Not at all. It didn't win the Puskas and the goal of the tournament, Australia didn't get anything from this match and was knocked out in the group stages. Nor is Tim Cahill a global superstar. So there aren't really any factors that could help the popularity for this goal but people still remember it and talk about it 4 years after it was scored.
@@mmaclipsuknow How is a brilliant goal related to the team not progressing. It is either a goal worthy of Puskas or not and many many fans rate it the best of WC 2014. Both Tim and Jame's goal were rippers and only one can win, but there is a disconnection about the goal and The Roos end result.

Late response but I really liked Greece this World Cup. Shame that they had to lose to a 10-0-0 defensive Costa Rica side in the Round of 16. The Dutch served them right the next round.
MrThejoker6000 No way. A good goal but an ungainly, painful looking belly flop. The Cahill goal was majestic and it's really difficult to volley a ball first time as it drops over your shoulder.
gwangi64 Haha shut up man you know how hard to is to lob Cassilas with a header? Volley isnt that hard I see it all the time but a header from the 16 meter over the keeper with a amazing crossing nope!

My favorite goal of all time, there might be better ones but for some reason this one stands out to me. The way it bounces of the post, the way he just cannonballs it with his first touch. Amazing
Beautiful goal for sure and the post being hit in that way usually results in the ball going into play not into the goal that makes it a little more special imo.
GOLAZOOOO!!! De lejos el mejor gol de ese mundial... en uno de esos partidos de los que no se espera mucho... pero que terminó siendo UN SEÑOR JUEGAZO!!
i dont think people understand how difficult that goal was to pull off. he just made it look easy. timing, posture, the right amount of power to the kick, aiming and recieving pressure from the defenders. absolutely brilliant goal. legendary.
Goal of the tourney for me. James' is close, but the power, placement, and timing of this is universe class. To hit it in such an unstoppable spot with the outside foot before it even touches the ground requires unreal concentration. I'm biased as an Evertonian but still.

James Rodrigues was voted the best goal of the world cup, but this one, objectively, was way better. James' stops the ball with his chest, and then smashes the volley. Tim Cahill catches the ball in the air after a 30 metres cross, on the wrong foot (he is right footed) , and hits the sweetest volley ever. Technically much harder, and just as beautiful.
