Hey everybody! Thanks for watching this video on, "Ranking the Most Popular Songs of ALL-TIME". I recently stumbled across a list of every song that's been certified diamond by the RIAA. I knew I wanted to make a video on it but the actual list surprised me. It seems crazy to me that I didn't even know a song that's sold over 10 million copies // gone 10x platinum. But anyway, my girlfriend and I went through the list, gave our ratings, gave a rating for icon status/individuality/etc., averaged those out and here we are! What would be your top song/s? singles didnt rlly go diamond before streaming, instead for the most part it was only albums that did. now that has been subverted (with the exception of adele) as a song 'only' needs 1.5 billon streams across all platforms in the US to sell 10x platinum but an album needs 15 billion. one is disproportionately more achievable than the other.

I don't thInk he wants all of them to be deep, just authentic and interesting. But I do disagree with him that That's What I Like was ranked lower because Bruno Mars wasn't taking risks. I don't think all pop song need to be completely innovative but just originally enough to sound authentic and not seem like you are just joining the masses.

Uptown Funk is definitely an amazing song. The way Ronson mixed in those bass vocals is just awesome.
Mark Ronson said that Bruno did about 80% of the whole song, including producing. He said that Bruno kinda gifted him the song, so ronson could have it on he’s album.
@@IMindfulOracle this isn't true though. Mark worked so hard for uptown funk, following Bruno on tour so it took 2 years. Mark says things sometimes that make Bruno Mars fans happy. Like the doh doh doh, Phil Lawrence suggested that and Charles moniz (audio engineer) made a bass sound for it and mark (in an interview) said it was Bruno's idea.
I don't even know why they fell out, is it because Bruno got sued so much for plagiarism? When it was his song? Or that Bruno added so many songwriters to appease them for a song Ronson, mars and Jeff bhasker painstakingly made from scratch? Why? I constantly wonder about this. Mark is awesome I hope he works with Bruno again soon.

This videos’ takes absolutely blew me away. For seemingly being rather analytical of music, these rankings did not line up with what I expected from this guy. I had to check to see if this video was posted on April First. Everyone’s got their opinion, just very surprised these ones coming from Alfo.

Also bohemian rhapsody came out about 50 years ago and is one of the most streamed songs
idk about the others, but beyoncé doesn't certify her song and albums, so that's why she's not on the list. I'm pretty sure that halo and single ladies are elegible for diamond status

A great memory of mine takes place at a party of which I knew the host really well. I have no idea how it came to me but a decent stretch into the night I asked him to put on Bad Romance by Lady Gaga and he was looking at me funny at first but put it on anyway. By the time the first chorus hit, the entire room was just yelling "oooOOOOoOOOOOH OH OH CAUGHT IN A BAD ROMANCE" and jamming to a 10 year old pop song most guests thought they forgot about. Kind of weird saying to people that you’re a sexist if you dislike bodak yellow. We could just say that about any song on this list and throw out accusations of something serious when people disagree with us. I might be taking it too serious but as someone who actively tries to combat sexism in my university and in the world, I just don’t agree with it. I also just feel bad for guys because they always receive shit like this and there is so many genuine guys out there.

Glad Bad Romance is at the very top of the list, while very few would argue its better than Bohemian Rhapsody (most people wouldnt argue any song is). It still is one of the most fresh timeless pieces of music even outside of Gaga’s old persona
I feel that King Crimson is a band, deserving of a diamond track. Their discography is severely underrated, and some may even argue their songs are BETTER than the likes of Bohemian Rhapsody.
The Post Malone hate is real tho... Also, to say Love the Way you Lie has a soap opera-ish premise, to then just go and praise Somebody that I used to Know for the same is mad silly. This list is bonkers, but, yeah, it's impossible for a list like this to not seem like bs to no one. Good video.

If it's catchy, then for all the wrong reasons. Everything about that song makes me cringe so hard, from his Squeaky Baby Voice, to the repetitive chorus, to the whiny ass synths, to Luda's corny ass verse, that song has consistently been one of my least favourite songs period.

I genuinely think Bohemian Rhapsody is the best song ever made. It's not my personal favorite (though I obviously love it) but I think it's just so objectively incredible. It's a feat of music with the vocal layering and the storytelling that gets you to feel for a murderer and the theatrical, operatic feel that on paper should never have gone diamond like it did. I just think it's such a feat of musical ingenuity and it's so emblematic of Queen as a band, I can't think of another song that is quite as flawless and ingenious.

There's something poetic about Queen being in the first spot and Lady Gaga in the second!!! both masterpieces!! Bad Romance is my favorite pop song released on the XXI century, i can't get enough of it's electro dark industrial goth production, and it makes a bold statement about how the music industry treats women.

There's an extremely hot take on party rock anthem and a placement that aged like expired milk with sicko mode, there's also Baby, which is sickeningly high up, and a few tracks that vaguely imply you would've been sleeping on the couch if you didn't rank them as such. Otherwise, I'd say the top 7 seem pretty bulletproof as good hits and there's a decent gradient from garbage to solid throughout.

Disliking Bodak Yellow does not equal sexism. I can't stand Cardi B, but Doja Cat is one of my favorite artists. It's all up to personal preference.
And that's forgetting the fact that many of the people that hate Bodak Yellow were fans of Nicki Minaj or some of her songs and that many went on to be fans of Megan thee Stallion and Doja Cat. This is without considering the other female hip hop artists from previous generations.

Unless the persons reason for disliking a piece of media is because of racism or sexism, there is absolutely no connection. I personally am not a big fan of female rappers, but that because all of them I’ve heard so far use the same modern rap style that I dislike. I also don’t listen to much contemporary pop. I dislike many male rappers and artists for the same reason. If there is any female rappers that deviate from the current rap style I’d be glad to listen to them. It has nothing to do with gender, I’d listen to a robot rap if sounded good.

Bad people can make good music. Tons of other good rappers have also done horrible things, like Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Freddie Gibbs, etc. Though i do agree that you don’t need to like hers, simply because music is subjective and you don’t NEED to like anything. There shouldn’t be any artists which are “wrong” to dislike

I'm a huge fan of Blurryface and Trench, and Stressed Out was released when I was in high school, so there's a strong personal connection I have to it. Given that, I think it should be ranked higher. On a separate note, I like the way you did the ranking. It's good to get other perspectives, but it's even better when they have a different background related to the topic. In this case, your girlfriend being from Berkley, and the topic being music. It's always nice watching your videos. 😄🎵

I think the main problem with this list is as you mentioned in the intro you tried to suppress your own opinion in the name of objectivity and by failing to do so you made a mismatched list with no basis
Mind blowing that songs like Rolling In the Deep, Get Lucky, Shallow, Umbrella for name a few aren't on the list (also Gagnam Style, i don't remember seein on the list). Also they are really a very few Diamond songs, thats crazy.

I agree wholeheartedly, it is my favorite song on this list. He hates a lot of these songs for being "cliche", but not everyone is like him and not everyone has heard every popular song 100 times. Many people either come from other cultures and aren't exposed much to English-language pop music, or weren't exposed to music in general in early life, and so why would they care about cliches?

Look I love post malone but everyone’s getting too upset that he’s quite low on the list. This vid is literally comparing a huge amount of songs, taking into account that they’re not innovative but why they are catchy. As someone who’s not American, I can tell you posty was not topping charts in other countries for long, not to even mention older generations, so this list is not super wrong all things considered.

I didn’t come into this video hoping my taste was validated but it was an interesting surprise. Bohemian Rhapsody and Bad Romance are my two favorite songs ever, and they are basically neck and neck for me in terms of which is better. Most days I think Bohemian Rhapsody wins, as you said, but also Bad Romance’s chorus is freaking perfection. Like I hear it and I thank wow thank Jesus we have Gaga, that song is perfect through and through. So incredible that both songs have the same initials (BR) and are sung by Freddie Mercury and an italian lady that decided to name herself after a song Freddie wrote. Fucking fantastic top two song, it’ll take a lot for any song to top these two for me.

Considering up until the top spot all the diamond certified songs have been from the 21st Century, I was really struggling to work out what would top Bad Romance. Then it all made sense 🖤 Bohemian Rhapsody truly is in a league of it's own and I think the moral of the story is release a song with the initials B R.

I'm very much an Eminem fan so i am very biased on this. I don't think he took into account or rated Not Afraid high enough on that 3rd scale. Recovery overall was Em really getting into that pop/rap ballad that would redefine his sound for a while. It also is an important for his career relating to his drug issues and his relationship with his fanbase. The nostalgia, innovation for the artist, and impact factor are huge for it.
