    ---
    Frogs and toads are closely related and share similar features. They’re both small amphibians that spend their early lives as tadpoles and develop into air-breathing animals as adults, but it’s important to know how they’re different, especially in a pest control setting. These two animals prefer different environments, and can impact how you approach certain aspects of your treatment.
    Frogs are small amphibians with varying body sizes, but you’ll find common backyard species as big as 3.5 inches in length. They’re body colors include patterns of green, brown, grey, yellow, and shades in-between. Frogs have smooth, wet skin and slimmer bodies when compared to toads. They also have powerful hind legs that they use to jump around.
    Toads are another amphibious animal, and you’ll find common varieties as big as 6 inches in length. They have a more narrow range of body colors made up of different browns. Toads have dryer, rougher, bumpier skin and stouter bodies compared to frogs, and their legs are noticeably shorter and more suited to crawling than hopping.
    Frogs live near freshwater. You can find them around ponds, in gardens, tall grass, or where there is plenty of leaf litter. You can also find frogs in wider areas after rainfall when it’s still wet. Be on the lookout for high levels of insect activity. If you find standing water, this can attract mosquitoes, which in turn will attract frogs. At night, you may be able to find frogs near outdoor lighting, where insects gather.
    Toads aren’t as tied to freshwater as frogs are, but they still need a moist habitat. Look around your yard for spots that can retain moisture, like gardens, stumps & tree roots, leaf piles, or other features close to the ground. They have similar diets to frogs, so you can still find them close to standing water and near exterior lights at night. You can find them underneath loose rocks or debris when they’re inactive during the day.
    To control the frog or toad population in your yard, you’ll need to treat their food sources and employ Integrated Pest Management strategies, or IPM. Before you start, calculate your treatment area’s square footage by measuring the area’s length and width and multiplying them together. You’ll use this to determine how much product you need to use. Start your treatment with an insecticide like Bifen LP. Bifen LP is a granular insecticide that’s labeled to control a wide variety of insects for up to 90 days. We recommend you apply Bifen with a broadcast spreader to make the application over your entire lawn faster. On a residential lawn, apply the Bifen LP granules at a rate of 2.3 pounds of product per 1,000 square feet of treatment area.
    Once you’ve finished your Bifen LP application, it will need to be watered into the soil to reach the turf’s root zone. Do this with an application of Reclaim IT. Reclaim IT is a broad-spectrum, repellent insecticide labeled to treat over 70 insect pests for up to 90 days. This insecticide comes in the form of a liquid concentrate, so we recommend you apply Reclaim with a 20 gallon hose end sprayer to make a high-volume application that will activate your Bifen granules. To control most insects on your turf, apply the product at a rate of 1 fluid ounce per 1,000 square feet.

    i love our resident tree frogs. Our garden now never has a snail problem in the garden - so I think they must have eaten every snail egg they ever found. We do not have any bird baths nor any pond so they cannot breed in our garden - thus they have never become "too many" for us.
    But there are wet lands about a ten minute walk away from our home so we know where they came from. They have happily lived in our garden for over 5 years now. We do not feed them but clearly they would not stay for 5 years if there was nothing to eat. They do eat all sorts of insects in the garden. Reason why we never use poisons in the garden - meaning the fruit and vegetables we grow are not touched by poisons. none of the frogs have ever entered our home - they prefer our well mulched garden full of plants

    • @Noofter
      @Noofter Před 2 lety

      @@ExtrovertedCenobite Pesticide is unnecessary if you properly clean your house and store your food properly. Comparing a potentially venomous snake to a frog is like apples and oranges. Venomous frogs don’t exist and the poison ones are only dangerous if you try to eat them. Oh boohoo you get hopped on? Suck it up. And yes it is coddling to not ask someone to get help and letting their mental illness dictate their behavior, I would argue it’s even abusive to the person. I’m not going to respect someone murdering beautiful and ecologically essential critters because one time they had to shoo one off their door or something, I don’t believe in telling sociopaths their behavior is normal. Do you also kill people that make you nervous and anxious? That may sound like a ridiculous question but by your logic it’s a morally sound choice to make apparently. There are places without frogs for those people who can’t handle them, in fact there are quite a few of those places. You wanting to live in a certain region doesn’t override the right of the native animals that have been there for thousands of years to exist

    The only reason you'd be afraid of frogs and toads is if you've become so domesticated that basic natural sounds and animals are alien to you. If you complain about them getting in your house just stop leaving your door open or take them back outside. You have to be a special kind of evil to kill frogs. Amphibians globally are already suffering mass exactions from things like pesticides, they are so important to our ecosystems and it's maddening that people want to kill something so important because they're loud or 'scary'.

    Don't get rid of frogs and toads. They are part of the natural ecosystem, and their sounds can be very soothing if you have the right attitude. A world without wild creatures would be a very lonely and desolate place.

    It’s crazy how some people are attacking others for being afraid or not want frogs on their property. I personally am afraid of them and do not like them on my door they poop everywhere and I think it’s a bit disgusting 🤮 I do not have any bugs or tall grass like like to sit on top of my light fixture. I enclosed it and they still go on it 🫡 just crazy!!! I don’t want to kill them just want them gone. And I think we have the right to want to peace of mind for ourselves. That’s like being afraid of dogs but someone telling you no play with it or not liking the way something taste 👅 that’s what makes us unique we all like and dislike different things.

      My wife & me recently bought a home near Augusta, GA. There is some kind of small pond or Green body of water just on the other side of the fence from us. We are covered in frogs every night! They are all over our back door, get smashed in the door, they crap on the door, get inside the house & inside the garage. Whenever you go outside at night, you can't avoid them. You will step on them, not even trying to! I normally don't mind frogs, but I do when they become an infestation!!!
