I never understand how anyone could find them strange. They look like the most precious little delicacy.

I only tasted the sweet bean flavor( I think its the red bean?) and it was delicious( I'm pretty sure it was a moon cake because of the design)
True I’m Chinese so.. I mean mooncakes are common here tbh I’m not a huge fan of the taste ( my opinion) but it’s not strange at all
They usually have strange tastes like lotus so people would be be scared to try it saying its disgusting until they tried it.
Fun fact:
Moon cakes were made way back in ancient china, where a village was being ruled by a evil leader. the villagers wanted to rebel, but if the leader found out they would be executed, so they made cakes with paper messages inside them to communicate. on the lunar moon, the villagers gave each other the cakes, and they successfully rebelled against the evil leader.
Simply fascinating 🥮🌸
fun fact: based on chinese tradiitions, it actually came from people that shot down the ten suns. yes, i wrote it right. ten SUNS. but ya know idk bout your fun fact its cool tho :D
@Aadam Sumra you literally just copied it again
so many bots in the comments.
She said this in the video
I looooove the part when she said she shared not only the mooncakes to her friend but also a part of her culture❤️

Such a nice combination of story telling, recipe, and animation. This was cute to watch :)
My favorite moon cakes are the mung bean ones those hit different.
Lotus ones too
Ikr
I love mung bean
Oooh, those are really good
My personal favorite is mango
i made it before. way easier than this one on the video

To all who’s celebrating, Happy Mid Autumn Festival. 中秋節快樂!🥮🏮🌕
There’s different kinds of moon cakes in regions of China, and even some variations made by the ethnic Chinese in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. This is the Cantonese version, and the Hakka, Teochew and Hokkien dialect groups each have their own variations!
I don't think we have the salted egg version in Indonesia. I find mostly mung bean, chocolate, and lotus seed varieties.
Aulia Syifa Rodhiya the one in Indonesia also have egg yolk inside, its pretty common here in my city
@@monalisa31795 maybe I'm too lazy to go to the market in the morning and hunt em 🤣
中秋节快乐 to you too >_
Aulia Syifa Rodhiya the salted egg version is mostly influenced by the Cantonese. Since the TiongHua population in Indonesia are usually of Hokkien descent, the ones with salted egg are more rarw
Thank you for sharing a piece of your heritage and culture with us. Really enjoyed the story telling about the moon cakes.
Dorothy Herring hi
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival everyone!
Love from Vietnam!!!
The minute I saw the word moon cakes, I was thinking Wendy Wu. Then I laughed 😂 because you called it out and I was like, guilty! 🤣
James Darter hi
Lol me too!
Well, everyday I watch video. I'm so love your cakes🤤
@So Tasty grammar?
Bruhh
@Michael Mesarch not even the same brand💀
My mother, who is Filipino, shared these with me and they've been my favorite treat ever since.
I actually first learned about mooncakes from Sagwa when I was about 5. I remember thinking how beautiful and tasty they looked, and I still do at 23! 🤤❤😁
Me too! I think I was about 7 when I first learnt about them and anytime we went to a Chinese restaurant I would ask them if they had them lol even when it was summer
To me, I love moon cake since I am little and always excited for August to come( Lunar calendar), that’s when the autumn festival come and my grandma would brought some for us.
That show just appeared and disappeared so fast that half of us can't be sure it was anything more than a fever dream lol. I wasn't sure that I made it up in my head until I saw what you wrote "sagwa"
IM NOT ALONE I LOVED SAWGWA
I guess we could say I'm over the moon for these!
Passion for food hi
i have been in chinese immersion program at school for 9 years and my teachers have been so amazing to not only teach us how to speak , read, and write mandarin but to also share the culture with us. we would try moon cakes, make dumplings, practice using chopsticks, making paper lanterns, etc at our mid autumn festival class party. it is such fun! personally i am not a huge fan of moon cakes but they are so beautiful and such an iconic symbol of the mid autumn festival. happy mid autumn festival, everyone!!
I'm from a small town. And when I moved to the city there was an Asian market that sold moon cakes. Liked the name I thought it was intresting. So I tried it. And for the last 12 years I've been eating moon cakes. They are one of my favourite treats and I'm so happy I decided to try it.
How to make mooncakes :
Flour , Eggs, Clefairy, Moonstones, Cornish Pixie Dust ( Freshly immobulised by Hermione Granger)
@Dana A-N Um , Why ? Would u please take the time to explain ?
Dana A-N, it’s just a bunch of references to stuff. It’s not offensive.
@@blooop3126 Yes, I thought it would seem funny , especially the Cornish pixie dust part , no idea what dana a-n is thinking.
@Dana A-N Lol , noooo , first of all, I'm asian and also I love mooncakes so much that they are literally precious and magical to me , Sooo they must have magical ingredients tooo. ^_^ >_
Hold up, Clefairy as in the Pokémon? 🤣
This is the best CZcams channel love all your desserts 🧁❤️
Hey, this reminds of that time I went to a restaurant on the moon. The food was good, but there was no atmosphere.

My Chinese teacher used to give us some every year for the Mid-Autumn Festival
I’m making moon cakes for the first time this festival. It’s been so fun learning my husband’s family’s culture from Hong Kong. I especially love learning to make new food. 😋

I grew up in an international boarding school.
I remember one night lots of the Chinese students came to the boarding house I lived in to watch Doctor Who. I turned up as well.
That was the first time i experienced moon cakes. I haven’t had them since, they exist only in my dreams. Thanks for the recipe, can’t wait to have them again!
My wish for the world is that everyone will learn to enjoy the differences in humanity and the wonderful things that each culture has to share.
Thank you so much for this! I’m currently overseas from hk at uni so it’s the first year I won’t get to eat moon cakes with my family on the festival - your video really cheered me up!
It’s one of those videos you can’t help but smile after watching it. 🥮😊🥮
Moon cakes are classic! Kids love it What a great story 👍
They are so pretty. I love to hear about how foods came from different cultures. Thank you 😊

Never had mooncakes in my life but they look sooo good and piece of art😍
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful part of your history and culture. I’m sorry that you ever felt you had to be ashamed of something so beautiful and precious. And I’m thrilled that you are sharing the beauty that is Chang’e and the Moon Festival🌕
How to make mooncakes:
Sugar, egg, flour, cocoa and moon.
LOL
Halp I’m wheezing
Funny
Instructions incomplete, didn't mention you have to steal the moon first
Stars and sky don’t forget some comet dust
I love ❤️ watching tasty all the videos look SO YUMMY 😋 but I never make anything I just like for enjoyment 😂😂
Love this video! Love how you edited it, showing the process and then the voiceover with the history
I love the story about the Mid-Autumn Festival and her own childhood memories! I’m going to try to make these. Wish me luck!
I actually first heard about these cakes when I was a little girl from Sagwa the Chinese Cat (if anyone remembers that show 🤣). Ever since then I’ve always wanted to try them. They looked sooo delicious!!
It was like a fever dream to me. Until recently, I wasn't sure if I made it up in my head.
"Over the moon" movie made me to know the recipe of this mooncakes😅
I’ve always wanted to try one. They are beautiful and I think they look delicious.
Wow, these are GORGEOUS 🤩I also love this style of video! It was so cool being able to learn a little bit about her culture!

Gorgeous love 💕 so much delicious 😋 making these treats today Thank you ☺️
When you get that bite of the perfect balance of salted egg, filling, and outside crust, it's just 👌
The history you shared of your life growing up, your fear, your friends, the recipe, culture and a reminder of family and friends was a definite boost to tonight's mood, moving forward treat's ill make for mom tomorrow and the rest of this week. Thank you for sharing. It was a pleasure and privilege to listen to your video. Bravo!
I love durian mooncakes omygosh my mom made me mochi style: 冰皮月饼🥮 this year 🥰
I remember disliking them as a child (due to its flavour) but now I find then super tasty😍
Such a piece of art...
I love the story behind it!
It was the opposite for me lol but now I eat 蛋黄酥 (salted egg puff/pastry) for mid autumn festival because it also is perfectly round (which resembles the moon) and has the salted egg yolk inside:)
I don't remember when I first learned about moon cakes, but I remember thinking as a young child "this sounds and looks like the most delicious thing ever!" and I never thought until recently to try making them
Omg this might be my favorite tasty video, not only did they share the recipe, but they shared stories

The only reason I clicked on this video: I misread it as how to make moons...
Thank you for sharing a part of your cultural with us. Always fascinating to know where other people come from and what makes them, whelp them! Happy mid autumn festival!!!
There are so many flavours to try at my favourite bakery that sells them each year. This year I tried red bean, walnut, lotus, and rose. There were so many more flavours, including frozen mooncakes! Will try making next year.
Who else saw this after the movie 'Over the moon'?
I’ve been going to Koreatown and purchasing a ton of moon cakes lately. Those things are freaking addictive. 🤤
Ironically Koreans don't typically eat moon cakes for Chuseok, they eat this rice cake-like thing called Songpyeon.
It's strange. Does Koreatown really sell moon cakes? I don't know about the Korean-Americans' culture, but people like me who are born and raised in Korea don't eat mooncakes on Chuseok(Korean harvest festival). We eat songpyeon(rice cakes steamed with pine tree needles) like KniFee said.
There’s a store there called Tous Les Jours that sells them. In singles and a box set.
@@animechic420 Tous Les Jours is Korean, but also popular among Chinese people as a general "Asian" bakery. No doubt they are catering to their Chinese customers by selling it. But if you want to buy the most authentic moon cake, I wouldn't buy it from there. But I have no doubt it tastes good anyway haha
KniFee there’s also an H Mart there. I did see mooncakes in the refrigerated section, but I didn’t pick them up.
It's amazing how I watched this video thinking I'll learn about how to make mooncakes, and I feel like I learned a lot more.
One of the best videos I've watched in a while, stay awesome!
i made mooncakes with my friends this afternoon! they didn't turn out that great considering it was our first time but i loved spending time with them, especially bc we've been apart for so long
The first time i heard about mooncakes was in front Wendy Lu LMAOOO

Victoria Galarza Right! That’s literally the first time I ever seen or heard of them! Lol that’s actually sad. But so true
@@kekemcclure yeah and I always wanted to learn how to make them.
Yes me too they look so delicious!
Victoria Galarza hi
I don't understand why she thinks that people would dislike mooncakes
They are so beautiful 😍😍😍😍
I have seen them in chinese dramas in awe!!!!
It's more down to taste rather than looks. They can be an acquired taste for those who are from different cultures. I've celebrated this festival with Chinese friends, and while the mooncakes are gorgeous to look at, the taste is not quite to my liking.
@@LordRolfious ohh... ok 😁😁
I never knew what mooncakes were and how they look like these look like decoration pieces, much love to the narrator, chef and the production team specially the animators everything was perfect and so beautiful Thank You.
So so so good. I bought like 5 at this store and I lowkey cried eating one.
I always loved eating Moon Cakes growing up, though I honestly never liked the egg yoke in the middle for some reason and would always give it to my parents. My favorite part of the treat was the paste.
I learned and read the myth/story from the book ‘Starry River of the Sky’ (or one of the books from the series, I don’t remember), though it would be a different iteration
(If you really like old Chinese myths, legends, and stories, I recommend reading the ‘Where the Mountain Meets the Moon’ series, it has a tone of stories, and an enjoyable book.)
Her voice is too soothing and satisfying ❤️
You are so right about Disney !! I know them from there ! 🤩🤩🤩
This so nice and I also love the way she narrates her story and her lively voice makes me excited to learn about moon cakes and their history too! I haven’t tasted moon cakes yet but I hope I can buy some ❤️
