I ran into Richard Simmons in the late 80's at the airport in Atlanta. He was flying to Baltimore (BWI) as I was, to do a talk show in Baltimore. I had a coach ticket that someone else was seated in. That guys ticket had my name on it too. So the Flight Attendant put me in an open 1st class seat which is where I first saw Richard as he boarded. Then after we landed we talked about a half an hour at the baggage collection area as I waited for my sister to pick me up. They had lost or misplaced Richards luggage. We talked about his Deal a Meal program that he had back then. He was exceptionally kind and friendly. When my sister arrived, I introduced him to my sister as my good friend Rich. He gave my sister a hug and a kiss. He truly couldn't have been kinder.

Richard Simmons was at my local mall in the 70s and I met him. He is so nice! I’ll never forget it because my necklace clasp was in the front and he moved it to the back and said “ Make a wish”

Come on. He's been out of the public eye for ages. More than once he asked to be left alone. Honor that wish. Leave him alone.
I don’t think merely saying that erases all the years he was a public person. If so, all celebrities would use that excuse.
Well, the fact is he owes no one nothing, you don’t have to share all your life’s business with everyone and, everyone regardless of who you are your entitled to your privacy. And, the fact is when, the time came he did share that with the world, which he didn’t have to! Then, he went on Dave Letterman again and, was one of his guest his final season and, again told the world the exact same thing after Dave Letterman hounded him again about it, again he owed no one nothing! Just because, your a public person, famous/ celebrity and, lived in that world doesn’t mean when, you decide you chose to live a private life doesn’t mean every so often you owe the world some kind of explanation! Many celebrities and singers go off into hiding and, don’t say nothing and, yet people go snooping around and the media tends to be cruel and, will often paint a much different picture, but, even when, and, lot of them that are living still that celebrity life not so, much as music stars but, movie stars and tv show celebrities tend to come on these talk shows and media outlets and, like. Reality tv, they tend to make up these completely fake stories, not to say all do. But, Richard Simmons is human and, cause, he’s human he even is kind enough to not be rude and stand -offish to his fans and, just says, enough to let you know he’s okay, so why can’t the world just be happy with that and, let the man have his peace!

Of course we all settle down, get married and have children and that consists of even more “going out” only with taking kids to school, working, picking them up, school events, sports, weekend plans, going to the games of the sports they play, movies, vacations, out to dinner, etc.
By the time my second one left for college, I became a true blue introvert.
I hate being around people. I deal with clients when working and love my job but when I’m off, I will ignore even a text from my boss unless it’s an emergency. Leave me tf alone!!
The short movie was kind, Painted him as a sweet and caring man
After the podcast came out he said he wanted to be out of the spotlight. People love him and adore him but respect the man's wishes let him live in peace and quiet.
They are respecting his wishes. He's not involved. He won't have to do any promotion. He can go on living his quiet life.

Even more so w/ them doing this anyway despite Simmons publicly stating he has not authorized a biopic about his own life. At this point, it's their narrative, not his. I had the opportunity to briefly meet Richard Simmons at Neiman Marcus in Boston in 1992. He could not have been more gracious, generous and humorous!
Well I do wish people would start respecting people's wishes to live their life in private.

There are *people* and there are celebrities/public figures. There is a difference. When *people* understand the difference between the two and the laws that govern, one will understand why they can move forward with or without his "permission."
I agree, to make this against his wishes is incredibly disrespectful.
The world tormented him into hiding. Now everyone wants to praise him. But he wants his privacy. I just wish for him that he’s secure, happy, and healthy. And if he wants to be left alone, that he gets that.

Besides as he got older he came out on the media outlets and, said, it was time to step away after all those yrs and, he was going to live a more private life and, even all those yrs ago he didn’t even know anybody that. Then, again the year Letterman went off he was on one of his last shows and, again he stated he was living a more private life and, he still didn’t have to speak on the subject but, Dave Letterman hounded him like he had to share his business to the point it made him uncomfortable. I lost over 40 lbs with his sweating to the oldies. He and I would work out in the morning before my kids got up. My weight had become an issue. I was so busy doing for every one else, I forgot how to do me. One of my friends (I still don’t know who)reached out to Simmons about my weight loss and she sent me a personal autographed photo. It was my trophy. This man is a legend. I will never forget how he inspired me. ❤️

It’s bad enough they’re doing it without his blessing but to call him a Court Jester ?? This man actually HELPED PEOPLE. He flew to hospitals and gave love and support to total strangers who wrote him letters thanking him. He stayed in touch for decades with his extended soul family. Not too mention he managed to work in show business for nearly 50 years and never once got involved in any scandals. Let the man live his life in peace.
I’ve heard Richard call himself that because he used laughter to get people to have fun exercising. He’s talked about it in interviews. The court jesters were there to cheer up the King. It’s not an insult. Richard brings us joy and laughter. He lifts people up.

@@paulan7218 The Wolper Organization, a subsidiary of Warner Bros, is making the film. Why don't you get their reps on the phone and tell them, strongly, how much you disprove of their project? Let them know Simmons isn't on board. I'm sure it will have a profound and lasting effect.

The makers were highly respectful and didn't make Richard Simmons as some drama queen throwing wine glasses at staff. Besides this all that Pauly Shore has got going for him, considering some of the other movies he has been in.

He is being left alone. I don’t see what’s wrong with a beautiful film, with a beautiful sentiment, to honor him. It says a lot about the positive impact a person has made for them to be honored while they are still alive.
I am disgusted by Pauly’s blatant act of ignoring Richard’s wishes and now Richard is having to be dragged out of his private life to let everyone know that he never approved of this.
Well that's ridiculous. Nobody ignored his wishes or asked him to drag himself out of his cave to tell people he doesn't approve. He doesn't have any say in the matter..they went off public domain where his past career was publicly documented. Nobody cares what he is doing now. If someone doesn't want to be seen or in the current spotlight ...why would they immediately run to the spotlight to show disdain? Foolish.

So it's "wrong" to take public knowledge and his documented highly publicized career and make a movie about him .. ? Nobody is trying to document what he is doing in his current work or private life. Nobody cares. If he wanted to remain unseen and unheard then why was his first instinct to run to media outlets to claim nobody asked his permission. He obviously doesn't understand his career was public knowledge and can be used by creators to tell that story without his permission.

Few things are more dishonorable than an unauthorized biography, particularly when the subject is still living. And it's hard to think of a graver insult than to be portrayed by Pauly Shore (who I guess has a heretofore unforeseen compulsion to jump up and down wearing skimpy little shorts and a fright wig).

I wish him all the best. Unfortunately, anyone's public career is game because you put yourself out there. I would feel the same as he does. Studio should consider sharing the PROFITS with Simmons, common sense, and I'm sure he'd be fine when the check was in the mail, so to speak.
I'm quite sure the creators know the laws and royalty clauses. Did Richard Simmons pay royalties to every musician and copyright owner for the songs he used throughout his career? It is a 2 way street ya know.

Okay ..nobody is stopping him. Not sure why someone so bent on privacy would run to the media to make claims that his permission is needed to further document an already public past career. His current life and right to privacy isn't the focus at all.

There is a quick statement out there that Pauly gave when stopped on the street. He flat out says that it's a good opportunity for him to get back out there. So wrong & poor Richard is now along for the ride.

As a 12yr old in the early 80s, it was natural to put his show on and watch all the fun. Everyone watched and enjoyed. Well maybe not certain men afraid of themselves. But everyone else did.
He wants privacy. Give it to him.

He should be honored that people adore him enough for the interest in his story. And no one needs your permission anyways. I am excited to see Pauly Shore play the role.
Simmons is a wonderful human being whom has done immeasurable amounts of good, he's helped thousands if not millions of people! However, I have never understood why he chose to withdraw so suddenly. The 2017 podcast highlighted that even many of Richard's long-term friends were cut off, when something like that happens its' only natural for people to be concerned and curious. If he only he uploaded the occasional photo, or wrote a post that was undeniably him (everything on his social media is just generic spin clearly written by a PR person). If he's retired then God bless, but that doesn't mean you begin to shun the world completely. His fans and well-wishers are really not asking for much at this stage. I hope he decides to come out of hiding at some point.
He did his thing and had his career. He's older now, wants peace and to just relax. I don't blame him.

Looking back to the early 80's, I remember Richard Simmons' interview with KQRS's morning radio personalities, Tom Bernard and Terri Traen!
After the interview, Terri expressed how his publicist said before the interview started, Richard asked him if KQ's morning crew were going to be nice or if they were going to make fun of him, like so many other radio personalities did.
Remembering his publicist's comment made me realize how bad Richard Simmons was treated throughout his career! And for what?
IT'S A WONDER WHY HE WANTS TO BE LEFT ALONE IN HIS RETIREMENT! GOD KNOWS HE DESERVES IT!

Richard Simmons had a exercise show to. One day he had disabled ♿ people his exercise show. He also had book and VHS on Disabled people. I always watched his Exercise show every Morning Until the Exercise show was no more on Tv.

Thats why I always strive to never care on what people think you cant please everyone!!!

Richard gave of himself everyday,people even called him at home. Sometimes a giver has to stop giving for a while & replenish. I would work an outreach job, go to my home to care for my husband 3 sons, and 2 elderly parents with major health issues. Just to pull in my driveway to see clients from my day job , who needed help . Sometimes you need time to yourself in solitude.
They didnt do Whitney Houston or Elvis any favors with the movies about their lives!🙄

I’m really curious to see the biopic and I think Shore is perfect for the project. Richard doesn’t want to be involved, so let him be.
I can understand why Simmons would want his privacy, but if someone wants to make a movie about you than you don't really have much say in the matter. They have the freedom to do so.
