    I did this job, including the thermostat, yesterday for the first time in 5 hrs. I did not use a c-clamp when putting the alternator back on the first time and that cost me 30min of frustration trying to line up the holes. Using the c-clamp trick it took 5min. Great videos thanks.

    Thank you so much for your videos!
    I'm a 20 year old college student and your videos helped me save a ton of money. I've never been a car guy, but I knew I didn't want to get an overpriced fix for my car when the water pump blew. Thanks to your easy-to-follow videos, I was able to replace my belt and water pump within a couple days. Thank you for making these videos!

    Thanks for the video. I just did this yesterday with the help of your videos. The most challenging parts were removing the two bolts on the water pump that are not easily visible and putting that alternator back. Cheers!

    NutzAboutBolts, my 1997 Corolla 4A-FE has a small diameter O-Ring (6:36) in the back of the Water Pump.
    I see you didn't use Ultra Cooper Silicone on the O-Ring. Is it good to use it or not?
    It's not easy to install the Water Pump on the 1997.

    I just received the new pump for my 2005 Corolla and all the flanges are the same height, just like you said. But it didn't come with new bolts and when I called the dealer they never heard of this and they don't sell the bolts. I'm confused. What happens if you use the existing longer bolts with the shorter flange? Does it bottom out before it gets tight?

    • @Dalank60
      @Dalank60 Před 8 lety

      I ended up returning O'Reilly pump because the O-ring gasket didn't fit, even after trying another gasket from fel-pro, I ended up buying the Toyota pump and no the dealer did NOT have any replacement bolts and the new Toyota pump also had all the flanges the same height --I used some bolts and washers I bought at O'Reilly in a metric nut, bolt and washer kit. Used 4 6mm washers on each of the shorter bolts and I had to replace 1 of the long bolts that rolled down the driveway. What I should have done is use the aftermarket pump and buy an o'ring gasket from the dealer

  • @alalnajjar2187
    @alalnajjar2187 Před rokem

    powered ratchet vrooom vrooom 2 seconds each bolt. Then torque to specs . However. try to not a powered tool with flat Gaskets that have holes for bolts in them. It will twist them and teat them up.

    I have a 2001 Corolla with 30k miles. Is the water pump something I should still consider replacing preventative just due to age vs miles? Was owned by a elderly person so miles stayed low.

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  Před 3 lety +2

      I would since the gasket is made of rubber and could deteriorate anytime now. But if you want to take the risk, you can wait for the coolant to leak by the water pump.

    So this is actually really hard. The last bolt is just about impossible to reach. Jacking the car and removing the wheel pulling back the wheel well cover helps but still hard. Need the small torque wrench also as the common large version wont fit and wont adjust down lown enough for the 96 and 80 inch pound specs. The new water pumps will need different length 10mm bolts that are not included will have to buy a kit maybe even use washers. The car this guy is working on has way more room than my 06 corolla so expect lots of knuckle scraping and cussing. You can also remove the motor mount, of course support the motor with a jack and a 2×4 then jack up the motor about 1 to 2 inches only, that will make getting that last pump bolt off and everything back on easier.

    I noticed you didn't use any silicon on the gasket?

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  Před 8 lety +10

      not needed, you will create more problems with rtv since there already is a gasket. You can use a little dab to prevent it from falling off of the water pump, but don't over due it or else it'll create a gap between the matting surface and cause a leak.
