    At the end of the day Tom it may be cheap oil but the fact you change the oil every 10000 miles is better than someone doing it every 30000 and using expensive oil

    • @Alexander_l322
      @Alexander_l322 Před 4 lety +2

      Cheap oil is fine as long as it’s correct type for the engine and changed at the correct intervals. It’s when you use the wrong oil and or don’t change it on time.

    • @dj_paultuk7052
      @dj_paultuk7052 Před 4 lety +2

      Its not cheap oil. Tripple QX is made by Shell Oils.

    • @VAX1970
      @VAX1970 Před 4 lety +4

      That is not actually true, the better the oil the longer it lasts and the less damage it does. You could use cooking oil and change it everyday, and it would kill the engine dead within a year.

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 Před 4 lety +1

      change oil often, unless it all long highway miles. I stay with 3K miles (USA) regardless of oil type/claims. because I'm very hard on oil, short trips, hard driving, dirty conditions, blazing hot heat soak, cold weather short trips = major condensation and acidic oil....
      they all want to sell you a new vehicles more often, it just doesn't work out that well in the long run (advanced socialism) end results are products that do not last and cost ten fold more then their value..

    • @yunggolem4687
      @yunggolem4687 Před 4 lety

      @@throttlebottle5906 Engines and oils have different oil change intervals and the type of driving matters as well as how old the vehicle is. 3000 miles is a semi-reasonable rule of thumb, but it is largely arbitrary. A car driven 80% highway, 20% city with quality full synthetic will benefit much less from 3000mi oil changes. 5000 or even 7000 may be the point at which the lubricity additives and detergents and base stock have fallen below the allowable performance threshold.
      Of course as cheap as oil is and as easy as changing oil is for most cars, there's no reason to try to get another 50% lifespan out of your 20-30 dollars worth of oil.

    So true what you say about it depends on what the agents are like, I work for one great agency where they allow me to maintain my standard of quality work and don't quibble about price. Some agent are not so helpful.

    Massive thumbs up for not marking up materials and rather using a transparent hourly rate. Just wish I had a local electrician doing that, I'm tired of always getting a huge shock on estimates because of seemingly random markups - I've seen everything from 5% to 1200% up from what the materials actually costs.

    • @mcfrosty8739
      @mcfrosty8739 Před 4 lety

Are you sure that's not just the entire price including labour and cert which carries along a great risk that sparks factor in in to their price?

    In my three common tradition. Oil like many things I suspect has a limited number of manufacturers and a multiple number of re-branders and labels with slightly different additives. I know this is true for a lot of things from China and food products where you’ll have a store brand that's most often a re-brand.

I see it the same as buying quality sockets & switches for how much more they cost over cheap crap its not worth it the saving.

    You might have a look at Fumoto -- they make oil drain valves you can install when changing the oil and the next time, you remove a clip, (optionally attach a hose), flip the valve open & drain the oil without the mess. EZ Oil is another company. Both might be available in the old dart on Amazon.

    Euro CarParts own brand oil (Tripple QX), is made by Shell Oils. So its good quality oil. It even meets the MB Diesel oil specs which are quite hard to obtain. Fair play that Naomi changed the oil on her van, a good "Have a go" attitude. Its not hard after all. And if you did it yourself then you know its actually been done. Some places like QuickFit etc use oil sucktion from the filler tube. So they dont need to drop the lower engine pan. I personally frown upon this method as it can leave more of a build up of carbon lumps in the sump.

    RE mark up on materials. You have to put some on just for the accounting time. 20% minimum. Let alone replacing shit fittings etc. Average out how much it cost all in to replace crap on a call backs over your total materials cost and add that percentage to it. Refunds on shit doesnt cover the agro on recalls, recalls are a loss. The mark up is insurance.

      I never add cost to materials, I get my timber at a discount and also pass that onto customers as well. I prefer to get a decent wage for a good days work. My daily rate never changes if a customer says too high i just say ok no problem bye

    "YTS" - showing your age there. 🙂 (The only person who is entitled to object to the conversation is Naomi, She so clearly does not and you two have a firm understanding. Good for you both.)

    Those are some cheap Edison sockets for those expensive fancy lamps Luminaires or fixtures what do you wanna call it?
    Personally a bulb goes in a lamp and oil lamps are called lamps, but it’s not that critical that I have also called bulbs lamps and lights is's interchangeable as long as the context indicates what you were referring to.
    But I digress what was I coming here to comment about, oh yeah those are really cheap light sockets over here in the US I have seen those but they’re not as common usually there’s a meeting screw fitting for the neutral in the socket. although we do have some cheaper plastic fittings around namely for utility lights without that arrangement that are a pain because the threading is just slightly off making getting the bulb in them and out of them really hard.

      @moto Line In the main it was cheap labour, that's what Margaret designed it for. At 16, kids were forced into it if they didn't go to college or get a full time job. Those lucky enough to be successful, is more a reflection of self, rather than a God awful cheap labour scheme.

      "YTS" is just shorthand for "The trainee" (Either between tea duties, or instead of tea duties if they can't be trusted with boiling water).

    Random question. The scissor lift that they have that you use for your van, do you know what one it is?

    Coming soon. The full uncensored and unedited episodes. On todays episode, naomi gets on her knees, gets well oiled and plays with a big wrench. She gives the van a damn good service. 👍😇

    Surprised that you don't mark up material. Traditionally material mark up pays for the overheads and your labor charge pays your salary.

    Enjoyed the video, I just think if u didn’t service your own vans and got the mechanic to do it then you could be making money instead of everyone being there. If both of u guys were out on a job, then you would be easily covering the cost of a mechanic. Not throwing shade at you though I do enjoy all your videos and respect you as probably one of the best sparkies around
