- Classic Game Room HD reviews BILL ELLIOTT'S NASCAR CHALLENGE for Nintendo Entertainment System from 1991. Race stock cars from the early 90's in the 8-bit disaster for the NES published by Konami as part of their silver label Nintendo cartridge series. Videogame features several early 90's cars like the Ford Thunderbird, Chevy Lumina and Pontiac something-or-other. Nascar Challenge has four tracks including Talladega, Watkins Glen, Sears Points and DAYTONA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This CGR review of NASCAR Challenge for NES has gameplay from Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge showing stock car race cars driving game play in HD on Nintendo from 1991.

The PC version is pretty rad. It uses the same engine as Stunts and has a similar feel, which is only a good thing.
Awesome seeing you here.
But yeah this game was awesome for being a 8bit game with car setups.
That's legit cool
@@dennisbowen452 suck up, considering that comment and yours were 11 years apart!
The review is a little harsh, as the game wasn't that bad. They tried to make this game more of a "simulator" game than an "arcade" racing game (like Rad Racer). The HUGE mistake they made was to include Sears Point in the NES version. As mentioned, the controls were tough, and downright brutal trying to lumber around Sears Point. Watkins Glen was ok, but they should have replaced Sears Point with one of the other ovals like the DOS version had.
nacar dirt to daytona on the ps2 was the best nascar game In my opinion
Why TF would you compare the two?
Certainly the best console game.
The Papyrus series on PC culminating with NR2k3 is still the top of the mountain.
My dad used to play this all the time when we had our first NES! :D
Mark you are the fine wine of CZcams Video game reviewers!
For some reason I've passed this game up many times at flea markets and garage sales. I will now seek it out!! Bad games are a riot!!
I love the intro song so much.
@2computer1 totally with all those colors
I kinda remember playing this game some back in the day.
me and my brother played this game back in the day. It wasn't bad. Controls weren't great, but it looked to me like Mark didn't really play the game much, since that's like the 1st 2 tracks and he kept driving on the side of the road. This isnt like other driving games on the NES, it requires patience. Like Nascar games usually do.
lol, Metal Gear Solid: Nascar Mission
XD
I can already imagine what would be the "you lose" scene when you choose Snake
"Snake, what's wrong? Snake? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!!!!!?"
Speaking of Solid Snake's NASCAR Challenge, there's a movie called NASCAR: The IMAX Experience with Big Boss narrating it. That's as close as we're getting Snake into NASCAR. xD
These graphics are amazing.
It looks REALLY 3D.
I love how the acceleration sounds.
The original Japanese version of this game for Famicom features F1 race cars. The gameplay is the same.
Could you please tell me the name of the original Japanese version? Never met!
It's really hard to believe this game is bad without playing, it looks so technically advanced for a NES game, even the voices sound very well.
I actually played this game back in the day.
the oval tracks actually look pretty good in this game. especially when approaching a banked turn, the effect is pretty spot on for the time
haha! the sound of the engine and other in-game effects are #LOL funny
i had this for the PC back in the day...definitely looked better on the PC...
Someone probably already mentioned it, but you should play Nascar Rumble on the PS1. Its a very fast paced racing game with liscensed Nascar cars and drivers but it has powerups like missiles, EMP blasts, shields, and so many other cool things. You don't even have to race as a Nascar car. Why would you want to when you can race as a camper van and beat the crap out of Jeff Gordon?
It has a better feeling of speed than most racing game (Yes, NFS Series, I'm looking at you). I love how in racing games you can max the video settings out and they still look like you are going at 60 KM/H when you are going at 120 KM/H
I LOVE BEER DRINKING AND EXPLOSIONS!
Gran Turismo 5 will have a few NASCAR tracks, and some officially licensed NASCAR cars. They have said they will try and get as many of the NASCAR rules into the game as possible. But with 1080p graphics, a damage model that's coming along nicely and a huge budget... I'm sure it will be better than any other NASCAR game... and NASCAR is just a small part of it...
the cartridge look so damn good lol ! I think at 1.00 you got a pretty good deal
I'd like to see Jeff Gordon in a Citroen C4 WRC at the Wales Rally GB.
wow, your car looks huge compared to the other cars on the track
Good old times:)
Nascar license is in Toca Race Driver 3 and Gran Turismo 5. It might be in other non-nascar-only racing games too.
Review Nascar Rumble, you'll be glad you did.
NASCAR Racing 2003 Season for PC is not only the best NASCAR licensed game, but one of the best driving simulators to date along with Papyrus' other game, Grand Prix Legends. It's too late to see the attraction to it though, which was it's huge online community which pretty much died away around 2006 when the Sierra servers were taken down.
NICE!
i had this game b4 when i owned my 1st NES
the sound of that wud give me nightmares!
i played this game til it dident work anymore i loved it
Nascar Rumble is a game similar to Mario Kart, CTR, and other games from that genre. It is also probably the best nascar game ever made.
I'm with you all the way on there not being many good NASCAR games. I've played a few NASCAR games, and none of them were fun at all. I'll have to check out NASCAR Kart Racing sometime! Sounds fun!
lol @ the end
I saw this at my game exchange should have bought it >
@ElBarto3131 no! its
National
Association of
Stock
Car
Auto
Racing
THERE YOU GO!
i watched it in 1080p :)
I think i remember this game lmao
classic game room should review hawx 2 since its out and mark really liked the first one.
0:18 that song is 8bit sexiness
Bumper car physics...this game is as realistic as Gran Turismo!
i got this game on my nes
For me the best and only nascar game that I REALLY enjoy plain is DAYTONAAAAAA! That´s a Nascar game there! xD
People need to try playing Nascar Rumble on the Playstation 1 it was awesome!
Yeah, no idea how you could miss the undeniably classic early/mid 90's NASCAR game for DOS. Incredibly detailed car destruction + MASSIVE pile ups + being able to design your own car decals = infinite fun! I've probably played it more than any other racing game and I don't remember even finishing a single race!
Now where the heck did I put those install disks?
So I guess the red and white lines beside the grass are like gutter bumpers for bowling?
damn mark u killed this game, daytona usa would count as a fun nascar type game, also try nascar rumble for the playstation
A good Nascar game (or segment) I can think of, would be the special missions you can do in Gran Turismo 5. The PS3 is certainly powerful enough to have a full set of racers and a good sized track to actually race on which makes for a good simulation. This NES game is kind of impressive and ambitious but also lacking at the same time.
LET'S GO!!! NASCAR!!! RACER!!!
@EoinTheInsomniac
Hmm..no, check his ridger racer 7 review, i think.
@Matteger23 does auto stand for the transmission type?
NASCAR Rumble is a BADASS arcade racer. Check it out on the PS1. Crazy power-ups and and vehicles including a rocket powered chicken truck.
This is pretty impressive for an NES game. Kudos to the programmers.
it's not so slow as i expected, not bad for an 8bit console.. well the digital controller is not the best for it. would've been great at least better with some analog controller.
a bit weird is the track display like outrun. that doesn't match nascar imho.
@Matteger23 lol it just seems a bit strange to put the word automobile after the word car, i guess it was convenient to add another vowel starting with a ;)
I have waited for a long time for someone to review this game, And now Im going to be sick. I cant believe you ran this game into the ground so bad. I not only didnt have a computer while growing up I also didnt have any other game system. So for the time this was my absolute favorite game on the nes. It is amazing to me you didnt like the game. Well to each his own, I hate the vectrex. It had so many elements to the game it made it fun and had alot of replay value.
The only time I will try NASCAR is when I get Gran Turismo 5 in November. :D
@Gameplay34 Yeah this looks pretty good for NES too
@Monacomaverick
Hell ya if it did! Daytona is pure fun a awesomeness racing all in one game!! xD
GG GOOD GAME AND TEST
@DimensionalMaster It's funny to say that the you feel safe=)
kind of 3d ish but the music just makes me completely forget that
looks like it works just fine to me what a great job they did pushing the 8 bit to its limits, guy im not sure what the hell you are talking about this game looks great who do you work for LJN?
Hey the ps1 is 15 years old today!
@3L3CTR0static Nuh uh! You drive in an oval! *sobs*
is like u'r driving a buss on the race track
Racing games developped by DSI, such as Nascar Challenge and Stunts 4D, were technically ahead of their time in many regards, but fell short due to terrible controls and awkward driving perspectives.
nacar dirt to daytona was great
Too much game for the NES? You should try the GameBoy version then, lol!
I found Bill Elliott's NASCAR Fast Tracks at a thrift store and it is pretty legit, hard as hell and takes a lot of practice, but really fun once you get the hang of it.
I played this game!!!!!!
You forgot to mention F-Zero!!! THAT came out in 1991 in the US (1990 in Japan) and that raped all the racing games out around it's time! Mode 7 FTW!!!
@ThomasGGebert I agree I remember playing this game for hours at a time . You do have to be a care game guy to understand this game not to mention a good driver . I think he missed the mark on this one . LOL
By the way, what was the name of the video game store you bought NASCAR Challenge (for 1 buck nonetheless!)?
@Dannzt THAT'S a pain in the ass. Good recomendation for your worst enemy
Whats Nascar? Frisky Dingo anyone?
it looks like your driving a monstertruck in nascar race.
what i find funny is that when ur racing, weres the driver?
@rickyjshiznit Yeah the vice president said it
Mark actually gave a bad review ... This is a first for me :O
Next game should be "Days of Thunder" ;-P
You know what doesn't work...your comments, Lord Karnage!
Speaking of sports. When will you be doing a NHL11 Review?
try playing this with the powerglove
@1Minute60Seconds I want to see you even try to drive a lap.
Try out Nascar Rumble, or any of the ones on the PSX. Most of them on the PSX are good racing games, and NASCAR Rumble adds in powerups and such, for the explosions quota, and it's a party game, so there's the beer drinking.
cool
how can you still tell the difference, i mean you've played so many new, amazing graphics, games and you still can tell which old games look good ! its mind boggling !!!!! you're awesome dude ! but you still don't top scott pilgrim.
@TheSeganintendo no its a game made by sega and from my knowledge dont use real cars although they do advertise by having numerous references to sonic
Not really. The point of my initial message was that information was supposed to come from the reviewer, not one of his fans.
I feel you on the jai-li cyborg women, but again, not enough explosions!
best stick to baseball for that.
@MaikBey I never use the 1080p, 720p is just fine.
@solidsnake5798 Like a box?That shouldn't be a problem for the NES. =)
@chadheck96 well ok agree on that...I tried Nascar on GT% and it's kinda entertaining but still after some while it's just boring but well those guys deserve some respect.
Not even the Konami code can save this game.
Not even being on World Star can save you from being a complete and total tool, Maxwell Starr.
you know what's missing? Flamethrowers
@ProtoMario was that that shit on adult swim?
