  • Although there are those that doubt the influence of good interlinks on the sound, they are very important if you want to preserve the audio quality your sources can deliver. That’s no voodoo but for a large part known technology en for a small part still unchartered territory. Let’s look at the know technology.

    Wow, love the bicycle/boat cable analogy. That was quite helpful.

    I choose double shields (interlaced and foil) single thick cooper wire with teflon dielectric insulation built with a singled ended drain connection at RCA connector and coiled around the length for my IC. The experimental sound effect delivered attractively interesting results.

      Volkswagen chose real-world over measured performance. Yes they cheated the emissions testing, but a more efficient diesel engine produces less exhaust.

    What are the extremes in this scenario? For instance, in your room, what is the difference in THD or whatever from the cheapest RCA's vs. some you consider as premium quality? it's similar to writing on a vitamin C bottle: "helps support immune system", OK that made be true, but how much? % .0001? %5? Once again, I'm not being malignant, I'm just skeptical of the efficacy of fixating of cables when so many more tangible, measurable things can audibly effect the sound. I appreciate the work you do, keep it up!

    so the dbv is listed as parts of 1v total, if we had 4 or 5v output signal then all values would be multiplied by 5 right?

    Hi Hans, Interesting video's. Can you help me on some issue? I am in doubt of using XLR balanced on my set or just go for the "normal" connector. As you mentioned in your video, it depends on the build of the equipement if things will work or not. Do you know if my Cambridge set is build as a true balanced set? I own the 851 N/E/W combination.

      I am sorry but I don't know. You could aks your dealer, the distributor or manufacturer.

      I did but I got a very nice "shallow" answer... which meant something like... Of course it is balanced :)

    Hans mains transformer which are not shielded which are used to convert the mains supply in to a lower voltage to power the equipment and mounted in the pre amp and power amp how does this effect the performance.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 7 lety

      Simple question, but hard to answer. There are many transformer constructions and shielded transformers might not always be the best solution. It's always about the total design concept. It's like asking if 16 valves in a 4 cylinder engine are better than 8. Well it gives more BHP but less torque.....

    • @dambuster6387
      @dambuster6387 Před 7 lety

      I have Audio Lab pre amp and power amp they use troydle transformers and are not shielded. Yes they give lower magnetic field than the older type of constructed mains transformer but the magnetic from both types is more than the power AC cable gives and of course they are inside the amps which is a greater concern.

    • @dambuster6387
      @dambuster6387 Před 7 lety

      Just one other point Hans if you do a simple test by using a microphone plug in to amp put it near a mains transformer and of course you will hear a loud AC hum and then put it near the AC power cord the hum will be very low down and of no concern and would not affect the quality of the audio the mains transformer is of more concern how it is placed in side the amp

    Hans, hulde voor je video's. Hier snap ik iets niet. Je zegt: de straling van 230v wisselstroom is te horen in het signaal van een interlink (als ruis? Als brom?) op -50 dB als de afscherming van de interlink 90 dB is. -50 dB komt op mij over als heel hoog. Onder welke omstandigheden wordt die -50 dB gehaald? Is het daarvoor voldoende de interlink en de niet-afgeschermde netkabel elkaar kruisen? Of moeten interlink en netkabel om -50 dB te bereiken strak tegen elkaar aan liggen, over een afstand van meerdere meters?

    Happy 2017 Hans. I was a faithful believer in XLR because I believed such design can eliminate ground noise, but my ears disagree with me often. My question is: how is silver plated copper cable (or the other way around) change the properties of a cable? conventional wisdom suggest the electricity will only goes through the most conductive material (silver at this case), but I cannot agree on that conclusion.

    • @1mctous
      @1mctous Před 7 lety +1

      They work like resistors in parallel. More goes through the lower resistance but they both conduct electricity.

    Maybe the best solution is fiber audio cables to speakers that have built-in DACs. That eliminates the worry over those picking up interference. If that's an option, it's the best choice without need to consider your environment.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 7 lety +3

      That might solve the cable problem, but does it solve the audio quality. You will be hard pressed to find the combination of a top quality DAC, a top quality amplifier and a top quality speaker design coming from one manufacturer.

      However most companies can make at least one or the other. And having super high end gear is not necessary for great sound if you pair the right gear up and put i in a good room. most audiophiles forget the room and focus too much on the system. or they go overboard and put all kinds of panels and reflectors on the wall, and become obsessed with it.

      I wonder if it's less expensive to hire an audio engineer to study the room and electrical outlets and prescribe equipment and hardware and how to set it up than for the layman to figure it out himself. Considering the time it takes to learn.

    • @jasonlisonbee
      @jasonlisonbee Před 7 lety

      It can be to an external DAC. It'd probably be even better if the DAC also decodes your prefered format. From there probably all you need is a line built like a professional guitar cable. It naturally cancels out interference.

    Cables are important as long as you don't put a 2000 euro cable on a 1000 euro dac like many do.

    silver plated and pure silver cables sound very harsh with analog signals but seem to sound really good for digital. as for people that say cables all sound the same try comparing kimber cables with monster. audioquest against wireword etc, they all have their own distinctive sound signatures due to differing construction and materials.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 6 lety +4

      Well made pure silver cables, like the Siltech monocrystal cables don't sound harsh, I can assure you. They are crostly but are extremely good and certainly not harsh in any way.
