  • this topic is actually so personal to me i guess you could say. i don't post many videos at all about my experience in public accounting these days. i think it's because I've moved on from that part of my life. but i think this video provides good closure as to what happened exactly, and why i left public accounting behind so quickly.
    thank you guys so much for watching!! please like and subscribe :-)

    I am 4 months into a big 4.. And I absolutely hate my life here.. Actively looking for other roles because my mental health is taking a huge toll. Glad that you have manage to move on!

      That’s great that you know how to meet your needs plus what is/isn’t contributing toward a better life. Seriously, life is too short to be stuck in a miserable position. Please keep me updated if you can, excited for you!

    Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I'm currently in Big 4 as a Senior and I absolutely hate it. I've had enough so I'm starting to apply at other jobs! Thank you so much again for sharing :)

    I remember it was so hard for me to think about leaving Big 4. Luckily I had an amazing wife that supported me and encouraged me to think bigger than big 4. At the time of leaving it felt like a mistake, but now 7 years later it was a great decision. I earned more money and had more work life balance and peace. Congrats to you for choosing yourself and your health. You won’t regret it 💪🏾👏

    Schools push accounting due to high rate of job placement and good salaries to report. Good for marketing of the college.

    Agree with you. Just quit yesterday. Do have 2 years of emergency and a tentative job offer line up. Been in the field for 8 years, love work & people. Not hours work.

    Question: what do u mean by “industry”

  • @kevinvu1774
    @kevinvu1774 Před 10 měsíci

    I may not paid attention thoroughly through the video and missed something but do you think having a CPA license would be something nice to have while working in industry? Like serve as an advantage in opening more opportunities for your career in the long run? More likely to get hired? Etc . I have heard about people who have gotten a CPA but never even worked public, wanted to hear your input

    • @naomi-and-the-sun
      @naomi-and-the-sun  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Hey there! No worries, and yes I do think it is a bonus for you to have a CPA in the long run. You’ll have an advantage over other promotional candidates in my opinion, and it absolutely boosts your resume behind other candidates who don’t have a CPA, for instance. I quit my public accounting job within less than a year, but I was able to secure an industry job in a field I had no experience with yet. I worked with a lot of other people who had CPAs in the group I was in (revenue accounting for a midstream oil and gas company), and they all felt the same way. I hope this helps, but please let me know if I can clarify anything!

    I worked in private accounting for 15 years worked very briefly at a cpa firm , I definitely prefer just working directly for a company and just have one set of books to manage .

      After public accounting, I joined a fortune 500 midstream oil and gas company in their revenue accounting department

    How easy it is for International students (cleared CPA US in India) to pursue 1 year masters in accountancy in US and get a job in the US (I'll have 3 years work permit). They say, we'll make $60k+ annually as the starting salary. Based on your experience in the field, I'd appreciate your thoughts on it. All this sounds very lucrative.

    • @naomi-and-the-sun
      @naomi-and-the-sun  Před 10 měsíci

      I’m not well informed at all on this topic other than knowing a couple people who came from countries other than India but followed a similar path. You should be able to pursue the 1 year masters here in the US, especially if your goal is to work and live here domestically. I know that public accounting is the best route, but it’s hard work and you have to think ahead about what you’d like to do after public accounting and how you’ll get there. Sorry if this wasn’t very helpful, but I do hope things work out in the way you imagine!

    If you ever decide you hate this too government accounting is the holy grail in my opinion. We get all holidays off, pensions, and our fiscal year end is in October so you get to enjoy the holiday season. I work for USDA. I also wfh.

      Wow that all sounds really amazing! I’m about to start a PT jobs but I think next time if I ever go back to FT I will strongly consider government accounting since I think it fits my expectations for work-life balance more. Cheers for the recommendation!
