Tiananmen Square Massacre (1989)
Vložit
- čas přidán 18. 07. 2019
- Tiananmen Square, in the heart of the Chinese capital Beijing, has been a place of enormous significance in modern Chinese history.
For seven weeks in the spring and early summer of 1989, it was the focus of unparalleled protests by students and workers against the political and economic system, leading to a brutal government crackdown and international condemnation of the communist regime.

True.
My mom actually was one of the students who went on June 3rd, but her feet started to hurt in the afternoon cause she was wearing heels so she left to go back home to change her shoes. I met my Chinese wife in Canada the same day as the crackdown started. Her father, an academic, was due to speak that day in the square. Plans were changed (he had also done his eight years re-education in the camps). the family has lived in Beijing FOREVER. (you don't move and in history, were not ALLOWED to move). China lost a lot of talent by going ballistic.
I find it extremely ironic that the army that caused this massacre is called the People’s Liberation Army. It should be renamed the Taiwan Annexation and Protester Crackdown Army (TAPCA).

My uncle was there on the square, he never talks about it but most university students at that time heeded the call and left after things began to accelerate.
I went to the sites of protests in Shanghai this spring festival holiday while visiting my family, the place looked completely devoid of any signs of protest but there were no police around either.
I only managed to drink to these brave people, who catalysts the ending of quarantine and loosened the chains on Chinese people. Hope a new age would begin soon.
Maybe your uncle doesn’t talk about it because it never happened ?
@@avus-kw2f213 Actually most educated people in China knows about the event, the CCP wasn't able to censor as effectively back then and there were hundreds of versions circling around China at that time. The ones my family 2000kms away from Beijing heard was that over 10 thousand died immediately on the square. One of my aunts wanted to go but was pushed down by my grandma who feared that the students were used by a larger scheme, akin to the Red Guards. I honestly hope you are joking.
@@iamyourfather9391 those people are not brave you that you are allowed to protest in China. And also the quarantine has been slowly getting loosened since 2021.
@@thereallifetold I don't know if you have seen the police taking people away or the bruised young people participating in the protest, but that is an insult to every single person with the morality to reject the CCP. The moment they called out "罢免独裁国贼习近平“ they knew death was upon them. If you come from within the firewall and wishes to defend what you think is right, then open your eyes and hear what the CCP did. If you are a random person on the internet who wishes to defile the memories of those who fell, then you do not deserve any bit of human right you now own.
I am not brave, therefore I can only type on the internet, but at least I can still long for the day when I can finally shed my cowardice and stand to honour my ancestors who gave away their lives for liberty.
@@iamyourfather9391 we can all talk about what China did was unnecessary and over the top the United States has done many worse things to people within the country and outside of the country. I don’t have rights no one has rights it’s just a power game the rich get richer the poor get poorer that is how it works in the United States. In this matter honoring these people is silly because protesting over a small matter is not brave or strong willing. China is not right for these actions but compared to other country’s especially the United States this doesn’t compare at all.
I believe this was one of these rare moments where history could have gone either way. If moderates had prevailed, if the army had refused the orders, or soldiers defected en masse...
Does that happen? People aren't naturally brutal like this, you have to pay them to do it. Given some military obedience training and military pay most will shoot into a crowd of their own citizens when told too.
@@CodyAdams-pf9un It's not often, but it happens from time to time. Famous examples are the French and Russian Revolutions. A more modern example was in 1989 in Romania, where the military mostly sided with the rebels and against the Communist Party and its leader Ceaușescu.
In general, the people can not win against the government while the military stays loyal. If the military is split, or steps aside, then revolutions can succeed. Usually that happens when the army loses faith in the government due to severe economic suffering, sometimes with a military defeat.
Another thing - the Tianmen protest was among the first the first in a large wave of protests against Communist governments. If it had happened a few years later, after the Soviet Union, along with a ton of other Communist Parties, then the protesters may have been more confident, and the soldiers more hesitant. But in june 1989 I think none had fallen yet, and it gave the CCP a sense of security.
