Does he ever call Bubblegum by her first name? In thinking about it, he’s technically undermining authority by calling Ice king Simon. It’s arbitrary cursed-artifact-based authority, but Ice King barely recognizes the name Simon anyway. Ice King is effectively his real name for most of the series. (Whether it’s his real title is even more debatable, but it’s worth mentioning if we’re talking about respect.) I’ve been thinking about this concept in a few different contexts. If some kind of curse literally changes someone’s identity, how do you respect them? In real life, (mental Illness cases, mostly) you need to meet people where they’re at to adequately help them. In fiction, it can be enough to say, “I know you’re in there,” and beat the curse out of them. If they’re harmless, is it necessarily morally ok to force them to become their old self? Is it ok to let them be their new self? We largely sidestep these questions by making the new identity pure evil or crazy, but I really want this concept further explored with a different character.

I remember when the Breezy one came out, I read an article that complained (or at least I think complained) about the symbolism. I don't remember if they mentioned all the kissing and pollinating or not (though they should have if they were being thorough) because what stuck out as weird was that they called the dream with Princess Bubblegum holding a sword "phallic." Now I can see that this episode really is about losing your innocence, maturing, and having those "wet dreams." The innuendo is much more obvious now, especially with flower kissing making your "arm" bloom and burst. I don't know if I appreciate the subtle effort for these messages or not because of the target audience, but I get it. Adventure Time is a coming of age story. 😅

I never understood why Finn and Jake wasted all their money. They never actually USED the treasure for anything, such as buying a new sword, or even paying for the armour in that one episode. Finn could have been using money for useful things like weapons all the time. Whenever they want to actually buy anything, they don't have money for it. When they have money, they don't want anything so they throw the money away. But here's the thing. Why get rid of ALL the money anyway? The tree can still hold SOME of it. The logic makes no sense to me for so many reasons. Also I can't stand Wildberry Princess for this episode. They've literally saved her life multiple times. What Jake did was wrong, but doesn't justify execution. And Finn literally did nothing, so I would be like "No, fuck you, I did NOTHING wrong and I'm NOT being punished". If any guards came after me I'd fucking kill them before I let them punish me for nothing. Or I'd just be like "Well, next time I'll just let you die then". I mean, a written apology is enough? But you were going to kill them before you even let them know that. Were they supposed to write it after they're dead?
