    Thanks for the super easy to follow demonstration. I plan to use it for tracing individual wires from an 8-pin connector under my dash of my vintage car and out to their "terminations" at various relays, fuses, switches, etc.. Your demonstration starting that the 2:00 mark is what I needed to see to feel confident such a tracer will be useful. Most instructions I see online and on YT indicate you need to clip BOTH alligator clip to something - like clipping the red alligator to +12V at the battery or something. If all the various tracers work the way you show at 2:00, then I'll buy one and go with it.. Thanks again.

    A short circuit is an electrical circuit that allows a current to travel along an Unintended path. An Open circuit is when there is No continuity within a wire. Continuity is the continuing of conduction within a wire or circuit. This device will find continuity or Open circuit, depending upon the setting.

      Thanks BDOG. I've never seen a freon sniffer. I had to have the gas company come out and use a sniffer once in my old garage. I came home from work and it reeked of gas when I opened the door. The guy that came out said the concentration was so high that I could have blown up if I had used the opener or turned on the lights.

      @@BruceLyeg 《☆》I love cooking with gas but having a house plumbed for gas terrifies Me. We had 2 helos & 2 fixed wingers that were A/C equipped. My boss loved shopping at the military surplus depot. He bought a case of refrigerant sniffers & a case of Fluke BN77 multimeters which were a steal. They still had all 4 sniffers but a few multimeters disapeared over the years as people retired or left the job. I turned mine in tho I miss it ☻

    • @BruceLyeg
      @BruceLyeg  Před 5 lety

      If we didn't have gas in the house I'd be frozen solid or poor (well, more poor). Electric heat when it's down to -30c half the year would be crazy expensive. It took me awhile to get used to a gas cook top but now that I am, it's great. Not that I do a lot of cooking, the wife is a great cook. Plus it's nice to just flick a switch to turn the fireplace on. I love wood burning fireplaces but we actually didn't use the one we had in our old house that much.
      No doubt Fluke is the MM to have. There's a reason that people who use them for a living rely on Fluke.
      I watched a video the other day about a guy that owned a electrical company. He said he pretty much had to buy two of everything when he bought stuff for his employees. One for when they "lost" it and another for them to use at work.

    • @BruceLyeg
      @BruceLyeg  Před rokem

      Not a silly question at all. Unfortunately you do need both parts. My plug on my truck does that every year. It's usually either the plug is corroded and needs cleaning or a wire has broken somewhere between the trailer plug and where is connects to the trucks lighting system. It's almost always close to the plug on the truck.

    Okay, I've recently lost 110 power to my shed that is supplied by plugging it into a receptacle in the house. I buried the cable in PVC as just a temporary solution for power ( been over a year now, my bad) I checked the receptacle in the house and it tests good. I've got a million different projects going on and I seem to be getting very confused lately, just getting old I guess. But the question; how do I go about testing with this device? I'm guessing shut the power to that particular circuit and connect leads and probe from the receptacle to the switch? I apologize, I used to be able to figure things out fairly quick on my own. Appreciate your advice.

    • @BruceLyeg
      @BruceLyeg  Před 3 lety +1

      If you're running a buried extension cord in PVC from the house to the shed, you should be able to use this device by connecting it to the prongs on the cord in the house to the outlet in the shed. Just a simple continuity test. No need to apologize for asking questions, it's how we all learn. Also, I'm only 50 and my memory is already terrible, I can relate. Another way to do it would be to run an extension cord from the shed back to the house. connect one end to a battery of some sort and use multimeter to check for continuity
