Nice of you to comment here Pam. I've listened to Larry since the 70's. Hopefully some of it's rubbed off on me but I still have a long way to go to be a songwriter of his caliber. He topped Dylan back then in my opinion.
I've performed lots of Larry's songs in church and other venues through the years. Saw him in concert twice and almost got to have dinner with him once. I loved the way he used words.
This is a perfect record. People's version of "I Love You" is far superior to Zombies version and I love the Zombies but People nailed it in a way that was special. This is a truly great record in every way. Stunningly good.

People...We all can look back and wonder why this or that didn't happen. What can anyone say? You made a good record and even bested legends like The Zombies by interpreting their song better and had a world wide hit with it. All in all pretty good I'd say.
Colin Blunstone later admitted that this wasn’t one of his favorite numbers 2 begin with, and the success of this version just added 2 the Zombies’ frustrations as they had already collapsed after Odessey & Oracle, which came out around the same time this song did!!!!!!
That sang with emotion. I miss humans like this group.❤ then meth came long hid emotions. Now no emotions. But negative cancel culture. I miss these groups. All about human emotions
For several reasons, this song, this version has been very important in my life. I had the 45 in 1968, and when I lost it, I spent about 30 years trying to find another copy. Happy to find the song on CZcams in case I ever lose it again.

My gosh, it's so cool that so many people have so many connections to this band called PEOPLE. They're either related, knew them or knew someone that knew them. It's so interesting to read the comments. This is quite a tight group of people, and even though I've listened to a few garage bands where I lived in Buffalo in '68, I don't know anyone in the band PEOPLE. I surely loved their song then, still do today.
I was 11 when this came out and remember listening to it on my 6 transistor radio at poolside. It epitomized ‘68 along with a lot of songs that year. Never had heard the Zombie’s version before. It reminds me of The Letter by the Box Tops…a song that you want to continue when you get to the end. It gets to the end too quickly.
The original Zombies version from Fall 1965 was a B-side to "Whenever You're Ready," that bubbled under Billboard's Hot 100 at #110. People! took the song to #14, Summer 1968.

Bob, this footage and music track was directly from Dick Clark Productions. If you don’t like the mix that’s because that’s way our producer mixed it 50 years ago. No one in the band had any experience in the studio. At the time we liked it. After 44 years of living in recording studios as an engineer I know I would have mixed it differently. I've always found Larry Norman's voice fascinating. As he showed in this offering... He has several vocal styles. The two main ones are here. The clear smooth on and that other one that is kinda bad but is his signature vocal sound.
Well, he went on to became the father of Christian Rock music. His voice fascinates many people. He can sound like Mick Jagger and Carole King. He also does good instrument imitations. He was offered a lead role in the musical Hair (you know, the blonde-haired guy) which he turned down because you didn't like him!

Absolutely fantastic - apart from the joy of seeing Larry how good is that vertical keyboard solo and then the song stops dead!
