The fact that Thanos highly respects Tony’s bravery really means something.
Despite the fact that he stabbed Tony through his arc reactor with his armor's own blade. Yeah I get that Thanos in that moment was like "Believe me, I don't enjoy having to do that anymore than you do, but it had to be done." but man that must of have felt 50 times more painful to Tony than having a shield made of vibranium pinned on top of him.
His bravery, yes, but I believe he was mostly talking about his visonary mind. I think Thanos found Tony somewhat similar to him.

Seeing Tony get stabbed really had me shook. I thought he was gonna die long before even entering the theater, so that really got to me. The writers commented that even if they got the gauntlet off, Thanos would have gotten angry and killed them all. He was taking it very easy on all of them.

Thanos used every stone he had against Dr. Strange earlier. As for Thor? We don't know how that fight went down. Hulk lost because he had only one trick, which Thanos could do better. Thanos did not need the power stone to defeat Iron Man, but used it to win faster. When you can rip off your opponent's helmet in one snatch while they can only scratch you, you know you're going to win. But how quickly?

@@cryptictriscuit207 not at all. Thanos didn't "need" to use the power stone to win. Iron Man needed to go all-out to scratch Thanos. Thanos did not use any knee strikes on Iron Man either, and his knee strike ko'd Hulk while a punch to the helmet made Stark bleed and the helmet crack. He wasn't using his deadliest melee attacks.
That's cuz it was to show how powerful Thanos is even without the Stones, he took down one of the strongest avengers.

I don’t know if that’s the whole story because at that point everyone who the stones had killed were already revived. Now maybe Tony would’ve stayed dead because he was going to be killed by the actual snap but I think the hulk snap could still bring him back in theory. Only black widow wasn’t able to be returned because she was given up for the soul stone and its “against the rules” for lack of better way to put it, to sacrifice something for the stone and then use the stone to get it back. Stark developed the tech needed for the “time heist” which was before everyone was back

But for the first time they actually lost and thanos had won and wiped away half of existence. People were shocked cz u don’t normally see the bad guys beat the good guys
A short-lived fight but carried soooo much weight
Infinity War will always be that special film in which the entire audience was watching like it was an event. Cheering for those epic moments and crying in those sad moments. When Tony got stabbed, the entire audience gasped, some shrieked, and one hype fan yelled "Fuck!" in the most desperate and sad tone. We all really thought he was going to die. Can't wait for Endgame to see what happens.

Thanos trying to outright kill Tony was weirdly the ultimate form of respect for him. Everybody else he just incapacitated, he didn’t care about them, they weren’t the goal but he thinks of Tony as a big enough threat he actually needs to die to ensure the goal is achieved (until he gets the next stone when he either just kept his word or now feels strong enough even Tony can’t stop him)
It’s because this version of Thanos was aware of the Avengers and was watching them. He knew Tony was the biggest threat and to know not underestimate him. It almost seems like Thanos has been wanting to fight Tony for a long time. The man who destroyed half of his army when he sent them to NY. Endgame Thanos didn’t know the Avengers that well and did not see Tony as the biggest threat he thought it was thor and he underestimated Tony and lost

I know the general theory is that the one win-state future Strange saw involved Thanos getting the stone.
I'm thinking it's more likely that there was a minute chance Starlord's plan could have worked. Only, when it didn't, Strange saw that Thanos would eventually overcome them and take the stone regardless. Maybe he knew Tony would be one of the only ones to survive the snap on Titan and figured why needlessly have him die when they're gonna lose anyway?
(and/or Tony's survival is essential to whatever ends up happening to reverse the snap?)

The reason why Dr. Strange gave the stone to Thanos is because Iron Man is the one ending the fight in Avengers Endgame

I wonder if we will ever get a villain or character period, as large as life and impactful both on screen and off in terms of captivation and popularity and pure badassery as Thanos. Growing up with these characters on the big screen, a decade long span of almost 20 films that culminated to this, I feel like is impossible to replicate to such a degree. Glad we got to witness it.
It now makes sense why Dr. Strange asked Thanos to spare Tony Stark's life, even though Dr. Strange told Tony beforehand that if it meant sacrificing him to save the Time stone, he would do just that.

I cried my eyes out when I saw this scene. Beautiful and Tragic to see all of the Avengers come together and sacrifice their lives for each other one last time.
In the beginning, Doctor strange said, “If it’s between saving you, (Iron man) the kid, (spiderman) or the time stone, I will not HESITATE to let either one of you die.” Then later on, he gives the time stone to Thanos willingly to spare Iron man’s life. Doctor Strange IS really strange.
Inverted in Endgame. He saved Tony's life only for him to die five years later to save the universe.

Right when Strange stopped Thanos and gave him the time stone, that moment is probably where Scott Lang was with the Pym family on top of the roof with Luis' van setting up the Quantum Realm.
When Strange said he will choose the stone over Tony and Peter he actually did it. He gave the stone not for Tony's life but because of the stone itself and in the end Tony died and the stone is safe

A little slow, though
A small detail that I just noticed. At 2:50 when Dr. Strange is giving the time stone to Thanos, and since Dr. Strange's powers are weak at the moment, he can't use his powers effectively to keep his hands from shaking due to the nerve damage.
I like how Thanos said "all that for a drop of blood" but in Iron Man 2 Ivan Vanko said "if you could make God bleed, people would cease to believe in Him. There will be blood in the water, the sharks will come." Thanos with all the infinity stones representing god. The sharks representing everyone from the marvel universe coming to fight Thanos because they lost faith in his ability to hold his own, fighting for the fate of the entire universe. Thanos lost his true fighting intentions when he simply wanted to destroy the universe and everyone in it. It's such a cool thing to think about when Ivan Vanko made that iconic statement.

I love how tony was so smart even with how he was fighting. He restrains the gauntlet 3 times in that short little fight and he clamps himself to the ground so thanks can’t throw him around. Thanks is just too damn durable though. It ain’t fair.
