The one and only Richard Simmons visited the show today to tell Ellen all about his workout DVD, "Sweatin' to the Oldies Vol. 5," and even did a demonstration for everyone.
As a child of the 1980's I grew up watching Richard Simmons and his antics always had me laughing my ass off. The best thing about him is he has a caring heart and does not give two shits about what people think about him. His energy could light up a town. He seems like he is on drugs but he isn't. He is just high on life and I love him.
Taylor Anstrom same. I can't help but to adore this dude. He cracks the hell out of me, hard not to pay attention to talking serous or just talking crazy comical nonsense
After watching The Court Jester, and seeing this recreated, I’m just obsessed with how much heart and soul Pauly Shore put into his character. Richard Simmons was an absolute gem of a human who only wanted people to feel good about themselves and each other. He encouraged kindness, compassion, and hope. And he radiated positive energy constantly ❤
I love that he's a happy fun loving guy trying to share his happiness with the world and now in heaven...his words are right..some would be mean..but he's just plain nice..thankful for people like him..the world needs more like him...miss him..Rest in peace Richard Simmons

I’m big guy 6’5 300lb when I was young I was bullied but I will say Richard Simmons really made me feel good about myself. The world needs his positivity and love more than ever.

Omg such nostalgia from the fitness guru himself; loved it! I even had the privilege of actually meeting him at his workout studio slimmons in Beverly Hills just before it closed down; I took a class immediately and I’m glad I took it as the classes were always packed; he acknowledged and appreciated everyone who took his class right at the start but the fun part was meeting him after the class; here’s one thing off my bucket list already which was taking a class with him! :)
I can't even think of any "fitness gurus" who have been as successful and popular since Simmons. Jillian Michaels? meh I don't like her. So many of the workout videos today show ridiculously muscular people giving unrealistic expectations of what to achieve. Richard Simmons was one of the few people who actually tried to make diet/exercise kind of FUN, which, let's be honest, is not that easy.
Omg. This warms my heart so much becos it reminds me of the time when my grandma and I used to exercise every morning with RS when he had his morning exercise show. Even as a kid I knew he was silly, but in a way that was was fun and genuinely sincere. Always enjoyed those mornings with my grandma.
This scene was the inspiration for Pauly Shores film short: Court Jester in which he portrays Richard Simmons. But to me Pauly Shore is missing Richards heart and radiant energy. Go watch that and then watch this and you see a big difference. Pauly Shore barely smiles in his version. The scene backstage from the Ellen Show which is in the short film the real Richard would have hugged and befriended the young man and invite him to his workout studio! Richard Simmons kindess and generosity holds no bounds. 🕺🙏
