Why not just press NAV on the AP and let it align with the course you set TO the VOR?

The quick answer is I hadn't gotten there yet. I was taking incremental steps for those brand new to aviation and using NAV with AP would have been handled in a future video. But yes, that is the better way to do it for sure!
