- The Deviate Claymore is a bike that has been gaining quite a bit of popularity as of late, and for good reason. Its high pivot rear suspension design allows the suspension to move throughout its travel with a "chainless" feeling which can partially be credited to the idler pulley that helps mitigate chain growth, and allows the suspension to move freely and unencumbered by chain growth forces. What this translates to on the trail is simple: an extremely composed ride that's super capable and confidence inspiring no matter the terrain. What are your thoughts on high pivots?
From a kinematics standpoint, high pivots make sense; the probable axle path should nearly match that of the fork. It was the thinking behind the maverick ml7.

Absolutely loved riding this bike, wouldn't mind having one 😁
I picked up a Claymore a couple of weeks ago. I've only had it out a few times and I'm loving it. Great traction climbing, stable, yet maneuverable, and fast as heck. It's a beast, but definitely not a boring sled. I need a few more rides to dial the suspension - I've take a lot of compression out and I'm still tweaking rebounds, and I'd like to get the fork just a bit more plush feeling.
But it's awesome so far.

This was on my shortlist for enduros when I was building last year. I ended up passing on it and getting an EVIL Wreckoning V3 because I didn't want to deal with 2 chains and I love the way EVILs feel. I wish I had known about the cable gutter, I work on my own bikes so I love external routing.
The cool thing with the Deviate Claymore and Highlanders, with the High Pivot and chainstay length. You actually don't need 2 chains! :)

Have you guys done a video about why the high pivot thing is.. well.. a thing? I've been riding a full suspension bike now for a year; and I still have no idea what it means to have a chainless feel or chain growth or if it would even improve my ride. 🤥
We haven't done a video on high pivots exactly, but we did have our friend Neko on the MTB Podcast and we talked a lot about the pros and cons of the high pivot design. If you're curious about how your suspension feels without a chain, take your bike to the top of a technical descent that you're familiar with and take your chain off and ride down and you'll definitely be able to tell the difference.
