- Back in June 2016, episode 47 of Dragon Ball Super released and with it came the start of the Future Trunks Arc. It's mysterious and motivated villain made the arc overall appealing and left many questioning Goku Black's true identity. One of those theories was Goten so let's discuss what if Goten was Goku Black?

This would be a really intense arc and would probably give Goku and Vegeta some needed character development while also giving Goten some relevance!
But it wouldn’t be better. Without the god complex and the mystery behind zamasu, this arc would get a lot less interesting and lose a lot of thematic value

Honestly i would've prefered this route.
I liked the idea of Goten being the true identity of Goku Black because it would start rebuilding the idea of Goku's legacy. Gohan was born with latent power, and Goten didn't struggle to unlock his. While Gohan chose to be a scholar (which fits his character), Goten showed more willingness to fight. The Buu Saga ran with the idea of the next generation becoming better than the previous, but never followed through with it. Goten becoming a villain would revive this lost plot thtead, and invert it. As said in the video, this would force Goku to reflect on how Goten has been raised neglectfully, and force change.
I do have a few issues with your take on this storyline though, which I'll address as follows. Goten becoming genocidal towards all life because of the parenting style of 2 saiyans does not line up. I'd suggest having Goten be corrupted by the influence of another: Zamasu. I would rewrite the story so that Zamasu's introduction plays out more or less the same, including Beerus sensing his Ki, however, after his fight with Goku, Zamasu would become obsessed not only with Goku, but the entire saiyan race. After studying their history, it reinforces his belief that mortals are undeserving of life. However, this Zamasu is left feeling inferior to Goku and his friends, so instead of body swapping Goku, he opts to abduct Goten using a time ring so as to raise him to be the one to eradicate all mortals. Zamasu would use the time ring to show Goten the absolute worst capabilities of mortals, with an emphasis on his Saiyan heritage. After thoroughly traumatizing Goten, Zamasu would harshly train Goten to reach his full potential, reaching levels of power far sooner than the rest of the cast ever did. Their training continues for what would be years, until Goten reaches a level eclipsed only by the gods. Believing this to be enough, Zamasu tasks a thoroughly brainwashed Goten with the Zero-Mortals plan. The rest would play out more or less as described in video, except Zamasu would have a presence as a supporter and witness to their goal, and would prevent Goku and Vegeta from interfering.

This is fuckin GENIUS!! I wish this played out! Goten having doubts and mishaps due to parenting neglect, he would question himself on who or what a sayin really is and zamasu training him sounds so much more like him, as a gentle brainwasher rather than a God so blind by his goals, he became to rely on what he opted to destroy and eradicate
This is a hella good comment that I can’t compliment it enough. This includes all of the character development as stated above and fixes the flaw that goten is too kind hearted to try and kill his family and friends over and over, because he hasn’t shown any really deep fixations on subjects other than what other people have taught him(which wasn’t that much), thus bringing in zamasu’s role in helping him with the fixation. Truly a genius comment.
Although I like your idea better, it lacks possible Present Goten character development. If it was the case that he ended up becoming evil on his own, there would be a huge opportunity for, not only Goku acting as a parent, but for Goten to become a much deeper character... Better phared, for Goten to become a character. As we would have to see the way he thinks, why he thinks that way, and changing that thinking.
This idea's strong point is Goten character growth. Your idea's strong point is that half breeds have more capacity than full bloded saiyans, which I like, but the thing is that we kind of alredy saw that with Trunks.
Then again, your reason as to why Goten became evil makes way more sense, and the reason why such a huge thing happend, is important. (Looking at you Jiren).
This comment was extremely well thoroughly thought of, with a very detailed insight of a very capable plot line that, if written correctly, would finally bridge an age old question, of why Goten/Trunks (as well as Pan and Bra) arc got thrown in the back burner, with almost no presence other than filler episodes. I mean Pan got consecutivley more screen time than those boys.
But looking at facts now, everyone has to take into consideration, for that reason to.be apparent, it all boils down to.Artists (Toriyama, etc) has a history of leaving us with cliff hangers, unfinished plot holes, unorthodox character directions, etc etc. Lets just look at a few examples what im trying to get at, moreso.questions/what ifs, that will most likely never be answered :
-What happened to Saiyans tails? what happened to theyre tails, as a major concept in its effect for all characters with Saiyan Genes. Gohan was last Saiyan Hybrid shown with a tail, and now apparently, new Broly states that his tail is wrapped around his waist, though we only have speculation as his Dead BFF Bahh Bahhs hide is covering it
-Why, in just Yrs times, could the Z fighters, not find Geros Lab, given the crucial situation? They couldve used the balls to.insta locate, or just fhoroughly checked every island, given the validated heading, ___ miles, southwest of south city
-What would Nappa and Radiizt physical appearance(s) look like if they both were able to turn SS3? How much longer would Raditz hair get, given that his hair is pretty much SS3 lengthof , just Saiyan Black, and well... will Nappa even grow hair? im under the impression that seeing Goke transforming to.SSJ3 for fhe 1st time, transformation laws state that not only does a long and strenuous time of.screaming is.required, reaching deep.within, in returm, Saiyans frontal lobe increases with obvious cranial growth, followed by loss of eyes brows, and, from what I reckon, hair growth iminent, length, reaching well.below the waist line. (We've seen Goku, Gotenks, and Manga pretty much all the.male Saiyans, except Nappa
However to finish off this post.relating to the topic. I think it just all boils down to marketing. People tend to realize that DragonBall.franchise in general, didnt reach US shores, well into being decade late, and I believe that our generation now, many have just dove into the best Anima created, recently, and is not aware of its true origins. Thus Trunks and Goten, were.most likely scheduled to become new arcs, and formally pickup and.take.DragonBall into a new era, however, to cater to the masses, marketing wise, introducing new power lvls, transformations, and introduction to new characters, would keep the franchise fresh, and more profitable, if the focus never shifted off Goku and Vegeta. I hope this clears up some questions, however, doubtful, i believe i just added more plot lines in ppls heads lol

Which would make sense, seeing that black alone was able to give Goku and Vegeta a decent beating.
Gohan black would've been better, Trunks would have way more PTSD and fucked emotions. It'd be like your father killing your entire family and then going after you except for trunks and gohans only a father figure.

I feel like this scenario sets up a good beerus scene you didn't bring up. Instead of beerus going after zamas (obviously) he would say "Goten has to be destroyed for killing gods in alternate timelines, this will stop that from happening" and Goku has to stand up for his son, creating tension between the two, which is something I think we haven't seen enough of between beerus and goku.
I think that if goku Black was goten they could have made him and zamasu unfuse cause he is mortal and then zamasu turns into that crazy universe mode.Then goku Goes to talk with goten and goten’s tear up as he tries to fight goku but goku just dodges.He says sorry he did not notice how bad of a father he was.Goten falls and starts crying and says

The plan was.Goku uses the spirit bomb and aims it into the sky that will create a 1 second opening so they have to go fast.Goku. Charges the spirit bomb and shoots it into the sky.the moments the spirit bomb hit the sky we hear
“THE REAPER OF JUSTICE IS BACK”
As an adult gotenks rises from the floor he turns ssj then ssj2 then ssj3 THEN he turns ssjrage and with all his power he shoot a giant galickamehameha(a mix between gálica gun and Kamehameha)straight into the opening just as it’s about to close.This cause Zamasu to go back to his normal state.He looks up at gotenks and says
“Traitor,You are just a pathetic ningen just like these fools.”
Gotenks smiles and says
“If been a god means I have to destroy those I care about.Then I much rather be a mortal”
Gotenks picks up the z-sword and slashes Zamasu in half.
In the end goten and trunks work to rebuild the future and goku comes home and hugs goten,then he says
“I love you goten,I just wish I had told you sooner.”

There's one small thing here... Future Trunks doesn't know fusion and Goten wasn't born soooo he'd have no bond with Goten other than the fact that he's Gohan's brother and Goku's son

I actually love this more ....wayyyy more of what they did in the anime, I hated the Goku Black arc, the story makes no sense, the twist made less sense and didnt move anyone forward, it was just....and sorry for the ones that likes Black.....it was just FILLER, at the end didn't make any difference in any character, cut that arc and look the entire DBS and the Tournament of Power will be the exact same, now this arc, developed Goku relationship with his son Goten, makes him a better father, developed Goten into his own character, developed future Trunks making him the true badass he need it to be, also Vegeta as a father and mentor figure and the same Black got a lot more deep, this should have been the real twist, sadly didn't and we end with a popular villain just for his look and personality, nothing else.....Goku Black is just filler as the way it is.

Couldn't accomplish in weeks what Super Buu did in under 5 minutes with a single hand.
And instead of ending the whole thing at a good point like when Trunks "killed" Fused Zamasu, they decided to have The Omi King step in and just destroy everything, making the whole point of traveling back, worthless since they didn't do shit to help.
All the humans were still killed and now the whole Timeline is gone.

Because again Super Buu, who is literally Dwarfed in power by Goku Black along with an Immortal Zamasu, killed every single human on the planet with a single hand. All within under 5 minutes... and whether they did it on purpose or not, it's still stupid that they couldn't and or didn't get the job done in weeks... not to mention how they had to fuse and then become a bodyless god like being before finally achieving their goal.
This whole situation would be like if Goku and Vegeta took hours to defeat a villain that Krillin defeated within a minute... whether they purposely didn't finish the job quickly or not, it comes across as stupid for such powerful characters to be shown up by someone whose power they dwarf.
And the entire ark was full of retarded moments, such as when Trunks with the spiritual power of a handful of humans and beaten and power drained Goku and Vegeta managed to destroy Fused Zamasu's body while a Spirit bomb with billions of people's spiritual power struggled to kill Kid Buu, who just like Super Buu is Dwarfed in power by Fused Zamasu.
The entire Black arc failed to live up to the hype that came with the mere idea of an evil Goku.

Honestly, though I still enjoyed this, I was expecting something along the lines of Zamasu manipulating Goten to be his underling or partner using the aspects you mentioned in the video. That said, I still enjoyed this take on things quite a bit, so keep up the good work! :D
Maybe zamazu plan initiate during goten’s adult period where he was struggled and annoyed living with his father and is this is where zamasu arrive to convince him to join force to take out not only saiyan but also humans. The pairs then would grant the wish for becoming even more stronger rather than just immortality. zamasu gives the time ring that he killed from other Kai to goteb so both can time travel. Then they will come across future trunks timeline
And he uses his signature technique...THE KEYBLADE..I MEAN KiBlade!!!

I love this. This gives Goten so much characterization. That "Can I cut my hair please?" line was a little heartbreaking when you think about how Chi-Chi has been cutting his hair this whole time to *make* it look like Goku's. Goten was swallowing his discomfort and letting it happen. After the Buu arc, he knew the reason she chose *that* haircut for him- even if he had it at birth, his hair would've always been trying to grow out of it. I imagine it would be hard to tell his mother no since he's clued in on it being a coping mechanism for Chi-Chi (She wanted to see Goku, so she made her baby look or keep looking like that little boy she fell in love with).
With Goku alive n everything- it probably uncomfortable for Goten to have the bar still going higher and higher; that life that he was likely going to be forced to duplicate once Goku dies for good.
During the buu arc, no one but Gohan (arguably) wanted Goten for anything but another Goku and a fusion partner for Trunks. Fighting is fun, but was that all he would be allowed to do, all that he would be expected to do? One day he's sparring with Gohan and learning ki control with Videl, the next, he's being *forced* to learn fusion because his older brother *died* for all he knew-- and it doesn't even work. It doesn't defeat Buu!
**Slaps Goten like a trunk of a car** this bad boy can fit so much trauma in him. You *know* he has impostor syndrome of some kind. With Gohan living in the city with Videl, I wonder if that could lead to Goten's feelings festering with his main support gone. Goku is there, he's alive, but he almost never spends any time with him. Is Goku aware of Chi-Chi cutting Goten's hair? I feel like he wouldn't approve of her doing that- if he understood the implications...

this would’ve been an amazing arc if it were Goten all grown up. his ambitions to rid of all the evil and violence of the universe. his growing hatred of his father not being there more for him. the writers could’ve wrote up something really nice. it also would’ve portrayed gotend potential of him achieving a form that goku & vegeta couldn’t. a much better goten vs trunks. would’ve easily became the best arc.

This one is very different, but with what was given about the characters, it's hard to argue even their normal actions. In any case, it would be cool if both Trunks and Goten started in SS2, but Trunks elevated himself during the fight, either to god or something else. Goten Black would have created a lot more intense drama than what the Goku Black we know did. I hope that something similar to that does happen in the future of DBS.
What would have been better is if Zamasu instead of using his wish to switch bodies with Goku, his wish was to find someone cable of becoming stronger than Goku that person turns out to be Goten. He becomes immortal and blindsides Goku and kills him and takes Goten. (we’ve seen when Goku isn’t paying attention he can be hurt). He can use Kai magic of some sort to distort Goten’s mind, takes him away and trains him to become the ultimate killing machine. Then once Zamasu believes he’s strong enough he brings him back to Earth, this is where he starts the eradication of mortals.
The Future Trunks we then see isn’t the future Trunks we know it’s of a timeline similar to the main timeline and it is the essentially the main timeline Trunks as an Adult, makes more sense why Mia is there now too.
Turns out Goten just appeared at Capsule Corp one day and when everyone went out to greet him after trying to find him for years Goten blows up the entire West City.
Trunks and Vegeta are able to save Bulma and the rest but the rest of the people die.
Vegeta decides he’ll take out Goten alone and he and Goten begin to fight. Vegeta in Blue is way to much for Goten at this point, though Goten’s strange Zenkia boost is making him stronger as he is being damaged so as much as Vegeta pushes him back, Goten keeps coming. Eventually Vegeta decides that one attack, one final flash will finish it for good, then he can go back to his family so Vegeta starts to charge up and as he’s charging and Goten is on the ground unable to stand against the might of Vegeta an energy blade goes straight through Vegeta’s chest. It’s the immortal Zamasu and he’s just been waiting for the chance to kill Vegeta. Vegeta utters that Beerus will stop them but Zamasu explains that he already killed the Supreme Kai, there are no Gods to save him and before Vegeta can utter another word a Kamehameha blows Vegeta away to nothing. As Goten lands next to Zamasu stating “I don’t care what you do, but the sayians are mine to kill. Don’t you dare try to take that away from me again”.
After fighting against Goten for so long eventually Earth is a wasteland with underground bunkers being the only way to have peace from the violence of Goten. Gohan, Yamacha, 18, Bulma and Trunks are all preparing for something. Gohan stands and announces “It’s time to stop my brother”
We cut to Gohan outside as he powers up to super saiyan as he realises that hasn’t done anything, he takes up to super saiyan 2. Still with no response Gohan decides he has to go all out and Gohan transforms into Blue (turns out this Gohan after Goku died and Goten was taken felt so much guilt over losing his father, losing his brother he swore he’d do everything he could to find and save Goten, he knew who ever took him was strong enough to kill Goku so he trained with Vegeta, with Whis constantly and unlocked Blue and would have turned the tables against Goten and Zamasu in their initially fight against Vegeta but he was on Beerus’ planet training when suddenly Beerus disappeared and Whis became inactive and so he traveled to the Kia’s planet to find no one again, he went to earth and found that West city was gone and Vegeta’s energy was also missing, when he finally finds who’s responsible he can’t believe his eyes. “Goten, I found you...” when suddenly before even fighting he is stabbed straight through by Goten himself. Gohan falls and lands on the rocks below. Goten goes to finish him when his head starts to ache and he hesitates, unsure why he did this he merely utters “Later” and leaves Gohan bleeding out. Goten would then go on to destroying Kami’s Look out, Kame House, Kori’s Tower all the while Gohan is still out of action until his able to send a signal out to Trunks to find him. Gohan has to heal normally with no Dende, no senzu beans so that leaves the rest of the Z fighters to try their hand at fighting Goten and most die leaving only Trunks, Yamcha, 18 and Gohan. Gohan is healed and this is where we pick up)
Goten shows himself once Gohan goes Blue “ahh finally you show what you can really do, you think those measly saiyan forms would be enough to beat me, I want a good fight. Like the one Vegeta gave me, before I killed the monkey prince”. Gohan looks to Goten and says “This doesn’t have to be this way, come with me now and we can find a way to get rid of Zamasu, together... I’m your older brother. I don’t want to have to fight you”
Goten laughs “You may be stronger but you’re still the same old Gohan, always avoiding the fight, you’re not like the rest of our race I’ll give you that but you’ll always be weak. You’ve been out a long time “big” brother, do you know what I’ve been doing since last time you saw me? No, how about I tell you with two words. Hercule City.”
Gohan realises what this means, “No!”
Goten laughs “Pan grew up to be much more of a fighter than you did. After she realised I wasn’t the uncle Goten she thought I was, she piccolo and buu really tried, but they were nothing but dirt under my-“
Gohan speeds across the battle field and punches Goten away and lays out a fury against him like we’ve never seen from Gohan. Energy blasts, punches, kickes, Gohan is going wild and backs up and charges a giant Kamehameha and launches it as it leaves his hands Gohan is seen crying. It’s over but his family is gone... then Gohan feels a struggle. Goten is holding back the Kamehameha with one hand and as Gohan goes to put more energy behind it faster than he can do that it’s launched directly at Gohan so fast he’s barely able to get out of the way and his arm is damaged.
Immortal Zamasu appears behind Gohan and kicks him to the ground. Gohan quickly gets up and is able to block and dodge and assault by Goten and Zamasu for awhile but is slowly overwhelmed when suddenly Goten notices power levels not to far. Goten drops Gohan and tells Zamasu he can handle it and leaves to see what the other power levels are. He finds Bulma, 18, Trunks, Mia and Yamcha preparing the time machine. Yamcha, Trunks and 18 rush him to give Bulma more time.
Goten kills Yamcha and 18 quickly and then it starts how the show does with Blacks initial entrance and how that goes.
Trunks goes back in time to get Goku and Vegeta. They fight against Goten a few times though it seems the more Goten is reminded of things his mind starts to become free from the control of Zamasu. Goten tries to stop the feelings but cutting his ties, killing Gohan finally in front of Goku. We find out more about Rose that it’s not really a God form more of an imitation of it and all Goten is really doing is just fuelling his raw power completely and it’s more of an illusion of a transformation.
Trunks is able to bring the real Goten back out but he’s so disgusted in what he’s done that he doesn’t want to fight. When Zamasu feels that he’s losing he forces Goten into the fusion with him and because of that the fusion is unstable instead of it being something that both parties want or need there’s a divide like we haven’t seen so even though he’s strong he’s not whole and where Trunks gets the finishing blow comes when Goten is able to take full control of this merger and asks Trunks to kill him. Trunks does and it all finishes there.
That way no Zeno, the heroes actually get to win. It makes sense that Trunks doesn’t stay in the main timeline because like why would Trunks move to another timeline after his is destroyed when the best timeline for him to be in is the one where he knows everyone right? Like future trunks moves to another timeline with another him in it but he could have just stayed in the main timeline and he would have just been an older brother to himself like why did he have to go to another timeline?!
Also with this, it shows Goku and Vegeta how powerful their sons can be, prompting them to give them more attention. Train them more.
Gohan after hearing how strong the other him was, hearing that he and his family was killed, it’s better motivation for him to start training to protect.

It’d be pretty trippy for Future Trunks to see a fusion of his past self and Goten fighting “Goku Black”.

To make the ark more detailed and interesting here's a few additions:-
change goten black to Saiykira. Because goten black still resembles goten's previous life. Saikira= Saiyan Kira (Saiyan killer) or Saikai= Saiyan+Hakai (saiyan's destruction)
Goku, vegeta and trunks travel back to trunks' future at least once and Goten doesn't reveal his name to them. But the interaction between goku and goten take place with the added 'guests' vegeta, Beerus, Whis. All of them discuss that if Goku somehow went rogue someone must defeat him before he can wreck havoc like goku black same for vegeta. So they tell Goten how to kill Goku and vegeta telling him he would be their only choice since Gohan doesn't train and Trunks has become just a spoiled brat.
So when Goku black reveals he's goten every one and their nan would be bone-chilled since they just told goten how to kill the two strongest persons on earth, which would create the slightest possibility of Goten going rogue if not handled properly.
P.S. I also thought that Beerus after learning that tries to just Hakai Goten, but Chichi and Bulma stops him with no reaction by Goku who was convinced by Vegeta that Goten has a real possibility of changing this timeline just like future trunks'. This plants a grudge inside Goten's mind that his own father didn't do anything to stop a GOD from killing him.

This was an interesting Timeline. Would really like to see another part continued from the events of what happened here. Also would like to make a mental note that every time the Timelines split from a disaster or death caused by someone, it splits to a positive and negative 1-to-1 situation. Kind of like what happened with Goku Black, only a bit different than the usual Timeline Splits everybody is used to. There could also be possible three-way Timeline splits, given the right circumstances in the Story, nicely tying each version of the Source Timeline together to the ones where the Story has branched off in different directions. Or compile all of the pre-existing Timelines, then figure out how to connect events together to make sense of it all, alongside making a much bigger timeline. That would be kinda cool, but yes, a bit confusing, though there are plenty of Time Nerds that might be interested. ;)

Yeah if the devs didn't say Goku black is Goku I would've think he is Goten since he looks young, he is thin, long sleeves and his hair looks different a little bit from Goku, he only has 3 pointed hair on the side of his hair while Goku has 4

You get one wish from the Super Dragonballs; he would need to go collect another pair of Dragonballs from either Earth or Namek.

Besides, some one going forward in the future, that hasn't happened yet, would probably raise some eyebrows of people way stronger than he is

You also forget that the Super Dragon Balls scatter back to different universes after they get used; it's stated that they brought the Super Dragon Balls together for the Beerus v Champa tournament from the universes they settled in. I don't believe Zamasu can just go forward a year and magically use them right then; it would take him at least a year to go and find them, unless you expect me to believe that he was able to scour nearly a dozen universes almost instantaneously, which speed feats in DB are a bit off, but to travel that fast would be essentially impossible unless you're the Grand Priest or Xeno.
So even if he did go forward a year, he would still have to find them all in whatever universe they went to and you have to account for celestial drift in the universe.

Damn, this is incredible, and amazingly written. Not only would it have been a way more interesting plot line than 'TWO ZAMASUS :O', but also because it would've also helped develop Goten and make a character irrelevant to the story a far more important role to play for once in Dragon Ball's history. It's a win win if you ask me.
