The Endless Adventure sweden is such an amazing place taken care of by some of the most environmentally conscious people on this planet. We travel there 3 times a year just to get in touch with nature. I live on the little island of Gozo so we do miss the massive forests. You just made me book our flights back up. @patrickbrookings Pƙed 4 lety +11

That's true, but you need to be careful. Like the previous reply said, it can take your breath away. Many people drown because of that sudden shock, and the fact that your body starts hyperventilating.

You can also get your extremities (feet, then legs and arms) used to the temperature before going in all the way - less of a shock that way. But I have to be honest, I usually don't get in all the way straight out of the sauna!

I agree with you about adding water over the hot stones! I can't breathe 120+ degree DRY air. I *need* the steam because without it I feel like it is literally baking my lungs with every breath. But I do like a slightly cool plunge (25 to 30 C) after a sauna. It's refreshing, exhilarating even, but it's not so cold it makes me fear shock or cardiac arrest.

And you do not go wet into a sauna after been in the water. Because Sauna itself makes the body evenly warm, and wet zones like wet bathing suit prevent that. End after the first sauna, you get a cold shower or dip for 20 to 30 seconds in the cold water. This, if you can do it, it's so worth it; because when you go through with it, you skin wil prickle like thousands of needles in it and the endorphins are shooting into your system and you get a rush of happiness into it. Ir us a fantastic way to strengthen your immune system too. But do not wear a wet bathing suit or so , your body will not get the even temperature and it will not have effects people are going for into a sauna.

I come from Finnish ancestry and I grew up taking regular saunas. What you did is commonly called sauna/swim and it's honestly the BEST way to enjoy a sauna. (BTW-the Finns pronounce it 'sow-nuh' not 'saw-nah'.) The way you do it is to warm up in the sauna by tossing water on the rocks on the stove until you get a decent sweat going, then jump in the lake (don't dawdle getting it-just jump in quick and get it over with), back in sauna and a few more tosses of water on the stove, lake, sauna and steam, lake, repeat if desired. My grandparents swore 3 times was the best but I've done it as many as 5 times. The sudden switch from hot to cold and back is supposed to be really good for you and by the time you are done with the 3rd time, the water is usually divine feeling. :)

Why not relocate them? Mosquitoes attack and try to feed on you. Never had that problem with a spider. The rule of nature seems to be if it's not trying to eat you and you're not trying to eat it--you just leave each other alone. Maybe find a peculiar beauty in it and its part in our incomprehensible and amazing ecosystem.

What a great adventure, and to learn so much also. Would like to give advice on one thing. When you canoe you should be kneeling never sitting. You have more control of the canoe and if anything happens quickly you won't wobble back and forth, that's when you end up flipping it over. So kneel and put your butt against the seat and go.

Wow amazing travel... back to the Iron Age. You two are brave. I have to say I am never gonna do that but it was lovely to see that some people enjoy it... and out of the sauna straight into the lake or roll in the snow and straight back in the sauna is the way to go... if you moderate it it does kinda hurt.

Best Adventure by far. Thought you couldn't top the Bunker experience but you did, you really did. You both look so happy with just the little things around you. Learning fire skills is so cool. So amazing the lake water is cold at the END of Summer Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. PS Googled Kolarbyn Ecolodge. Just to let people know, there are also larger accommodations for families and groups.

Thanks so much, Chris!! We're so glad you enjoyed this one as much as we did! We were pretty nervous going into it, because (as I'm sure you've gathered) we are not the greatest wilderness people, but Kolarbyn's so well organized that it honestly felt more like glamping. You actually don't miss electricity or running water at all 😊

The thing with sauna bathing. You stay in the sauna and pour water on the stones until it gets so hot so you get warm in the core. Then you go out and jump into the water. Because you are so warm you wont feel how cold it is. Then you go inside, stat there four 20 minuts, take a beer and then jump into the water. Do that for 2 hours and you will sleep like a baby!
