I think Blind and Trip are genuinely underrated cards. When unupgraded they're basically better versions of Neutralize and Beam Cell, and when upgraded they're some of the only cheap AoE debuffs that don't exhaust. Both very solid buys if you already have a Toxic Egg.

Cantrip is terminology originally from D&D, and then used in Magic the Gathering. Glad I found your channel, great stuff!

To add to this: I've heard the term 'cantrip' within Dominion as well. It's basically a 'free card' that replaces itself, still gives you an action and generally has some other effect (like extra purchasing power or deck manipulation). They tend to be (very) good, but as far as I know, are more small-scale and supporting.

I discovered it in Baldur’s gate 3 😄 But that of course has its roots in D&D.

Loved the video. Its nice to hear thoughts on these cards, as some of them are rarely talked about. The video has inconsistent volume levels though. Noticeable around 10:30, and 13:30. Looking forward to more informative Spire videos.

The volume spikes were caused by having to convert the video format of the original recording of this because someone (Baalor) set their OBS to record in the wrong format! Oops. It'll never happen in a future video again, but I can't fix this one now. Glad you liked the content!

Colourless cards are definitely one of the most underappreciated aspects of Spire! Really cool and helpful video :)

They're something you appreciate more as you get more experience with the game. I used to just ignore them but now they're an integral part of many of my builds.

23:07 an interesting inconsistency in the game rules, which favors the player: when Panic Button says "from cards", it _excludes_ Power-Buffs (like Metallicize). But when Rupture says "from cards", it _includes_ Power-Buffs (like Brutality). I believe there isn't any way to know this except experimentation or looking it up online.

21:20 of course, _beware_ that Blasphemer (take 9999 damage at the start of your next turn) was not tagged in the game data as a "debuff", so Panacea won't block it

I bought madness to enable an infinite with eruption, vigilance, and rushdown. It's probably most useful for cases like that.

I've been watching your Twitch content for a while now. You have a gift for explaining your plays, picks and, paths. I'm glad to see you transitioning these skills into bit sized you tube video's.
A video on pathing and a video on the recent patchs buffs/nerfs are things I haven't seen from other content creators. I think that's something your viewers could be interested in. :)

I never thought of the opportunity cost on cards like Finesse and Flash of Steel. I always viewed them as super powerful because it's free block or damage that basically doesn't take another card's spot since it replaces itself.
But, thinking about it, yeah. Aside from the one event in act 3, and I guess the last shop of the one. Asking yourself if that 2 block is worth the gold is a good question

Cantrip as a term comes from Magic: the Gathering which itself loans it from Dungeons and Dragons (a cantrip spell being a spell which you can cast without using a spell slot).

I feel like Enlightenment is one of the most underrated cards in the game. Maybe it's because I have a tendency to take a lot of 2 and 3 cost cards.

    Is Blasphemy a debuff?

    • @elim9054
      @elim9054 Pƙed 2 lety +4

No, mechanically it's a buff so you can't get around it with artifact or pellets. The damage is blockable with intangibility or a buffer, though. It'll also obviously spend fairy in a bottle or lizard tail if either of those revives you.

Cantrips are 0 level spells in D&D that can be spammed and are of very low effect, so your terminology was on the spot. You still seem a little uncomfortable with the format but keep to it. Huge value for simpletons like me who are still struggling with Ascension 6 ;-)

"Card that draws one card" is the Magic the Gathering meaning of cantrip though, which is what he's referring to I think
