The thing abt Alex's River Song, she had chemistry with all 3 doctors... It was so believable that River & Doctor were in love regardless of which face the Doctor wore. Alex is amazing!
I definitely agree with this! Everyone says River and 11 didn't work but I think all faces worked with River. Just shows how great an actress Alex is

I think you also need to rely on the actors for the Doctor to showcase and convey that this is someone theyve seen before. Obviously 11 and River had the most episodes, but I like how 12 made u feel all those old episodes again and the history. Tennant was also rlly impressive. Right when he heard his name, he knew this was someone he could trust

Her story was BRILLIANT. Introducing a pivotal character with her death and we don't even realize how heartbreaking it is until seasons later. Like seriously. That is some epic foreshadowing.
This is why I love going back and rewatching Silence in the Library, especially after watching The Husbands of River Song. Gives the entire episode new meaning, because now you know exactly who she is, and what she means to the Doctor. I also like the bit of reverse foreshadowing she gives Rory at one point. "I know one of these days I'm going to look into his face, and he isn't going to recognize me, and I think it'll kill me."
When Ten says "Who are you?" to River the first time you watch it, you're not even confused, just blank.
When you hear it after learning all about who she is, it breaks your heart.

Yes, but she has a point, he can't handle fragility without mothering it. River points out the biggest issue with the power dynamic between the Doctor and the companions they are fragile creators which is why he always (yes, yes, besides Rose) keeps them at a distance and never treats them as full equals (Donna, the woman has a right to chose her life path).
And then she slaps him :(( This makes me so sad every time :(( Yes, he mustn't spend his regeneration power, but still, that was the gesture of love 🙁❤ Why so sharp River🙁 (but I still love their couple anyway💞)
@@tankgrl1980 He also does this to River, in the Library. River has made her choice and died the way she wanted to. But of course, the Doctor being the Doctor, couldn't let her die and essentially made her become a data ghost in an artificial reality with other dead people. I'm sure she wasn't thrilled with how that turned out.

The Many Husbands of River Song was an amazing episode. It really did justice to River's character and gave us the satisfaction of seeing her with a happy ending. The ending with 11 was beautiful but it wasn't a real goodbye to the alive River. Her episode with 12 is definitely in my top 10 and my favorite Christmas special.
Another thing I love about The Husbands of River Song is that it's the first and only time where River and the Doctor are truly equal. River was a Mary Sue throughout most of her time on the show, constantly presented as being superior to her husband in every capacity, including regeneration ("I'm focussing on a dress size") despite not being a Time Lady. It was nice to see her being the one who was clueless for once and both she and the Doctor got to know each other better than ever before. I hope those 24 years on Darrillium were well spent.

It really is a pity that Capaldi and Kingston only had one episode together. Their chemistry had the potential to even top hers and Smith's.
Maybe they should do an episode about their 24 years on Darrillium. Kind of like Trenzalore where Matt Smith never left the planet until his regeneration. They can't have the 13th Doctor (by which I mean Capaldi because John Hurt is the true 9th Doctor) do any episode with River outside of Darrillium but 24 years is a long time and, knowing this married couple, they'd go looking for trouble whenever they were bored.

Husbands of Riversong is a sweet episode and can get away with its campiness because of how lovely it is in some parts. But there is no excuse for how thick moffat made Riversong in this episode. She should have worked out who he was from the first 5 minutes,
She physically had no memory of him because of the way it worked
Emerald what? She’d never seen the 12th Doctor before yes but she had all her memories of all the other Doctors. The man repeatedly asked her if she knew who he was, made it clear that he was ‘The Doctor’, knew what specific buttons did in the TARDIS, even said to her ‘stop pretending you don’t know who I am....it’s me!’ There were so many clues that should have gave him away and river should have picked up on straight away.
She was in denial.
There's a line where she does ask about how it was even possible he got a new body because he got through all of his regenerations. At that point, since she has seen every regeneration and hasn't known about how he got a lot more to use she wasn't aware it was even possible that any one else could be the doctor. That's more likely to be as to why she didn't see that the 12th doctor was the doctor, since she thought it wasn't possibly and ruled out even considering it.
She didn't consider it because timelords only have 12 bodies and he's the 13th.
Such a great husband and wife team. Or wife and wife... oh, come on, Alex Kingston seemed positively GIDDY at the idea when she found out about Jodie. It's timey-wimey, they can figure it out.
