I have been to the Philippines several times my wife is even from the PI. It will probably take a dictator to run such a country at least for a generation or so, as the tax rate and intrest is so high in that country and it has nothing to show for it. On top of that my waitress there had a higher education than I did and she was a waitress, and yes it will be a rough next 4 years for the USA. For the PI sake you better hope trump gets it, and for our sake I hope Hilary gets it. It will be interesting also to see if a lean toward China works out for the PI our if it becomes a province such as Thailand and other countries have become once they pivoted toward China and russia. Also I am surprised by the shift as western countries are the biggest employers of the PI. I wonder if tensions and trade deals shift if that will change as well? China has to many to employee within its own country, so I would not look to hopeful within that direction besides being allowed to fish within your own waters. Either way after the US election China will show slow economic growth as they have been cheating the US tax and exchange system for years mainly through loop holes in NAFTA.

    why I praise Duterte's decisions:
    a. he stands up for his country against big players. where did the us-phil relation bring our country after more than 80 years? and now, the US is scrambling on what will be their next move... you'll only know the value of something when you have lost it... (cliche' but true)
    b. he gambles with intelligent intuition... "your fish is my fish"
    c. he stands by his decisions... going against the status quo isn't easy... but it takes a man with big balls, conviction and sincere love for his country to do this... enough of this "comfort zone stagnation" ... this time, our people living in poverty may find hope and comfort, not only those wealthy ones.

I'm Pro-American but I have to agree with Pres. Duterte: the country has not made any significant gains in economics, infrastructure, and defense with its ties to Washington. Instead, the country has become too dependent on the US for nearly everything and it's made our progress stagnant. Truth be told, the ones who benefitted the most from our ties with Washington are the oligarchs. While I am not a fan of Duterte's foreign policy and demeanor, I'm all for the Philippines being more self-sufficient and less dependent on the United States.

The Philippines and America will never see eye to eye because they are from separate worlds that have different social norms and development.
China can sympathize with these issues because it's dealt with the same and are now just staring to enjoy the fruits of their labors. The Chinese people understand drug abuse (Opium Wars), they understand oppression (Century of Humiliation), and they understand human suffering (WW2/Red Revolution/Mao Zedong). All of these things the Philippines are facing.

We in the United States still support the Filipino people in democracy and free speech. We understand that your current President has attempted to sell your freedom to the highest bidder and we will always be here to support the Filipino people. We have fought together with you and died for your freedom, that will not change. We love our Filipino members of our familys and are happy to have over 3 million Filipinos here living with us.
China's puppet President will not destroy our friendship. We know many of you do not support this decision and will always be here for you when China attempts to move to restrict your freedom.

Thank you for the kind words.
Most Filipinos love America, and very familiar with American culture.
But I understand Duterte's perspective. When he saw the USA presidential candidates and think "I'm going to deal with either of these 2 for at least 4 years" and given the USA's misadventures in the middle east and after watching the US presidential campaign unfold, he thought "brother Xi Jinping, it's time to talk, I don't want my country to be like Syria."

The US put investments on China and Vietnam more or less 10years ago and taken for granted of the Philippines because of our workers salary, land and electricity power rate too expensive plus the corruption in BIR and Customs greatly affect the process of their business applications.
Now the US and other countries ignoring us, the President Duterte seek good fate and opportunities with China and Russia and encourage them to put investments in our country and thereby boostering business partnership to profit both countries which help also the Philippines to be a progressive country in Asia.
WPS was the other issue that can be held thru a brotherhood dialog and diplomacy. Both US and China wanted to secure the China Sea. The US hardly push China back and that is why they wanted to use us to provoke China into war.
We cannot put the lives of every Filipinos and Philippine economy in troubles. If the US help us before with their investments same as they gave to China before, as if US considered us a true ally and our previous leaders are not corrupt these things will not be happened as it did in WPS.

Duterte says he wants the Philippines to become more independent, but he turns around and makes the Philippines more dependent on another foreign power--and an autocratic one at that. He tells Filipinos to stop having “beggar mentality,” but is it not begging when he goes on a Chinese Communist news program and asks for help from the very regime that’s been bullying and threatening his country for the past few years?
And no one else see this man’s hypocrisy?
But since China didn’t question his war on drugs, I guess it makes it alright to align his country to that of an authoritarian state? If you think the Chinese care about the Filipino people because a few of them have Chinese ancestry you’re fooling yourself. The Japanese, Koreans, and Vietnamese have Chinese ancestry and they’re not friends. They, in fact, get into regular spats with one another. All the Chinese Communist Party wants is to turn the Philippines into a buffer state--a second North Korea where China is the Philippines’ sole ally and thus, it’s one true master.
Obama didn’t insult Duterte, or falsely accuse him. He simply advised Duterte should conduct his war on drugs without encouraging vigilante justice, or denying his people their rights. Duterte answered him with a curse and weeks after Obama dropped the issue, Duterte, without ever apologizing, attacked him again.
He is the sole aggressor in this made up conflict between the Philippines and United States; he alone has imagined and escalated this rift between the two countries. He’s not a political genius like so many of his supporters claim. He’s just a man who can’t handle the slightest bit of criticism and men like him can only lead their people to ruin. But let’s hope the Philippine people come to their senses before then.

China and Philippines can be friends, as long as Philippines do what China wants, then they are good friends, China takes Paracel islands and more if they like, so yes, they will be good friends, as long as Philippines do what China wants, if they don't, then "friendly China" will take more islands. I hope they become very good friends.

China and Russia are together but truth be told the countries that are following them are all failing or at war. Philippines have the ability to be the new talk of the town in Asia but that takes time and power to stand with friends and not countries that uses money in friendship.

and you're supposing is the usa is not using the philippines through arms trade? truth be told, the usa wants to maintain global dominance and it does not care about inflicting war on foreign soil and dragging innocent people into wars, those of allies included. and china on the other hand is mostly neutral on global affairs and one of the initiators of non-alignment movement and i'm not sure why you would group china and russia together.
