When someone says something I don’t understand, I ask for one repeat. If I still don’t get it I say “Okay I’ll tell you what I’m hearing.” Then I repeat the exact noises that I heard. Whether it be gibberish or words that are clearly not it. Makes for a quick laugh and let’s them know what parts to emphasize to help me hear correctly. OP strat

A lot of these are situational, like the one about not hearing something in a conversation. For me it depends how much time I have, and how good friends I am with that person.

My issue is that if I'm not getting there on the time they say, then what time do I pick?
