Many thanks for this back to basics vid's. I have only been using MSFS for a month, and I must admit that I have struggled. But I'm happy to report, because of you, I can land a plane without crashing (though not perfect yet), and now I can fly using VOR with confidence.
Yippee! No more autopilot when doing flights under 150mile. MSFS no longer feels like an expensive screensaver.
Also thanks to your videos on the T-Flight Hotas One, I have one on order and it should be with me this weekend. So a Huge thankyou to you, I really appreciate all you do for the MSFS community. All the best Elric
Thanks Eric, that is massively appreciated and do let us know how you get on with your Hotas One (great Hotas!).
@@Huddison I certainly will. I have booked marked your settings vid ready for when I get mine.
I just hope that they have finally done something about the sloppy throttle? Which I doubt!
Newbie on Xbox s. Your videos are fantastic, thank you for making the sim so much fun and educational!
Thanks John, you sound like my target audience :)
I just watched your series again, 1 - 9. These are really great to just refresh your knowledge. Thank you so much for these helpful videos.
Thanks for the great comments Howard.
THis should be a go to tutorial for alll pilots for pilots old and new.....THANK YOU SIR!!!
Loving the RAF flypast from your other subscribers and the impulsive landing at the end, Huddison.
Thanks my friend. always up for an air escort.
Great video. Love the F-18 gadfly adding a bit of fun...
This is an incredibly informative and enjoyable series!
Thanks, that's highly appreciated feedback.
Very useful, understanding VORs concepts it's not so simple for beginners ... THANKS !!!
It's a fairly complex subject, but hope this helped.
Great part 2 to VOR. Also figured out how to delete all the saved flight plans on my xbox, in manage games I deleted the gamer tag saved data and not the saved data under it.
Ah brilliant tip for Xbox flyers 👍
🤣 I thought you were going to land at the threshold! The WRONG Threshold, but a threshold nonetheless haha!
As for making things easier, yes.. I agree! I like letting the AP manage the plane sometimes, but I manually adjust headings etc... like you did. 😎
But, if you REALLY wanted to, you could engage NAV mode, and the AP would follow the VOR for you... Not as much fun though.. haha!
Great video Huddison!!!
A landing you can walk away from.. 😁
Great tip re using NAV mode to follow the VOR, but that would make things too easy - thanks Aces 😎
Another winner, HUD. I’ve wanted to get more familiar with the C172 and Garmin glass cockpit.
Livestream next Sunday using VOR flying in the C-172 - see Discord for more details.
Going to put this one on my server very informative video for me thank you.
Thanks Martin, much appreciated 🙏
Very,very helpful. Thank you.
You're welcome.
Excellent presentation. Thanks.
Thanks Jake.
Magnífico.
Great video!
Think I link your Back to Basics series in our german community.
Either the guys learn / improve their english, or can use the (soemtimes funny) subtitles
Looking forward to fly with you again.
It'll be interesting to hear about some of those funny subtitles ;)
You can go to NAV mode on the auto pilot and it will literally track the radial that you set on the VOR1 Course, it will correct for wind even, which the Heading won't do.
Yes that will work well.
You still sound like Ringo Starr lol😊 I bowed to pressure, you broke me, resubscribed! Those radios ate daunting but now I know this 1000 a little bedder! Thank you sir
I wasn't aware you unsubscribed Steve😪
Decent tutorial, but as a pilot irl I noticed a few mistakes. You explained the concepts of radials and courses well, but when navigating from vor to vor, you just need to click the cdi button to center it. It is also a good rule to switch vors half way between. Not directly after. You can hit the cdi button on the g1000 and turn on bearing pointers to track distance. Also the if you hit the nav button on the auto pilot, it will track to and from vors, it will track better compared to using the heading bug.
Thanks, I'm always keen to learn 'real world' procedures and uses of aircraft instruments.
@@Huddison no problem, and I do hope I’m not coming across as picky or condescending. But just giving a few tips to make it easier for people to fly and understand. Great video nonetheless! Cheers
Thanks for this. I'd also like to know how to fly to an intersecting radial. That is, fly along an initial VOR's specified radial on NAV 1 until I reach a second VOR's intersecting radial, which I've set NAV 2 to. I know how to do this using the two NAV gauges on the C152, but how do you do it with the G1000 NXi?
I'll try and cover that in a future video.
I got a silly question
I understand to set the VOR frequency and all that but I can’t understand where to to move the needle (left or right) when the middle line that moves left and right. So in my understanding if the middle line moves to the right then I need to bank right so the middle line aligns with the rest of the vertical line.
That's correct and ensure that you have both the arrows in the VOR1 display circle (on the lines you are trying to align) pointing upwards.
Ohh the cdi button that's what I was doing wrong I trying to do it like gps lol I'm like why is wanting me to go opposite of what gps says 😅
Huddison, recently found your content it’s wonderful! Thank you so much. Do you think Xbox is the best way in terms of financially to get into the flight simulator world vs building a PC? Thanks!
Buying a cheap Series S is an excellent way to see if MSFS is your kind hobby.
My msfs 2020 same plane diff region in the word finds the vor but does t show the mid needle nor locks to it. Even at a 36nm
Maybe ask in our Discord about this.
Mr.Huddison...once on your vor radial, would you not flip on autopilot to stay on it?😅 Just saw the comment beliw. 😮😂
You can use AP to stay on course with a VOR.
Good morning
Do I need to fly away from a VOR in order to activate a second VOR guys?
Good morning. No, you can pick up on another if you're in range.
You can use Nav2 to set up a crossing radial from a second VOR. Crossing radials form intersections along the route you are flying from the first VOR. Before DME or GPS, these intersections were the crossroads and mileposts of the sky.
How come the name of the player on the fighter wasn't showing? Great video as usual!
Thanks & not sure why the name wasn't showing.
Wake turbulence at 18:11 !!!
Totally off topic: Are you from the Liverpool area? I'm Dutch so I may be completely wrong, but your dialect reminds me of the Beatles.
I was born not too far from there
