial arts series than Blue does.
SSG is my favourite form too, it’s just so pleasing to look at.

I really love super saiyan god from its design to its idea , the firey aura, red hair and the fact that the form multiplies them to a whole new realm of universal strength and how it changed everyones idea on power in dragon ball super
I’d fs say SSG is one of my all time favorites but I think UI is the best form/technique Becuz it’s essentially a combination of Blue and God form to create a “ultimate” form (pun very much intended)
Ui is so much different than god or blue it's a state of mind same with mui these forms are not the same with god forms

Ui is technically a technique that requires one to enter an empty state of mind allowing ones body to move purely on instinct alone its a form whis is in 24/7 (his hair may not even be white since thats what the technique does to hair apparently lol jk)

I still think Super Saiyan God should have been the last and final transformation we've really seen. It's basically perfect, it's freaking awesome in design as well.

Only the ritual achieved SSG has a healing factor and the only way to achieve this form is to go through the ritual which is a one time deal. So that version of SSG has already run it's course with Goku.

I absolutely could not stand the anime version of the form until the Tournament of Power. Takahashi brought about a level of depth to the design that I appreciated. I understand that the form was meant to make Goku look leaner, but it felt as though I could take the form more seriously in one of two situations: when we saw SSG fight in a way that illustrates a different style and dominance && when matched with a design that compliments its leap in power.
The way that Takahashi illustrated SSG, especially with the depth and realistic motion of hair and torn clothing, made me fall in love with the form for the first time.
The Broly movie semented this. I felt like the form was perfected and illustrated the way that it was truly meant to be. I'm glad that there's a style that makes me finally love the transformation.
I agree, Super Saiyan God is amazing, my favorite form past original super saiyan. I'm just salty that they didn't incorporate it more to give us that contrast of simplicity and technicality that was given to us in DBS: Broly. Well, Shintani's art style just makes the form look so "godly" so I guess I'm pretty bias.

I love Super Saiyan God in terms of the way it looks for the most part how it works and what not but I feel like Super Saiyan God should have been a permanent change outright replacing the users base form and instead of Super Saiyan blue basically just being a switch between normal super saiyan and a Divine variant blue should have just been what happens when a Saiyan with a Divine body turns into a Super Saiyan.
To me the Super Saiyan God form burning out the way that it does doesn't make any sense and the way that Dragon Ball super refuses to explain what God energy is and how it works adds to the confusion on what exactly is Super Saiyan blue is and how that works seeing as it's a Super Saiyan form that seemingly runs on God energy.
Super New10doh ssjb is basically what you said. When a saiyan turns ssjg and reaches the Ssj version of that they turn ssjb, just like a saiyan can go from base form to Ssj. Instead of replacing a saiyan's base form, ssjg acts as a secondary one with its own Ssj line up. God energy isn't anything special, it's just ki that can't be sensed by characters who can't sense god ki.
Ive been thinking the same thing for ages! I feel ssjg should've been the new base form with characters while not being able to transform into regular super saiyan forms, instead it being super saiyan blue.
@@soulsurj4782 the problem is that Super Saiyan blue is not explained that way. The way that is explained is that Super Saiyan blue is the combination of strength a calm mind and perfect energy control. There is an explanation in the resurrection F Saga where Goku basically says that Super Saiyan blue is what happens when a Super Saiyan God Goku Super Saiyan but if God is essentially a second base form which is never stated or implied to be the case it still doesn't make any sense how he would be able to switch between the two.
On top of that if God is a second base form it shouldn't have a multiplier but we know for a fact that God is much more powerful than Super Saiyan 3 and that form has a 400 times multiplier from base power
Super New10doh ssjg has a multiplier because it's a ssj transformation. That's also why he can turn into it. It's not actually his base form. I only compared it to the idea of Goku having a second base form because it has its own line up of transformations, similar to when Goku is in his base form.

Second we don't really know how Super Saiyan God or blue work so to say that God has its own lineup of Transformations is a little misleading considering that we don't know what it is he'll Toriyama doesn't even know considering that the backstory we got in a interview doesn't even match up with what is told to us within Battle of Gods the movie and the Ark
I really like this form. It's not only good looking, but it's powerful too. Gods always look younger than what they actually are. God takes this interpretation seriously.
I hope they keep the art style they had for the broly movie when the anime comes back

I loved Super Saiyan God's introduction in Battle of Gods, I always feel like Super Saiyan Blue failed to capitalise on the whole God Ki aesthetic. What should we do after this awesome, new transformation? Just take our original Super Saiyan and make it blue! Wow, how cool is that? A downgrade and a pallet swap :/

This is why ssg is my favourite form.
Super Saiyan 3 is my personal favorite form.
I still think they shouldve kept the healing aspect of ssg, along with higher ki recovery compared to all the other forms.
This and Super Saiyan 4 are my favourite
Super Saiyan God is a form that people visually like because of its naturally thin aesthetic, and because our eyes are attracted to warm colors so when we have the red orange color, it makes people love how it looks with those two combined.
I too love the transformation, I like what is done to achieve it too, very different to every other transformations. But there is one thing I dislike about it and that is the rivalry to Beerus and it just only let us see more of Beerus' power. It also made me thought that Super Saiyan God wasn't much of a power boost.
What makes this form works is the fact that it's not something he can unlock on his own like the others. Even Ultimate Gohan happens to be the release of all of his powers, but God, it's a different formula. The only way to achieve this form is by accumulating divine energy learning to control it. It's an external source of power. And the methods to acquire this is, by either performing the ascension ceremony with the help of five other Saiyans or to learn it from someone who mastered it.
This method is not only different from the other power up methods, but at the same time it takes things back to the roots where Goku had to learn to sense and manipulate Ki as well as when he learned Kaioken.
I really like Super Saiyan God. The design and idea are interesting. I'm pretty disappointed that it was passed up so quickly by Super Saiyan Blue. I wish Goku and Vegeta were given an arc to use and master the form before unlocking Blue. Another missed opportunity sadly.

If ssj is bigger and ssg is leaner then ssgss should be the same size as base imo. But obviously ssj and ssgss being the same size makes sense from an animating perspective, easier to do
I disagree, SSG is leaner because its not a follow up of a previous transformation. SSB is legit (as Goku says) the combination of SSG and SSJ. So it makes sense that Blue gets “more buff”
I also really like SSG. Heck, it's probably my favorite form of all time, with SSJ4 being a close second. Bu I also feel like false SSJ is underrated. I mean, the form appeared only once in a non-canon movie made probably ~25 years ago! It's entrance was badass, and it looked cool too. A lot of people say that it's a 25X multiplier to base form, whereas SSJ is a 50X multiplier. Don't know, I guess I've always taken a liking towards the unorthodox...

I’m guessing that Goku didn’t know The God Bind during the tournament of power so that’s why he didn’t use it or Is using the God Bind not allowed? Or trapping moves are not allowed? Then Master Roshi’s Evil Containment shouldn’t have been allowed so I think Goku just didn’t know the God Bind but it would’ve been really useful during the TOP

I personally wanted to see SSJG to be around for the whole of DBS and getting small glimpses of SSJB throughout arcs so then there's more time to think out how strong the form will be until it's ultimately shown off in the T.O.P at the end of DBS during the fight with Jiren where it ultimately needs Kaioken x3 like in the Saiyan Saga. Then leaving for there being time to let the audience really get a feel for the power during the manga and getting UI Sign and UE Sign in the Granolah arc while still keeping the SSJB form until they've fully mastered it.
i think the idea behind a calming focus kind of form makes sense... but personally even tho im tired of seeing goku and vegeta fight in blue, blue is my favorite form becasue of the brute force aspect... still love the transformation when goku and vegeta go blue especially in the broly movie... but i understand why a lot of people like god...

Carthu, could you please do a video about the many similarities between Golden Great Ape and Super Saiyan God? Like for example, both forms are stronger than Super Saiyan 3, both forms are able to increase their power over time like beyond their respective multipliers when certain conditions are met, both forms can be used as a stepping stone in order to achieve an even more powerful form, both forms are shown in some scenes depicting ancient Saiyan folklore, both forms can be mastered like how Super Saiyan can to make them more efficient, and both forms can have possible variations with each other.
I honestly want goku to merge ultra instinct with super sayain god instead of blue, the God form just feels more final, going against the primal and rage of sayains and super sayain, it just feels like it fits goku better, after all, I would consider goku more of a human instead of sayain in terms of personality, and God form just feels different from other sayain forms, it just fits with goku and ultra instinct

Ultra Instinct is a perfect state of mind, and looks stunning, but doesn't suit goku, so its good that silver hair is a Plan Z only move, but they shouldn't go down this cheesy true ui omen route, instead Have gokus character go back to another form, one that suited him, and that is super Saiyan god, Super saiyan god is a form of tranquility, it embodies goku as a character and doesn't force him to become something he isn't aka UI, The red looks beautiful and is almost universally liked, It had healing properties, manga made him slim similar to Ui, and In the broly movie goku discovered this paralyze technique, so I thought why doesn't Goku decide to master the God form, the healing, find other techniques etc..and also master kaioken, a combination of mastering kaioken and the healing properties of God, goku can go to numbers of X kaioken boosts he never dreamed of but use the god healing to negate the debuff and risk of kaioken, not saying make goku unrealistic like kaioken x1000, but u get my drift, a combination of mastered healing and kaioken syncs in harmony and its symbolic that they are both red but also fits gokus personality..I think this Mastered god form x kaioken buff if he decides, will look beautiful next to a (hopefully nicely designed) mastered ultra ego, I prefer Red x purple more than Silver x Purple, my idea of goku mastering god also means God is back like everyone wanted

I honestly think they kinda wasted the concept of god ki. Honestly i feel as though they could've done more with ssg. Like maybe give it some unique abilities and have god ki be able to do stuff no other form has done like time manipulation or kagebunshino jutsu. Give the form and ssb as well some varied advantages and stages of power. Also give blue different drawbacks and benefits
Give goku and vegeta different ways of using god ki. This would make goku more versatile and varied in fighting ability rather than just "who can hit harder".
Honestly I feel like Super Saiyan God should of been saved for much later and the god forms could of been something Goku needed to work for until the end of the series same with Blue. Goku could still have to use his other forms like 3 to go all out but his base would slowly develop God ki and grow as a result until Goku finally would unlock it, in place of Ultra Instinct, with SSJB maybe even being the Mastered Ultra Instinct of the TOP. I feel like Goku gained these forms too early, which wasted not only the potential of 3 but God itself becomes obsolete by the next arc by Blue which becomes useless afterwards in the following arcs. Im not saying SSJG shouldnt have existed but should of been built up to better and fully unlocked later on along with God ki, being something that Goku actually needed to learn and Master at a much more better written pace with more impact then Super and the movies did.
Your ideas also seem like things that could be apart of God ki and manipulation of it that they could Master too.

@@64kingarthur Not exactly, not only was Blues only real win against Golden Frieza and Broly after they needed to Fuse to use it. All battles before then with Blue included it was just a means for the characters to stay on par with a villain, Goku or Vegeta never actually beat anyone with it besides Broly who they needed to Fuse to do it, meaning Blue alone wasnt enough and the only reason they won was because they fused then used Blue which still technically doesnt count since they never beat Broly with blue but where about to before he got wished away. Goku and Vegeta only beat an opponent once with Blue. Its like how Iron Man makes buster suits to go on par with an opponent, none of them actually ever work but they at least let him be on terms with the opponent, it's just that it never actually works or gives him a win. Which is my point with SSJB, it only ever worked once with all the other times being a loss for the characters or some outside force managed to solve the problem for them.
But to answer your question exactly, Universe 6 vs 7 tournament had Goku give up before he could win but he still needed the Kaioken to get on par which wouldnt have worked anyways since we see after Goku gave up his body took massive strain on his body and left him with his ki being messed up later, Trunks arc had Trunks beat the opponent with SSJ Rage which isnt confirmed to be God ki nor do we know much about it, and I already discussed Broly.
And about 2 and 3, SSJ3 might of been somewhat useless however 2 had some serious wins in Z and was used effectively in Super. Which is why I think having SSJG and Blue built up too better along with God ki could of let those forms actually shine and could of actually gave them even more victories and could of made God ki and forms mean something and feel more natural as an evolution. While also making the God forms even better and could give them more room to shine as well and actually made them feel more earned then they already are.

Being Obsolete and useless is when the form becomes useless against a major battle(SSJ2 right in the Buu saga up to the tournament of power or SSJ3 from Battle of gods to tournament of power; both being rendered only as a stick for measuring the level of a character). You outright generalize that Blue is useless then backtrack when Gogeta used it. God was a stepping stone for something greater which I also don't see why people are crying over it when these are the same people who don't even like the form. If it ain't the usual double standard. Yes, Goku needed the Kaioken, but it doesn't change the fact that Goku was still using Blue. It's like asking someone to win a drag race with using only the first gear of a sports car while the other car is also a sports car fitted with a nitrous and is allowed to use all the gears. Kaioken was needed because Hit's hax are plainly way too powerful. But without Blue, Kaioken would still be useless. What has SSJ rage have to do with this? It was only relevant until Goku Black surpassed him. In fact, Blue became number 1 until Goku Black got powerful after a royal beating before Merged Zamasu was born. Even then, Vegito in his Super Saiyan Blue was more than a match for him. ONLY because Merged Zamasu was immortal that it was hard for him to be put down. That is still what makes the form relevant.
3 was flat-out thrown in the trash after Buu and was only recycled as a measuring stick and a stepping stone. SSJ2 only has 1 clear win and 2 relevant battles before being thrown into the Measuring stick and stepping stone zone. That's way less compared to what Super saiyan or Blue has gotten. 1 win and 3 major battles for god and 3 wins, and 4 major battles for Blue. How is that even useless or irrelevant? While Goku and Vegeta are the main protagonist of Super, Dragon ball is still a mystical martial arts anime. The essence of a martial arts fiction genre does not constitute to just winning.

@Good Morning It definitely does, it's literally stated in the goddamn show that SSG gives you a generally calmer demeanor, if you couldn't tell from the fact Goku's eyes are relaxed, and just because you may not like the fact Goku's physique is slimmed down for God, it still proves as a good stylistic decision and helps it stand out among the countless beefy super Saiyan forms. You're going off on tangents about shit not even relating to what I'm saying, and just because Blue has slight changes to aura doesn't make it any more original. It's essentially taken the place of super Saiyan for the original series and in the process eliminated a completely fresh transformation in the process.

Personally, God is my favorite form because I feel like it brings a change of pace in terms of forms and that it’s just underrated in general. If I had to be honest, I prefer God over Blue because it’s faster and consumes much less stamina compared to Blue even though it lacks Blue’s raw power. You can also transform into Blue and then back to God to max out God’s speed and power, making it a powerful form that you can stay in for a long period of time while also having a lot of speed and power, I haven’t watched the video yet but these are my thoughts about Super Saiyan God.

FrostyPrime yes he does that and claps Goku Black in the process and Goku did that in the Tournament of Power against Dyspo when he transforms into Blue and then back into God to max out the power and speed. Vegeta does the same but he switched to Blue for an instant when attacking and then transformed back into God in order to fuck with Goku Black.

You missed the point on SSG in the manga. The manga CLEARLY portrayed Blue as a flawed form. It takes way too much ki to ignite and a second ignition even took away 90% of Vegeta's overall power. That gives a good reason to use SSG instead. Until they reached Perfected SSB that is. PSSB is a concept I fell in love with the moment I read it in the Future Trunks arc. And that was only accomplished by their use of SSG to cover the weakness of SSB.

I always thought that rof and the rest of the series would have been improved if, instead of giving us blue with little to no real build up for it, they revealed that goku and vegeta learned to utilized god without the ritual and had blue be a big reveal in either the U6 arc or the goku black arc, or just never give us blue and instead tease the idea of ultra instinct with its big reveal happening in the top with goku and/or vegeta unveiling the fruits of their training with whis with ui making if feel more special and earned while giving god plenty of spotlight
To this day Super Saiyan God is still my favorite transformation.

I respect that, I personally don't like ssj4 because it just seems weird to see Goku and Vegeta into glorified humanoid apes lol. I'm not even going to try to say SSJG wasn't lazy cause let's all be honest, it was lazy, but I love it so much because it gives off a type of aesthetic that I want to have- cool and collected, and stronger than you'd think. It's the same reason I love ultra instinct, because calmness in some situations is much scarier than rage.
