The Atlanta "fresh start" gold rush is ending. In truth, Atlanta is perfect for young black influencers, entertainers, business folk, and professionals who are invested in being in the mix. But when you realize beyond parties and illusions that there's barely any black scenes for regular, everyday people and that you will "pay to play" (and pay a lot), many end up more lost than they were when they first arrived here.
Isnât that how most major cities are tho. Theyâre fast and full of parties, designer clothes, etc. If u wanna calm and peaceful lifestyle then yea living in the heart of Atlanta is not the move. Best to move to metro
@@ATLzay : yeah I agree but not even factoring in a peaceful life, ATL isn't the black mecca we think it is past nightlife, beauty and business. Theres no black arts district, no black fashion scene, there isn't a significant black hobbyist or nerd scene. The black arts scene is decent but even that comes with navigating through a lot of bs. A white person can get up on a random Saturday, go to a plant sale, wine tasting, boutique opening, arts show, bar, nature trail, and trivia night, with little to no effort in finding these events. Black people host these things too but way less consistently and conveniently--but you'll ALWAYS find a black networking mixer, woman's brunch, cosmetic class and of course club/party. I don't see that as black mecca, because it's only half the story of the people here. To get the most out of living here you have to be a certain type of black person if you catch my drift.
@@ATLzay it's not, DC I would say is the complete opposite more business than party with a larger professional scene
Well start oh scene for what you want atlanta is the best place for black visit eventbrite atlanta is the only city that got kickball league for season people in Decatur I love atlanta I came way up in the atl first 100.000 maybe that's why of love atlanta

Iâve lived in Georgia since 2016 I can say Atlanta natives are so sweet and genuine. Itâs like whereâs Waldo finding them, but they are really good people. Itâs the people who are moving here that are fake, mean, and chasing a lifestyle thats out of their means.
I've been here since 96. Now those were the days. The true atlantans that I needed a translator for. That's the atlanta I miss
NEVER. Never have I EVER heard this statement before......lol....I'm like a therapist being a Lyft driver, and even Natives tell me there's a problem with Cognitive ability and actually caring in Atl..... We come here to make things better, and HAVE AND DO....We're the ones with the smiles on our face, We're giving that outstanding customer service, WITHOUT an attitude, and it's genuine, your NOT gonna get on "our nerves" asking questions........lol.....

This is why hence I said I stay to myself and mind my business. Iâm very introverted so I can careless to talk to ppl

This is the comment right here. I have been here since 2007 and I am financially better and more comfortable than some who live that fake lifestyle. I stay away from the fake.
What's not being said is most of these people may not even be born and raised in Atlanta.(she did mention this later in the video) I am actually born and raised in Atlanta, and can barely run into someone born and raised from Atlanta. If you were around true Atlanta residents I believe the experience would be different...but then again most of us born and raised in Atlanta try to stay away from Atlanta now lol...we on the outskirts, like Marietta, Kennesaw, Acworth...Conyers, Stockbridge. But hey...
Another GA peach here and I felt all of this! Our city has changed so much its scary! Everybody moved here thinking they were gonna get a better outcome and received the total opposite because everybody came here with the same mentality which took all of the opportunities etc. If these ppl would've grown up here around true Atliens their experience would've went differently.
Im not from here (moved here at 16) but everyone I talk to is and I hate it tbh. The city has had it's identity erased in the past fifteen years.
@Erica. You speak the truth. I'm retired living in Stone Mountain but grew up on the Westside and SWATS and anyone who grows up in Atlanta will move to the suburbs when they're grown. Some people move back into the city when their parents pass and leave them the house if they owned one. Too many young blacks like this woman come here to do the same thing. Acting, modeling, singing, rapping, clubbing, hanging in Buck head and Lenox. Us locals hardly ever go to Buckhead and Lenox is basically a tourist attraction and a hangout for young folks. CZcams videos about Atlanta that are made by people who aren't black are completely different because they come here educated and get good jobs. They don't come here for that entertainment bs.
Word
The problem is that there is this stigma that Atlanta is the place to make money, glitz, find a man, job...childddd.Thats all gone..if you weren't born here , or here in the 90s or early 2000s it's a wrap. Atlanta is not that place.
As a born and raised Atlanta nativeâŠI can tell you that all of these problems are related to the fact that so many people have moved to Atlanta in a short period of time.
Typical answer from an atlanta native. If a person say anything about atl, people from atl try to deflect the truth. So many masculine women, and feminine men in atl, itâs like gender roles are reversed. Nothing but finessing, no morals, values, integrity, dignity, etiquettes, or self respect in atl. Itâs literally a facade city. Stayed there long enough to know and see atlanta fake asl

I've been living in ATL for 7 years. After I finish Ultrasound school, I'm getting the heck up outta here. Going back to Alabama because it's too many fake people here and it feels so isolating. And the "friends" that I do have, are just people that come and go, I'm not super close to them.
How is it in Alabama?
Just move back l to Alabama after moving to Atlanta in 2013, and itâs a relief. Atlanta fake asl, people always trying to finess, and get over on you. You canât find love, and the dating scene is shot to shit and this is facts
I moved to atl in 2013, and just move back to Alabama. Thereâs no morals, values, integrity, dignity, etiquettes, self respect in atl. Itâs a facade city that people move to, and become made up characters. Itâs weird

yes u can't move to a hot spot... it's a problem everywhere.
Most ppl (especially young) who move to these type of cities to make it in "the industry" always seem to get disappointment. Ppl who move to cities to have a normal life and dont care to be in the mix tend to be happier - clubs/lounges/industry events are almost always full a fake people. Im glad im out the age group of still "trying to make it". im content with my lowkey tech career. I make my money quietly and peacefully
THAT PART. I think you're right folks are trying to make it like another LA or Vegas or Miami and yeah that's what comes with that unfortunately
That goes to show you how Social media is a big influence on people. They see other people moving to Atlanta, selling they asses a dream just to be disappointed.
đŻđŻđŻđŻđ€·đŸââïžđ
That's what it is! For example, I make very good money, have a nice home, raise my kids, and stay to myself. I noticed that many here try to showboat and if you are not a showboat type of person they mistake you for broke or weaker.
I can say this, I went to ATL years ago for a whole other reason, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 (back home, today). I can truly say what people express about it now was definitely not what I experienced then. ATL people were southern hospitality personified. I genuinely remember those people not just because of what my family and I were going through, but the love shown I just couldnât ask for a better welcome. I believe what you and others are likely experiencing are transplants which sucks the whole cultural vibe from a city.
I did the same fact same thing, to be honest, Atlanta turned into New Orleans. We had a lot of influence into what Atlanta is now.
I LOVE New Orleans. Atleast it's has culture and soulâïž
As an Atlanta native, I can agree with the rent prices. That's what I loved most about living here, that it was affordable. But once the internet opened up and people knew what were paying and landlords got wind of what other states were charging that's when they started jacking up the prices. But I will say, that even though it's high for us, it's still a lot less than other places so I won't complain.
Exactly but it wonât be less for long. Not sure why people think moving here wouldnât increase the prices. Migrating to one city increases the demand, and when the supply canât keep up with the demand, the prices increase lol we all learned this in high school! People still want to move here, but theyâll get here and two years later itâll be $2,500 rent tbh
My wife desperately wanted to move to Atlanta about 20yrs ago. I vetoed that with the quickness. I saw the ratchetness happening back then. One word: Freaknic. Any place that would condone that was not going very far and not a place I wanted to raise my children.

I donât think itâs about the city you live in, I think society as a whole is different, thanks to social media. So itâs difficult for young people now a days, glad Iâm older.

@Question everything Iâm sure you will get me day soon. Be prepared to spend a lot of money to enjoy yourself. Or you can act like a real New Yorker and walk around get a slice of pizza and enjoy the energy of the city, thatâs cheaper lol
People buy houses and start businesses in nyc all every single day so no I disagree about âyou wouldnât be able to do thatâ.
You can own a home and start a business anywhere in America. Just have to have good problem solving skills.

@@dubreil07 True people start businesses everyday in every state. I personally find it easier to have a business in a state where you can get more space for your dollar and my business requires many deliveries to my home and shipping to customers. Depending on oneâs business like myself a state with less crowded streets and plenty of less crowded UPS/USPS stores works in my advantage, I would have had a more difficult time in NYC trying to find parking to go to USPS or worried if my packages will get stolen left outside.
Running a business is challenging enough and I donât need the challenges of a crowded city added to my plate.

Girl⊠I was living in Chicago, making a good living, living in a highrise with a view.. and I moved back to my mommas house in Jacksonville.
The vibey, movie quality of some of these cities is nice for a visit⊠but it aint worth it if you cant get ahead. Im saving up money for a humble house here in north florida and staying put. This economy is too hard to keep up with.
How did you like Chicago?
@@andreclark2472 I love Chicago, loooooooooooove Chicago, I couldn't recommend it more to young professionals who want higher income, reasonable rent for a major city, and also adventure. My life got better because of Chicago, I walked more, made more money, became a more active, social, happier person. If you live in Chicago, and rent, and ride public transit - life is sweet.
I ultimately left for my own reasons. City life started to drag on me after 5 years. I missed my family. The winters were no longer charming. I bought a car and spent well over $1k in 2 mos between parking tickets & tires repairs (because the potholes there are just negligent and dangerous at this point), among other stuff that happened like a homeless person tried to open my car door at a red light. Life there gets harder and more expensive when you actually decide to settle due to sky high taxes for literally everything.
I was raised in Jacksonville but left for college and the military. I bought a house here before I retired but I wasn't sure Jacksonville was going to be my forever home. After living here for the last 7 years I just haven't found anywhere else that I could see myself living. Itâs not high rise luxury but itâs nice. I really love living in my community.
As far as acting, My GodâŠIâve had the opportunity to do things and work with people I never dreamed of. I started off doing background just to get experience on set. Itâs important to know what to do and what not to do on these multi million dollar sets ( the lingo used , how to actively listen to a director, who does what , how filming works etc. ) Iâve worked on tv shows like Black Lightning and MacGyver. I worked for months on my favorite tv show , The Walking Dead. That is still the most amazing and fun experience of my life so far. đŻđŻ I remember telling my friends back in VA âOne day, Iâm going to be on that show. But here in ATLâŠitâs completely different. When I moved here and started meeting people , they would tell me âYouâre so consistent. â At first , I was like âWhat the heck, does that mean ??â đ€ But I soon found out. Iâve met people who are liars, fakes , never text back after weeks but still consider yourself their âfriendâ. đ©I have high friend standards just like you and Iâve had to drop more people than Iâve kept. I just think itâs a lot of distractions here and like you said, people are so busy trying to keep up with an âimageâ⊠they forget to actually do the WORK it takes to get the lifestyle theyâre perpetrating.
One the flip side , Iâve met some really nice people as well ( coworkers , people on set etc. ) A lot of the people I work with at my 9-5 have successful side business like bakeries, food blogs etc. Theyâre really out here doing it , lol. But itâs few and far between. I act, I make music and Iâm also an author. But the difference isâŠ.I donât spend time talking about that stuff a lot because Iâm busy actually doing it , lol. I donât wait to stay here forever but Iâm not leaving until I get whatâs mine.
i felt ALL of this! my exact sentiments đ€§đ€đž
as an atlanta native, even i want to move sometimes bc of all of the gentrification in the city. when i was looking for my apartment now, i looked at a complex i lived in two separate times as a kid right on peachtree st. a two bedroom that was two floors of living space was $810 a month, and now it's damn near 2k there for a one bedroom and completely outside of my budget - and that's in the span of like 10 years. it's so upsetting, esp bc transplants don't respect the communities they're moving into at ALL. roommates can make it easier, or finding places to rent that are in older buildings, etc too. that's what i had to do
Everything you said is true. I moved to Atlanta from NY to take care of my parents. If they werenât on this planet I would be living on an island.
That part

U are on a island

She's beautiful!!! I lived there for 10 yrs and it was really nice. I loved the vibe and most of the really people. I may move back one day.
Preacher Baby!! Let these ppl know it's a difference between guys in the Aye and guys from the Aye.. Thanks for you clarity
I lived in Atlanta for a week and couldn't stand the games ppl play like u said. Now I'm in Austin TX love it here.
And way yyyyy cheaper
I was literally thinking about Austin đł
@@AngellK Some people like it some don't these days; Its been a 'hot' city to move for a little while. Make sure you listen to some of the haters on Austin as every city has em and they speak some truth (there is a small homeless problem but thats about it to me) But I like the people and that's what is most important to me. I wouldn't go to Dallas (too much concrete for me), but Houston also looks nice (never been but know a few people who live there and love it).
How much is the rent?
@@AlieshiaTV you can find a nice place for 1400 but could go as low as 1000 if you live like 25 mins from downtown. I probably exaggerated how much cheaper it is but basically it seems like the price i was getting a room for in atlanta is the price i can get an actual apartment for here.
I lived in Atlanta for 7 years before moving and I am coming back now. No one is from Atlanta anymore; you are seen as foreign if you are from there. I love your videos because I am trying to move back. I refuse to pay a certain price for housing, but I also work from home, so my location doesn't matter. You can be successful in Atlanta, but you must be strict about who is around you. It's extremely fake in Atlanta but that's because people are trying to make it to pay this high A** rent/mortgage. I think you should stay. Don't let bad experiences stop you from living your dream. If you want to move to Cali, do it. You can always come back. I have moved over fifteen times in my life so I know a lot about different places and experiences, but Atlanta has always felt like home to me and it's time to move back. Listen to your heart and gut.
you wanna move to Cali be prepared to pay double đ ATL is cheap to me coming from the bay
We full dnt come bak
@LaJoya J. Have you lived in Raleigh,N.C. or Charlotte,Nashville or Huntsville,Alabama? I grew up in Atlanta most of my life. I am not in the entertainment industry or have a real good paying job. I want to relocate from Atlanta.
DONT COME BACK....WE ARE FULL....GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO LIVE
Rent in CA is x2 of ATL and the people are just as fake đ
Good luck to you, sorry for the disappointment. Hope you find Happiness wherever you go, everyone deserves that.â€
I feel the same! I moved to Mobile, Alabama from Boston and I am ready to run home. Ppl are friendly and the weather is good but besides that thereâs nothing to do. If I do do stuff itâs a long drive out.
Iâm from mobile. I left when I graduated high school and never looked back to stay, only to visit family occasionally⊠why the heck would you go there ?? Lol
@@TD-dq5ux I wanted a slower pace of life to raise my kids. My sister also convinced me to come here bc itâs cheaper. I gave up my housing and everything. Now I pay market rent and looking for a job is slow. Iâve been here a week. Iâm going to try to be strong for a bit longer. Took a leap of faith on this one.
@@TD-dq5ux It is beautiful here and the ppl are nice here compared to my city. Itâs just a little too slow for my liking. I was originally supposed to move to Atlanta. I changed my mind last minute.

So are you moving back to jersey? Iâm from north jersey and came to Atlanta for college. After I graduated, I didnât leave. Atlanta is great for young black professionals. I wish you the best for your move! âšđ
Hello Angel K this is my first time watching your channel and you seem like a nice person. I agree that the cost of living is very expensive but remember you get what you pay for. Iâm the type of person when I meet people Iâm kind to them, but I also leave them where I met them. Youâre young and good friends are hard to come by as you get older you will realize that. I agree with you, the âAâ is not for me and I moved from N.Y. to the DMV area for the opportunities and been here for over 10 years. Good luck in your journey and I wish you well.
Thank you so much! Do you like the dmv better than NY? I was considering the east coast again
Facts on top of facts!!!!! Been here way to long 15 years to be exact! and you are speaking truth with everything you spoke about.Iâm living in a studio 620sq in Chamblee for $1975đł I hate it here now it switched up a few years ago. When I first moved here it was truly southern hospitality and that doesnât exist anymore. I want to also add that the crime here has escalated in the last few years.Iâm leaving soon thereâs nothing but opportunist here looking for a come up. Last but not least Letâs not talk about the traffic and the gun Violence it has really gotten out of hand. I can go on and on for hours just watch the news please but Iâm a leave it at that peace âđŸ
Being from Atlanta the City has changed!!!! When I say changed. I meet people and show my southern hospitality and the are like wow. #ATLein
Iâm from Cali Atlanta prices are nothing like Cali. You paying too much even in Atlanta. I live by Braves Stadium and pay $1900 for 3 bedroom. Where you go there you are. Donât pay attention to what others are doing. You will find your community

I lived here my whole life and what you are saying is very true but what I can say is that there are different types of social groups. Sounds like you met a lot of the "New Atlanta" people lol
This is the 1. You hit the nail on the head! Because there is a âNew Money ATLâ & an âOld Money ATLâ with prominent African Americans in high power / high positions. She is meeting all the WRONG kinds of ppl. Maybe you need to switch up where youâre hanging out at & go to different events

Exactly. Out of the states is looking like a big possibility with these prices
I been in Atlanta since 2006. It has changed for the worse since i moved here. Itâs over crowded so more traffic and the rent prices have skyrocketed. Most people come here to live better with their money. I feel like eventually it will be New York prices in the south đ€Šđœââïž
Iâve been here since 2003. I agree with most of what you said. I moved here for a chance at my dreams. Luckily it did pan out. So Iâll forever love Atlanta for that. Me personally I stay out the way & get my money. But also I will say. MOST & I stress most people in big cities are fake. LA is even worse. But stay the course to chase your dreams. Donât give up & donât let anyone get in your way.
U only speaking facts!!! Iâm in Atlanta and Iâm tired of it! Moving to the west coast next year!!
Iâve been watching you for a little while. As a middle age black woman from the east coast considering relocating from NY, I was interested in getting as much info from Black people and their experiences. I have gained a sense of how it is from watching these videos. You always came across as genuine which I appreciate. I also have family in GA and my daughter and her friends are saying the same thing youâre saying. Iâm going to have to find a different location. I need an all around different better environment and ATL is not it.
Yeah unfortunately itâs just not for me.. i really tried to stick it out but 3 years is more than enough. But Iâm so glad my videos could help you make a decision â€ïž Good luck on your journey! I wish you the best on wherever you decide to move :)
I'm middle aged women...it's sad đ..It's best to find somewhere else..been here 20 years..it something else girl!!!đ

Thank you for the video! ATL IS FULL!
Atlanta is okay, I rather live on the outskirts of it and not directly in Atlanta.
I am 53 yrs old and it is magical and dreams do come true here. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
Atlanta is being out priced because folks moved here and drove the prices high as giraffe coot! 10 yrs ago I knew folks that came here seen how we were living and didn't even go back home to pack. That's why you see all these t-shirts that says "WE FULL" đ„°đđđ
You are spot on, I lived in Atlanta most of my life. Rent got crazy
You speakin big facts!
I hate to break the news to yâall but it ainât just Atlanta prices. Every major hot spot in this country is going up. Those days of $500- $700 rent is over unless you move to the country. People are also realizing that prices back home are higher also. Sadly I believe that eventually lots of people will be priced out of America.
I had a 3 bedroom 2 baths home, w/a garage, deck, and front lawn for 759.00 a month. I moved to GA to be closer to family after my mother passed, and now I am paying 2000 for a damn 1bedrm in Smyrna, GA. I am over it and ready to leave and it has only been 6 months.

I have been in Atlanta for about 17 yrs and have mainly lived in the 30307 zip code area and I can honestly say that it has always been a pleasant experience just not a lot of people that look like me.
I'm a Jersey girl too, I moved to ATL in 2019 strictly for my career. Moving back to NJ is not an option for me either, I totally feel you on that. Atlanta is not for everyone, go where your heart is calling. Everything you said in this video about Atlanta is true! LOL there are a lot of pros too, I think Atlanta is the type of place where you come to be super laser focused on career or job opportunities, otherwise all the bs will irritate you. I can see you in Miami!
Why is NJ not an option?? Just curious. I work in NJ now after living in atl for 7 years

I lived there for 30 years I visited last year and if felt to me that love had been sucked out of the State, I drove around and it was like a ghost town, visited several grocery stores during my stay and all was damn near empty, pass by service station empty all this was after the lockdown.. A City that once was so vibrant and alive have forever lost it shine.
Everyone wants to be a star everywhere. Go to any city that has over 500,000 people and the same thing will be there. Create your plan for success, living and what you want in life and stick to your purpose. What's been going on has always been forthcoming but social media has accelerated it and too many people weren't/aren't ready for it.
You have young people coming up and get exposed to FOMO early, they can't discern from what's real and fake and it deadens social skills for making real connections. The only thing that can fix this is for people that know better make sure they teach this in the home and how to focus on your purpose rather than social media and keeping up with the jones' and being a "star".
I have a three bedroom house. I had it built. I pay less than $800 a month.
One more thing. My wife is in Acting and she ran into similar problems so just like you she has experience and the it seems the best advice whether you leave atlanta or not that you need to find representation as in an agent. And we both keep a regular job to fund our entertainment careers.
Love love your truth thanks for sharing.
The dudes are SO crusty!!!! You ainât never lied !!!!
Girl - I am born and raised in Cali and moved to ATL 4 years ago as well. It's not giving what it was supposed to haev gave, in the words of Rolling Ray. Atlanta has a very big flex culture - especially out at the spots that young folks like you and I would want to go to. But I don't want to be in a section every week or at a bunch with piss poor service. Beyond those things I really struggle to find things to do for young folks like myself. Everything requires money to be spent that I don't want to spend on those types of experiences. I have been out multiple times and I found out there was a shooting the next day. The city is getting very chaotic and the overall vibes for black folks is mixed. People say it's a great place to network and start a business, but I haven't found anyone that I want to network with and haven't seen many businesses flourish. End rant
been here for 2 years and this has been my whole experience.

My friend moved to the ATL a year ago and started a family. She invited me over and I don't like it. I got weird vibes from the people I came in contact with. You have to drag me to go back to the ATL, I will never go back.
Where you from ?? Iâm not from Atlanta jus wondering..
A single person in Atlanta wonât make it more than likely. I actually got married to an ATL native who refuses to move so I will be here indefinitely. Thank God we were able to purchase land 20 minutes from downtown and we are currently building a home.
