Lyrics:
Sometimes you’re better off dead
There’s a gun in your hand and it’s pointing at your head
You think you’re mad, too unstable
kicking in chairs and knocking down tables
in a restaurant in a West End town
Call the police! There’s a madman around
Running down underground
to a dive bar in a West End town
In a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
In a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
West End girls
Too many shadows, whispering voices
faces on posters, too many choices
If? When? Why? What?
How much have you got?
Have you got it? Do you get it?
If so, how often?
Which do you choose
a hard or soft option?
(How much do you need?)
In a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
In a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
West End girls
West End girls
(How much do you need?)
In a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
A West End town, a dead end world
East End boys, West End girls
West End girls
You got a heart of glass or a heart of stone?
Just you wait ’til I get you home
We’ve got no future, we’ve got no past
Here today, built to last
In every city, in every nation
from Lake Geneva to the Finland station
(How far have you been?)
And a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
A West End town, a dead end world
East End Boys, West End girls
West End girls

I'm not sure why, but I always feel like 80's music represents a more futuristic world than the world turned out to be.
it's hard to notice it when you are actually living it. 😉

Why are 80·s songs sounding better as each year passes
Weil es diese tolle Art von Songs nicht mehr gibt
It's the survivorship bias effect- you're less likely over time to even remember or have exposure to the bottom 50% of 80's songs. The 80's become less associated with the copious bad music from the 80's and more with the stuff people still want to listen to.
Because music sucks more and more every year now.
NOSTALGIA 😢
Soul , Spirit , love , Light 🎉
There's something about 'West End Girls' that embodies the duality of the 80's-a mix of carefree energy and the anxious anticipation of a world on the verge of transformation.
The end of the cold war and the beginning of the digital and computer age.
Amo as musicas do pet shop boy
It's almost inevitable. Opposite sides of the planet for the men & women of the 80's. Too this day the artists from abroad have my admiration since the 80's.
💯
😮to me it's an existential cry for help and hope in a world that constantly tries to forget u. It takes me back to my old hi school and that neighborhood. It had one dive bar country no less. Always wondered how the people coming out of that bar got on in life. The bar was called Lucifer's then later Lil Nashville
The synth bass on this song is freaking WOW
Also that Emulator trumpet solo
@@hilltophouseIt really puts the proverbial "icing on the cake" in the song.
"The trumpet solo in this version was played by Hague on the Emulator. According to Jacob, "it took about six hours to get the trumpet to sound genuine, purposely playing wrong notes to make it sound more 'jazz'".[14]
I'm thinking maybe it's why none of their live versions have the trumpet in them.😒
This is a hip hop song in disguise 🥸
Synth bass is ALWAYS fantastic lol.

I remember when they hit No.1 on Top of the Pops and I wasn't sure of the song at first, as it seemed so different from what was in the charts.
So much sweetness, soulfulness, a song hinting of alienation in society. Sometimes the newer music seems to have no soul.

The 80s were the best decade to live through. I feel sorry for everyone who missed out.
So you mean 99.999999999999% of all people that have ever been born? Yep, I'm sure your tiny decade is eminently enviable by the billions of humans that have ever lived...
@@Spiralogy Hey numbnuts. You must be a liberal. My comment wasn't to be taken literally. It was just my opinion on the years of my lifetime. Stop embarrassing yourself with such douchbaggary.
@@vess2067 lol, I think you are just sad you got called out. Lots of dumbfucks like you expressing that same opinion and it's quite cringey. MAh 80s, BEsT tIMe EVeR
@@Spiralogy Naw. Chumps like you just need to be schooled once in a while. Now you're all butthurt about it. Have a nice day, chump.
Truly.
What unbelievable presence Chris Lowe has in the video without a word uttered... Brooding, deep thinking, observant, the quiet epitome of cool... And you know you love it when he lets loose a bit at 2:27. Mesmerizing, evocative of an emotion I can only feel that is beyond language.
What a great description
@@miguelfuerte7498 Thank you Miguel, that is kind of you to say.

Perfect in every ways❣️
I was a freshman in high school when this song came out. If i could pick one year to listen to music for the rest of my life it would be 1984! All the young people that love 80’s music is a testament to how great music was in the 80’s!
This song really aged well.
Unlike most of my friends
I played this song on a jukebox a week ago on a Friday night. I saw a lot of women swaying back and forth in their seats. I’m assuming they were west end girls.👍🏽
@@g_g6729 You're laughing. His friends didn't age well and you're laughing.
@@zackzallie8735 It’s a joke. USA!

Theses tracks truly represented what the the 80’s was all about, there was so many things happening then. The beat and the artist singing to end off the track is beautiful.

I grew up in the 80's and surely wanted to visit London after experiencing the great music coming from there. I'm sure I missed out, because I truly doubt I'd experience the same vibe
