This a very different version of the 1965 hit Eve Of Destruction recorded and performed by the rock group PEOPLE! Gene Mason, John Tristao, Geoff Levin, Robbie Levin and Dennis Fridkin. The lyrics could have been written 5 minutes ago. The song also has personal meaning to us.

The original Zombies version from Fall 1965 was a B-side to "Whenever You're Ready," that bubbled under Billboard's Hot 100 at #110. People! took the song to #14, Summer 1968.

I was 11 when this came out and remember listening to it on my 6 transistor radio at poolside. It epitomized ‘68 along with a lot of songs that year. Never had heard the Zombie’s version before. It reminds me of The Letter by the Box Tops…a song that you want to continue when you get to the end. It gets to the end too quickly.

Nice of you to comment here Pam. I've listened to Larry since the 70's. Hopefully some of it's rubbed off on me but I still have a long way to go to be a songwriter of his caliber. He topped Dylan back then in my opinion.
I've performed lots of Larry's songs in church and other venues through the years. Saw him in concert twice and almost got to have dinner with him once. I loved the way he used words.
Wasn't there a prominent Christian artist whose wife Larry had an affair with?

Reminders of the great "Junior Teen" and "Teen" dances at the Mountain View Recreation Center. So many great South Bay bands in the '60's. The People, Stained Glass, The Syndicate of Sound, The Blues Cheeze Spread, and my favorite "Bogus Thunder". Thanks for the memories.

You have to love the way Al just touches the keyboard, not fingering any notes at all as he shoots a look at the camera that seems to say "this scumbucket won't let us play live."
Fantastic and unique and IMO the best version of this song-too bad the California group was a one hit wonder but if you go to Wikipedia it sounds like that cult pretend religion Scientology of all things, which some menbers of the group fell for, is what caused the group to splinter and die. No wonder.
The guitar and old tube Amp hooked me when I was 10 had cool cool sound. On this song I mean

My gosh, it's so cool that so many people have so many connections to this band called PEOPLE. They're either related, knew them or knew someone that knew them. It's so interesting to read the comments. This is quite a tight group of people, and even though I've listened to a few garage bands where I lived in Buffalo in '68, I don't know anyone in the band PEOPLE. I surely loved their song then, still do today.

For several reasons, this song, this version has been very important in my life. I had the 45 in 1968, and when I lost it, I spent about 30 years trying to find another copy. Happy to find the song on CZcams in case I ever lose it again.
