  • As part of our Speaker Series, CRWP collaborated with Terry Schwarz, the head of Kent State University’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC), to offer this seminar on urban planning strategies for diverse climate migration situations. Ms. Schwarz delves into her research that explores the crossroads of urban planning, climate change, and human migration. Her presentation covers work undertaken by the CUDC and the University of Buffalo in the “Guide for Scenario Planning for Great Lakes Migration.” This guide utilizes Exploratory Scenario Planning to help cities in the Great Lakes region make land use decisions that are responsive to climate change, plan for changes in population, and develop scenarios for future development and land conservation for green spaces and green infrastructure.

I love how this is not talked about as a hypothetical. This is an inevitability that we are planning for, due to an ignorance to how our current planning has affected the climate and people that live in these places already. There is a realism in this that I enjoy.
The work and planning done here is very hopeful. I am reminded to advocate based on making something new out of hope, not fear. Thank you.

That Rolling Stone map is uniquely bad. Who is in the best position to succeed as a result of green tech, namely solar? Clearly AZ and TX. And yet, the map is completely backwards.
