I am definitely not in T.T.'s demographic. I am a WWII baby turning 80 end of Oct. I just wanted to say that I love Tayler's stand up She is just funny! No matter what Gen you are If you don't LOL at least once you might need to see a shrink or something. Pete is also one of my favorites, which is why I am watching the video.
As a primary care doctor I find T.T's honesty about her mental health is likely to be so helpful to so many people. It is so honest, so funny, and so human. To have such insights into herself and willingness to share is just a great gift to the world. Because humour/laughter really is the best medicine.
Hey! You actually flattered her with this comment. She said, “I bet he’s under appreciated. And if the world wasn’t against him, he’d be more popular than Will Smith.”
I appreciate Taylor for many things, including the parts of honesty in her comedy about mental health and therapy and normalizing that, and how it's a journey. Between her comedy and various podcasts, and Jennette McCurdy's book tour interviews, it's let me do some deeper introspection and move my journey forward. So a huge thank you to Taylor, and also to Pete for this podcast episode.
Hi, I’m a clinical psychologist from MN. Here’s some info that has probably been beaten to death in other comments: Hypomania is a symptom consistent with bipolar II disorder. Hypomania lasts approx 2-3 days. There is a marked increase in activity. Typically this feels good/productive and often does not cause serious impairment. Mania is a symptom of bipolar I disorder. It lasts at least 1 week or longer. Symptoms include grandiosity, racing thoughts, conflict with family due to inability of others to keep up with ideas. It is commonly described as similar to meth or cocaine intoxication. Both include a history of major depressive episode. Bipolar 1 includes history of mania. Bipolar 2 includes major depressive episode, but no history of manic episode (described above). Love you both.
Pete, you’re coming at her a little bit on the hard side around spirituality. Felt like you weren’t recognizing the tenderness #TraumaThatSheMightBeWorkingThrough.
I disagree. I think he was fully trying to help even it it was outside of her comfort zone. It was all with good intention and I can relate with her and I could use some pete therapy.
I feel like Taylor is one of the best comedians out there currently. Definitely my favourite. Both specials were absolutely amazing! Rarely do I finish seeing a special and like the person as much as the content. Watching this conversation only amplified that. The authenticity, vulnerability, and sincerity that she shares while being able to see the humour in it all is awesome. Even with all the challenges, she seems like great person. I'll definitely be following her career
Such a relatable quote from Taylor: “I don’t know”, and everything Pete saying seems depressing to her, I completely get that from a VERY similar background. 💯
Taylor is amazing! Hands down one of the best comics going. Her two specials are excellent, and she's insanely insightful. This was a wicked episode, guys!
I have never before heard anyone speak about having such a similar childhood and relationship with the surviving parent before Taylor's last special. I'm glad she shared more here. She's damn funny and so smart.
‘I just want to have hands and use them when I need them’ 🤣 words to live by. Taylor is definitely one of my favorite comedians and just people in general.
As an obsessive seeker, I actually love Taylor’s approach to spirituality. Trying to map the Infinite is INSANE and I think there is a place for throwing your hands up and saying, “Yup. It’s a mystery” as long as you’re actually and authentically satisfied with that and you’re not just avoiding the impulse to explore because of fear about what might or might not be found within that exploration.

For if I have little understanding of myself, then I have no way to tell if I'm interpreting correctly, or what are my actual goals and passions, and if I'm being influenced by externals. I now leave "truths" to those are dependant on such things...this includes having n interest in arguing with those that need or desire to promote their truth as the best or only one. I liken my human beingness to a ship that sails the seas of life. If I'm a skilled captain and mechanic of my vessel, and I've sorted my vessel out so it's very ship shape, I don't need foreknowledge of what each body of water is about, as I'm extremely secure in myself and my abilities to navigate any ocean. If I've got myself sorted, I can then effortlessly explore reality without the burden of catergorising anything, especially since I've no way of determining what's actually fact or not. The uncertainity of reality is no problem if I've developed certainty about myself.

He's destroying his own podcast by forcing that drivel into every conversation. He should try to get out of his comfort zone and make a rule for himself that he can't do lengthy monologues about God anymore in his podcast
Taylor's "Look at You" is absolutely pitch perfect both in self-reflection and relatable criticisms of being 20-something today. Honestly she is so low-key brilliant, that it often catches me off guard.
Gotta be honest, I love Pete but this is the first time watching the pod. Absolutely loved it, even as a hardcore atheist. Such a great combo, thank you both for being so open and honest. Also, Taylor's Pepto joke absolutely killed me. So good!
Wow, was not expecting such a deep conversation. Love Taylor! I think the ideal of an "ego death," is what comes next, a love filled unity with everything. It's like living in a snow globe, having it shatter on the ground, exposing you to the universe, and standing there lamenting the broken glass.
I'm at the point when you're talking about the universe and I'm loving it. I was listening in the background, but I had to pause everything so I could really pay attention. I feel so close to what Pete is saying, and just... idk the whole talk was beautiful.
Omg!! The space pics have f’d me up too and every time I mention that to someone they look at me like a crazy person! Taylor you’re amazing and you pushed my OCD, anxiety, depressed ass to start a comedy class and I’m loving it so far. Thank you for the laughs and the honesty! You’re the best! 💕

I relate to not being able to handle more than 2 things in a day, no matter how minor or even if I mostly want to do the thing(s). Actually I think my limit may be 1 thing.
Someone tell Pete to put a supporting pillow under his back to support him on the couch. This setup isn't working and will cause physical pain to complement the emotional pain.
I think about "Where's Tom Petty from?" a minimum of once a week. It is part of how I see the world, and it happened without my knowledge. It was just that relevant and insightful. 🥰
I think the issue most people have is not loving themselves enough to be their full selves, and then logically anybody you build a relationship with can deal with that. Hearing these two touch on so much of that, throughout this whole talk, is priceless…
Holy crap, the version of "christ" being oneness of everything playing a game to test every possible outcome is awesome. Never been high, but the conversation is mind blowing in a way that makes me want to be.
I'm with Taylor, seeing all the new space information is too much/too scary for my brain to process. I wish it could make me think that we are so miniscule in the scale of things, so I shouldn't take things so seriously. But my brain just doesn't work that way, so I just zone out when people talk about it, just like Taylor did with Pete😬😂 And my former neighbor was a consultant for the Mars rover team, so I got a lot of practice of smiling and nodding while internally rocking in the fetal position 🙉😂
I'm glad they pointed out the hypomania is a weird term since hypo means under or less than so not quite mania is what I take it to mean where hyper mania which is supermania or more than normal mania and that seems like that would be the big one to watch out for.
Taylor politely ‘checks’ her audience which then brings you into the narrative! 36:00 I saw her at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio! My anxiety was really fucking with me but I went by myself and laughed so hard!! And girl, def keep using the vender you used for the black “have it all” tee - i love wearing it bc it’s the softest & comfiest t shirt I own!
Hypomania is a shorter and less intense form of true mania (thanks to being forced to take Latin as my second language in high school , “hypo” means ‘less than, or below’)
Glad she's getting some recognition everywhere finally, she seems to be really naturally funny. She was especially great in that Conan American Girl doll video
For the non American viewers who want to buy Apollo Neuro: I live in Japan and couldn’t buy Apollo Neuro, because they only sell it in America. Contacted customer service but they just won’t take my money. The SOLUTION is: You setup a transaction with an America based forwarding service. You can order the product to their address and they are going to mail the product to you. For a fee ofc. It is a little bit more expensive, but it is the only way I could find. Also PAYPAL does not work with Apollo if you are not from America, so use your credit card straight.
I resonate so much with his spiritual perspective on reality. You can tell he too has listened to a lot of Alan Watts. Especially with their Christian childhood background, I definitely sympathize. Took me almost 10 years to deprogram all that stuff. And I hope the future will bring more people to this open Zen spirituality because it is the only thing that can marry with science. Even down to his understanding of consciousness, this guy gets it
please consider putting the audio for these onto your libsyn YMIW page....many of us listened to your podcasts while driving. not so easy or safe with youtube.
We are all one God and in this life, we happen to be having the human experience. While simultaneously having all other experiences but can’t consciously tap into all experiences at one time because that limitation is part of the human experience. We can be aware of it, but we can not consciously experience it at once. Which is why part of the human experience is finding connection and understanding for anything, everything and anyone. That is also why it happens to be one of the hardest things for humanity as a whole. And keep in mind, understanding doesn’t inherently mean agreeing. Understanding does inherently mean connection. Which is what God is, connection I.e. everything. So TAYLOR, THAT is why your hard work matters, that is why your life matters because if your life doesn’t matter than no one’s life matters. If your hard work doesn’t matter, then no one’s matters. That’s why we grow up hearing “lead by example”. Please do not think that I am advocating for people to walk around sporting a God complex when I say ‘we are all one God’. If that is what you take away from the saying, then please do some deeper thinking.
An ant is more complex and unbelievable than a star. A star is just a bunch of glowing gas. An ant is a pebble that learned to walk and make more pebbles. We are not just ants, we are ANTS. We are the pinnacle of what we know.

"EVERYthing goes back to that"...oh Taylor, I feel that in my SOUL. 💕
Wow, was not expecting such a deep conversation. Love Taylor! I think the ideal of an "ego death," is what comes next, a love filled unity with everything. It's like living in a snow globe, having it shatter on the ground, exposing you to the universe, and standing there lamenting the broken glass.
Pete Holmes is fully embedded in his own ego, it doesn't matter how much he talks about God, he strikes me as being spiritually lost
Comedy class 😶. Open mic night is way more cost-effective, emphasis on effective.

Great interview, love this podcast sooooooo much, Especially the one's with you & val! The mix of Comedy, Life and Spirituality is magnificent! You and Val are my favorite couple EVER. I hope to find a girl like Val one day! She's everything you are one lucky guy. Thank you and your staff for putting this podcast together. Opened my eyes and changed my perspective on things forever. God bless you all ❤ ❤ ❤
I’m so appreciative of the insights expressed here. Love it!
taylor is wonderful; she deserves so much more attention
drop dead funny gorgeous
Lol my algorithm SHIVED this in my face. I like Pete a lot but I LOVE Taylor's comedy. She's so GD FUNNY!!!
Everytime i watch this i have a toboggan moment. Flippin me out!!!
She's such a great stand-up.
The apostle Paul, such a chill dude. Church of Pete.
Such a good episode.
man its so hard to watch Taylor at this point in her journey, because I've been there and I know how hard the road ahead is. But I also know that she is going to get there.
Hell Yeah, Taylor in town!
TTom is the best! I've learned SO much about myself by relating to her... and I'm a dude! Thank you for having her back! And having her back!
She is like "get me the FUCK out of here"...jesus, talk about social cues for ending.
Yes, Pete doesn't realize when he's being insufferable, and it's so painful to watch someone so unaware of their own overbearing ego
Pete IS one of the greats 🙏
He should do Bad Friends !
How has he not even stepped foot into the slept kingdom yet? He must be racist against Koreans unless proven otherwise by going on one of Bobby's podcasts please.
"QUarter Life Crisis" and "Look at You" are the names of her two specials. I highly recommend them
Love the video now Pete and friends! Just a small adjust, I like the background but if a small zoom on you and the guest can bring me in better. That's all, huge fan of both Pete and Taylor love the show!
I hate the sponsor shout outs. We know they’re ads so you don’t have to pretend like this is my ritual and I love this and use it when you’re reading off your computer…at least memorize it or just be like yo, these people give me money to make you laugh and this is the promo code so you can get a hook up if you want this item and here is the website. Common Pete! We love you
I relate to not being able to handle more than 2 things in a day, no matter how minor or even if I mostly want to do the thing(s). Actually I think my limit may be 1 thing.
Someone tell Pete to put a supporting pillow under his back to support him on the couch. This setup isn't working and will cause physical pain to complement the emotional pain.
Seeing Pete’s foot touch that pillow is making me anxious. Love Taylor; she’s a special spirit
“We’re all the same matter … And that’s why nothing does.”
God that’s good.
Taylor so damn gorgeous
She is great.
T.TOM. Somehow it feels right considering the upbringing in her storytelling and life lessons. My favorite comedian hands down!
Taylor 🥰
Pete Holmes and Taylor, two of some of my favorite comedians in the same video?!
Two things in a day sounds about right. Possibly one more than I’d like haha
Holy crap, the version of "christ" being oneness of everything playing a game to test every possible outcome is awesome. Never been high, but the conversation is mind blowing in a way that makes me want to be.
"That's hilarious. That's SO funny."
is Taylor's "Uh huh."
Holmes needs to let the guest have more space.
No, let's talk about space endlessly whether they want it or not, but let's not give them space 😂
I'm glad neither of you are like Bert. Really don't see what people find funny about him. He's the type of comic that 14 year old boys find funny.
Pete love your batman!
Soulmates... If i ever saw any.
Tomlinson is very funny. I enjoy listening to her because I didn’t grow up with any religious traditions.
Huge crush on Taylor!!!!
I recently got diagnosed with bipolar II and this has made me feel much better
Long time listener but did not know theyre doing video. Please tell Scotty auks n pft and Matty b to do video. Great pod great guest. Great blabber
For the non American viewers who want to buy Apollo Neuro:
I live in Japan and couldn’t buy Apollo Neuro, because they only sell it in America.
Taylor Tomlinson is such a babe 😍
I resonate so much with his spiritual perspective on reality. You can tell he too has listened to a lot of Alan Watts. Especially with their Christian childhood background, I definitely sympathize. Took me almost 10 years to deprogram all that stuff. And I hope the future will bring more people to this open Zen spirituality because it is the only thing that can marry with science. Even down to his understanding of consciousness, this guy gets it
can't wait for the AFTER MIDNIGHT show.
please consider putting the audio for these onto your libsyn YMIW page....many of us listened to your podcasts while driving. not so easy or safe with youtube.
Bark bark! :)
"welcome back"- The Void
The mention of the Huntington just made me think of Phoebe Bridgers lyrics. Noice.
If that is what you take away from the saying, then please do some deeper thinking.
the theme is f*ing me up...
TT#1😁
An ant is more complex and unbelievable than a star. A star is just a bunch of glowing gas. An ant is a pebble that learned to walk and make more pebbles. We are not just ants, we are ANTS. We are the pinnacle of what we know.
@1:58:00 I quote those same bits to my wife all the time even though she's never listened to it
I've come to understand it's pretty simple... Gen Z love to hate, love to judge, love to be offended. Basically everybody and everything is cringe. No need to be scared, it's not about you!
Present and checked out….. somebody’s new special coming soon
Taylor is one of the funniest people alive.
Y'all keep brushing up against absurdism, but never really hitting it.
Def have a look at Camus, and especially 'The Myth of Sisyphus'.
I think Schopenhauer would be more Taylor's speed given her responses here.
Shout out to the Firebird in STL. Nice.
I felt that one
If you liked this episode you should listen to the first Taylor episode. It was so profound. It almost made me cry at work. I always liked Taylor but she was so fucking compassionate and introspective in that episode.
I would kill to go to attend Pete’s theology lectures
its interesting to learn that taylor's podcast she did for a few months about living in new york called Sad In The City(which i loved by the way), was born from a fit of mania
I relate so much to not handling more than two things a day 😂
