Still one of the best sequences in cinematic history. First saw it in the movie theater when I was six years old, and would see it 8 more times in the cinema. Never fails to give me goose bumps. Han Solo realizes there’s more to life than just making money, and for the first time in his life puts friendship and honor above riches and self-preservation, and comes back to surprisingly save the day. Obi Wan returns as force ghost (voice); which we take for granted now, but it was such a relief that Obi-Wan was not truly gone forever. Luke proves he's one with the force, and makes a one in a million shot without the aid of technology. Artoo makes the ultimate sacrifice, as Lei and Threepio wait anxiously. What editing. And that amazing Jonn Williams score! Well, I’ve been a Star Wars fanatic ever since. The ultimate happy ending to my favorite movie of all time (okay, tied with Empire Strikes Back).
While I'm sure Luke, Leia and the countless Rebels on Yavin 4 are all thrilled that Han Solo showed up to shoot down and disrupt the group of TIE Fighters chasing down Luke's X-Wing, I bet Biggs, Gold Leader/Gold Team, the first Red Team group of X-Wings, and even Wedge as well, would have appreciated his presence even more about 5 minutes EARLIER!! lol I just remember watching this squadron of starfighters leaving Yavin 4 heading to the Death Star battle, and then seeing a single Y-Wing and 2 X-Wings (Luke and Wedge I presume) - and the Falcon of course, heading away from the exploding Death Star .... all that remains from their initial squadron of 30 some fighters sent into the battle!
