Ultralight Bass Fishing With a MICRO SWIMBAIT!

  • I took out my ultralight fishing rods to do some smallmouth bass fishing in a small river… Again. In this episode, I only used a small paddle tail swimbait on a light jighead. I basically drifted it in the current and waited for aggressive little smalljaws to come hammer it. Micro swimbaits can be an excellent way to catch large quantities of both large and smallmouth bass. Also, make sure to watch out for the bonus fish I caught!

    Fishing on an otherwise tight schedule... very interesting perspective for your Friday shows theme, Ethan. First thing that comes to mind is fly free while you can. Spiderman's Uncle Ben said it best: with a great wife and enormouse extended family, maintaining house and yard, flower, vegetable garden, tons of remodeling projects and a host of chirping or barking mouths to feed comes great responsibility. Or something like that. 🤯🤯 Have fun! Don

    I've always used an Alberto knot for braid to leader. As long as it works then it works!

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Před 4 lety

      Mat - this is a great question! Happy to help here...
      Fluoro can definitely be a main line, however I have a lot of twist issues on spinning gear. Braid helps get rid of that. With regards to the diameter differences, that is why I like the Double Uni. Simply run the braided line side through about 7 loops. Run the fluoro through about 5 and you will have a more balanced knot. The fluoro is much thicker so using less loops allows it to match up better with the braid.
      Hope that makes sense. Ultimately you need to use what you prefer but I personally love braid to fluoro (on bass gear). I will be switching this ultralight to nanofil / fluoro leader next I believe.

      Thanks for the feedback! I totally agree with how you’re using UL fishing (it definitely helps in high pressure areas). • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Před 4 lety +1

      Good question Colby! I have a Daiwa Presso (above budget) and a Shimano Sojourn (within budget). Both of these rods do well for me! The Sojourn is only offered in the 5’ length unfortunately but I love that little rod. Never fails! Let me know how else I can help; I feel like there are some combos at Bass Pro or Dicks which felt pretty nice as well but I can’t recall the brands.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Před 4 lety

      I have used 7’2 spinning rods in he past and they work well! But it all depends on how you are fishing. If you’re in a kayak or from bank, I don’t necessarily think you need a rod that long. If you’re in a boat, it could be beneficial when you’re fishing deeper structure with something like a drop shot!

    • @carutheron4727
      @carutheron4727 Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for the help man.I fish primarily from the bank , so would you recommend something around the lengh of 7 foot?

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Před 4 lety +1

      You can really do whatever from bank but yeah I like 7’ as it works well in virtually all situations. The 7’2 will work fine as well but I just find the longer rods are a bit more of a problem when you’re trying to get through a lot of cover.
