To combat: actually you are missing (like all complainers) one important move that make your fighting fun. You describe it like it has some patterns - if you are against skilled soldires = just use perfect strike and dont attack....Dude that is why we are saying that you neeed to learn properly. Many players just run to enemies and start slashing like crazy and they are so angry that did not work. In first training lesson with Bernard you were told "position your weapon in one direction and when you want to hit, quickly change your direction to strike from different angle" it will confuse the oppenent and he will be unable to use perfect block aswell. Easy. So please stop camplaining about cambat. Just say that its not for you, or needs some adjustable setting for difficulty.
And to your comment about "spider sense". Its actually there. When you facing more opponents, you can perfect block all of them, you just need to watch them and be focus on another, Henry will block the others, you just do not see the green shield so you have to pay attention what is going on around you and not blindly follow your combat star marker - go with sword against heavy armor knights its also stupid and one of the reasons. Most players are just spoiled I guess. In this game is combat important same as story. Like your video but it will takes some objectivity :)

I see where youre coming from but lets be honest mordhaus combat system is way better, and the combat system in this game is not hard is just boring. You can win every single fight by walking back and pressing q, that should not be the case. Besides as i said most high level enemies dont care about feints and will block most times.
and about the spider sense, it really aint there. the lock on is atrocious so switching between the enemy sucks. And most attacks that are to your side wont get any indication. ehm if you wanna talk about objectivity everyone knows kingdom come deliverance combat is its biggest fault, its not difficult its clunky
      PS
Also Longsword goated it has a freekill combo (run thro) and weapons dont matter since once again you can win every fight with just 1 finger lol

the combat ain't perfect but once you start to understand it and using all the mechanics it just clicks and everything becomes much easier. i wouldn't say the combat is bad or poorly designed (clunky yes), but rather how they teacher the player all this is not good what so ever. first example is perfect guard, you as the player have to go back to captain Bernard to learn how to do it and combos. the game doesn't tell you this, just one of the npcs tell you oh maybe go back to him to practice combat. it doesn't tell you that training with him unlocks all the core combat mechanics.
how you're supposed to "be good in a fight" is to feign attacks, perfect block, add in combos, win clinches (if the enemy's strength is too Hight to win lower their stamina and health to make it easier, and spam your mouse as that is what makes you win the clinch, which is another thing the game does not tell you). and that's just some basic advice i haven't mentioned spacing, running, using elevation to your advantage, consumables and a few others. the combat is way deeper than one might initially expect and i'm still learning new ways to improve after 200+ hours in the game.
i could go on more but this comment is long enough.

The games fault is that it doesn't let you train more than one guy which i feel isnt great one guy is always ok if you move a lot even at five etc but yeah combat needs effort this game isnt a typical rpg its a simulator too

@@cornstarchxd@cornstarchxd Coming from someone that has over a 1000 hours in this game you're completely wrong about saying the weapons don't matter. Maces are Superior against armor and in general. Swords and axes are only good against armor if they stab. I can one tap most enemies, only enemies that have superior armor are 2 hit kills. And for the fighting style in this game I agree with the original comment if you don't like it ask for an easy setting do make them ruin a good game just because it's not for you.

I think the main problem with kcd combat is entices you to become a knight but that is really unrealistic, and therefore players skip important things like stealth, poison, potions ...entire gameplay systems which are amazing in favor of getting the shiniest armor and leveling weapon skills, when in reality, you would never be fighting more than 1 foe in an open field battle, especially as a lord or knight. It would make more sense for Henry to lead men into battle and dictate their actions, rather than fight 3 guys, but since he has to fight 3 guys you are supposed to combined tactics, bow, poison, potion buffs, with the correct weapon and skills to be able to beat opponents. Maybe they needed more cut scenes or set pieces in the big battles.

I feel like you're so right when you talked about combat but... the combat system in kingdom come deliverance is fucking amazing at some points. Like the animations really immerse you and in my opinion the only problem in combat is the master strikes. that and the game should really focus on fixing the AI and make them more easily "feint-able" if that is a word. and should remove master strikes all together or make riposting actually like how you do it in mordhau. but not just change the combat system to exactly mordhau.
also, I think you're absolutely right on the village part.
The villages are so boring at times and there's no incentive whatsoever to go any where, but it shows that they tried to make the villages more interesting by sprinkling in some side quests. If you go to a tavern you'll see the tavern keeper has an option to tell you about people's problems and sometimes says "fuck off" if you look like a no-good dirty bandit, which i found to be kinda cool. So they atleast tried i guess.

I am allways glad when someone recommend this game. So even though I disagree with some of the complains you mentioned, I don´t want to make it sound like I try argue with you. It´s more of an advise how the simple change of mindset can shift theese problematic parts to one of the best things about this game. Because I actually think that this game requires a change of mindset to fully appreciate it (for me it was quite easy, since it was my first large RPG - and I actually have some problems to adjust to mindset of more conventional RPGs, when I play them).
Regarding the fighting system, you have some good points, but I don´t think they are that crucial. For example I don´t thing that "one button easy win" being there is a major problem (even though it is not ideal, and they plan to change it in second game for what I know). You can deliberately choose to not using it (or at least not using only that). There are dozens of other ways how to beat stronger oponent (push him and strike immediatelly after that, choose weapon based on his equipement, deplete him of stamina and then chain several attacks...). I think that master strikes were originally ment for players who don´t want to dwell deeper in the fight mechanics. But if you just stick with them and don´t propperly explore other mechanics, they could seem just as only way against stronger enemies. But it wont be true.
I agree that when facing multiple enemies, the targeting system is bad. But I don´t think, that you need some indications of attacks from behind. A crucial part of fight against multiple oponents in real life is not letting anyone get behind you in first place. Exactly because you would not see thier attacks. I don´t see why the game should make it less important. Actually I consider the fact, that in this game your positioning and awareness of your surroundings is a large part of fighting, to be one of the coolest things. Don´t want to get hit from behind? Don´t let anyone get behind you. If you fail in that, it is the same as if you would fail to block oponents attack, so why not get punished for it?
In case of large battles, I agree that this game lack some polishing, but probably from different reasons than you have. I think that soldiers on both sides should stick more together and cooperate better (by for example avoiding to turn back on any enemy unit). And that there should be something, that motivates player to do the same. But when you separate from the major body of your "army", it only make sense to either get overwhelmed by enemies (if you appear in the wrong place), or to take them by surprise. In battle you almost never would have a chance to somethink like 1v1 duel, expecially when not in line with your allies. So why put it in the game?
Your hand trembling with the bow just means you have it drawn for too long. In reality you would experience the same thing with any havier bow. Even the experts who train most of their life with historical longbows (for example) claim it to be really hard to have bow drawn every one second more than needed. With bow you are not expected to take long aim. You draw and loose practically in one breath and aim mostly by your experience. If I remember correctly, Bernard actually tells you something like that when he teaches you archery. So your hand shaking is actually just a sign that you are doing it wrong and should retry. I am honestly thrilled that it is part of the game. It makes archery much more believable.
And as for the "empty" villages. Here I think the problem comes solely from looking on it from bad perspective. This game deliberately shift the focus from player to the world, in the terms of the world existing for itself, not for the main character (or player). If there is a village, why it should have something for the player, if the people from the village would not need it, because they have it in the other village few hundreads meter away? That I consider to be some reflex from other games. Why the simple existence of the village requires it to be somehow more important for player than other parts of the world? If it catches my eye, I can explore it regardles of present merchants. If it does not, I can pass it and consider it just a change of travel scenery. If some quest leads me to that village - cool. If it doesn´t - cool. The village is ther for the people who live there, not for Henry. It might be sometimes impracticall in terms of selling loot and repairing things, but it only means that you have to do some planning ahead (because you know, that you´ll have theese services just when you finally reach Rattay). That´s a good thing in my opinion.
And I don´t think, that this mindset behind the game will change with second one. The creators try to subvert some mainstream expectations about medieval and about gaming, and I think that concept of world living its life by its rules, not for the main hero, will remain. And I am looking forward too it.
Btw., there will be Kuttenberg in second game. It was one of the wealthiest city in Europe during that period. :-)

  • @call_me_mado5987
    @call_me_mado5987 Před 17 dny

Some ideas I have are these:
Make Henry have poor edge alignment with a sword and axe at the start of the game, and swing a little slower, this is also the case with other low level enemies. With a mace however he would swing a bit more slower and consume more stamina, as a mace doesn't really need edge alignment (well maybe warhammers a bit i guess but you can decide).
Also enemies can perform master strikes if they block in the direction you hit them at, so that way they can't perform master strikes willy nilly, but can still do them. But it makes it so that combos are actually useful in the game because in the entirety of the game I didn't really use combos that much if i am honest, because they kept getting ruined by master strikes. Although for the player to do master strikes he also has to block in the direction of the attack.
And stabs should sometimes miss from the player and the opponents. Also you shouldn't be able to damage someone in full plate by swinging at them with your sword, unless it's on the head, instead you could grab the longsword by the blade and half-sword it, and then you would be able to thrust between the gaps more effectively. Although you should be able to thrust with a normal grip at the gaps it wouldn't have as big of a chance for it to succeed. Also you could learn the murder strike if you train your strength and sword skill in the game enough, so you could defeat armored opponents with a sword effectively. Axes and maces would work well on plate armor no matter how you will, at the expense of being slower and needing more stamina, so agaisnt a lot of opponents a longsword might be ideal.
To add, make the locking of the enemies from pressing tab better, as it currently is sort of glitchy, and for the love of god... nerf dogs, they are way too overpowered and can make you unable to do anything for like 10 seconds.
And finally a fun thing to add would be grappling ,you could wrestle an opponent if they have weaker strength than you , and stab them with what would be a dagger you would caryy , that would add to the functionality of the dagger, and also make it a viable option to kill armored opponents, just like how they did in history, plate armor was a lot of times defeated by wrestling someone on the ground, pulling out your dagger, and just thrusting it inbetween the gaps. This would be more viable for 1 one 1 combat though.
