Pro tip - spend $10 and pick up Vetricyn and wonderdust! i know the pain. 2 months ago i came home to 7 chickens and 2 ducks tore up by my dog. All the birds had their back/ass feathers ripped out, and half had significant muscle damage. I irrigated the wounds with Vetricyn and then sealed their wounds with wonderdust. For the next 2 weeks i kept the worst damaged birds indoors in cardboard boxes and power fed them high protein feed. I thought i'd lose at least 3, but birds are resilient and they all made a comeback.

Their eggs are very good to eat! A few guinea fowl would be good, they're a good guard dog and will let you know if there are any coyotes about. Their eggs are even better! A few more ducks of course just to fill the space!! Enjoy your fishing trip, you lucky man! Stay safe all of you pets and ducks included! Malc and Ann (England) UK xx

The egg laying heats up when daylight hours get to the length that hormones are released to trigger laying. The same happens with the rut in deer. That is why the light is controlled in egg production barns. It's all biological responses to length of daylight.

We raised pheasants for several years and always had netting over the top of the flight pens. Hawks would actually perch on top of the poles that supported the mesh netting and watch for ANY way to get into that pen. Just an fyi. Good luck you guys !!
