  • Back in 1985, The Washington State Department of Transportation drove East on WA SR-542 and recorded video to document the highway. This was part of a project that photographed/videotaped the states highways every couple of years. This video now resides at The Washington State Archives who were kind enough to share it.

Keep the videos coming. This is awesome. It's amazing how much Sunset Dr. in Bellingham changed, and how unchanged some stretches of the Mt. Baker Hwy are.

The contrast is remarkable (between changed and unchanged sections)

The changes along this route over the past 38 years are incredible to say the least. Thanks a million for posting these- I worked for WSDOT for over 29 years and love to see how the highways were back in the day!

"Sign right" of course the sign is on the right. Where else would a sign be?

They're usually on the right, but sometimes signs can be overhead (freeway signs) or on the left (e.g. "Keep off Median").
